      LOL. Commander Keen…

    • Also on big special @Steam, if you're a master-race kinda gamer.

  • +7

    Cheers for browser links.
I still can't for the life of me figure out how to reach that for our Aussie store manually :P

    • +9

I, and a lot of others who post here, use Deku Deals. Their site is up to the minute in terms of eshop prices and provide browser links for each region

      • -1

If only their search was more useful. Not being able to show metacritic score whilst filtering by highest discount.. waste of time.

        • Just filter by metacritic score and use your judgement. Scores shouldn't be the only determining factor on whether you get a game and neither should the discount %.

For example, doth Doom 1 and 2 don't have enough reviews to provide a metacritic score on DekuDeals, yet clearly over 100 people here think this is a good deal.

          • @Faro: Yeah but it'd be faster and helpful to have both presented together. Some of us don't have that much time to spend gaming, so we'd rather be gaming than researching. C'mon man, you don't need to naysay all reasonable opinions.

    • +5

I thought I was the only idiot that couldn’t figure it out. 🤪

      • It's literally the most unintuitive website for a huge company I've ever seen.

I don't think you can even search it by itself, people made plugins to search because it's so bad.

You just come here to make negative comments or…?

        • No I just decided to make a joke. Geez you're always on a knife edge with every response in your threads. Here, it's a deal, there's no question about that, have a plus. I forgot to give it that earlier, that's all.

  • +1

Any comments on how these go with the switch on portable? I find the stick to be a bit troublesome for FPS games

    • +1

Enjoyable? It's mouse > gyro > sticks for precision aiming games.

Portable - You could invest in some stick grips to increase the size for better control.
Docked - You can connect/adapt a mouse+keyboard and go stomp people.

      • Usually you have to buy special adapters to use console games with mouse and keyboard because they have no mouse and keyboard control setup. The adapter has to translate mouse movement into thumbstick movement.

And I'm pretty sure these adapters don't exist for Switch though I'be be happy to be proven wrong.

        • Course they exist. If you think about the requirements, all you need is a mouse/keyboard and some sort of adaptor to translate those movements to a Switch controller. I searched before posting and there's heaps of options ranging from $30 adaptors up to $100+ keyboard/mouse setups designed for all consoles.

      • Gyro.. no freaking way. Hate them.

      • Been a while. A looong while. Did Doom 1 and 2 support mouse?

  • +3

I still maintain Doom 3 is great. Not 1 and 2 great, but doesn't deserve all the hate!

    • +2

Yep I agree - it's a good game, just different to the rest of the series. It plays more of a horror shooter.

      • I think the only real problem was with the name of the game. It had the theming of a Doom game but not really any of the gameplay.

        • At the time, little 13 year old me (or whatever age) just saw it as a natural progression of the series. We're all for the retro style now, but back then, it was all about innovation and modernising gameplay and I thought it achieved that pretty well.

I am in the vast minority, though as I hate-hate-hate new Doom. I just found it so dull and got it refunded. I consider that game to be less a part of the series than 3.

      Doom 3 is (profanity) great.

Playing it in VR is awesome.

  • Purchased

  • Can you play it online?

    • +1

Unfortunately not. Not yet anyway. Still a slim chance of a patch, although I'm pretty doubtful after the last patch ironed out every other issue the older games had

  • +1

    Played when I was young.

  • Thanks OP for Doom 3

  • Noice. I had I and II already. They are great on Switch so I grabbed III as well. :)

  • Thanks for the deal! Might get all three. How's Doom 3 performance on portable mode for Switch?

    • I only played the start of Doom 3 in docked mode where there was the occasional drop in frames into the 40s maybe? Handheld mode should be pretty similar, but Digital Foundry on YouTube did a full analysis when it first came out.

  • good deal thx gonna get all three

  • shieeet didn't look like they'd ever go on sale so bought 1 & 2 like 3 weeks ago.

    • +1

Come on bruh, even Nintendo first party titles go as high as 33% on sale. These games will go as high as 80%!

  • What a beauty, cheers for the direct links!

  • Awesome. Been waiting for these to go on sale.

  • Similar price on the PSN store. I grabbed them and loving it. Some of the later stages in chapters 3 and 4 (Doom 1) are brutal.

  • With the recent updates to D1 & D2 they're now great. They even support a curated list of community created WAD add-ons.

  • +2

Great ports of great games, as you'd expect considering their age.

No longer have to do that Bethesda.net bullshit, and they've added a few different WADs which is very nice. I got the set on PS4 from a buddy the other day (they got the Doom collection from EB and already had the digi versions of 1,2,3) and outside of the trophies for beating 1 and 2 in co-op on nightmare, I've platinum'd them, and can say the Switch version runs just as good as the big boy consoles. Again, old ass game, but they have seriously (profanity) some ports in the past, and it's not the case here. Also the beloved Panic Button did Doom 3's Switch port and it is also quite great, though I only got like 2 hours in before going back to other stuff.

  • +1

Still waiting on a decent switch console deal before I can get onto these awesome deals. Why has there been no decent sales lately? Can't pull the trigger on RRP, just feels wrong.

    • +1

you can still buy the games before getting a console im pretty sure

      • +1

Only if you've set up an account on someone else's Switch which can later be transfered to your future console

  • thanks bud! bought all three

  • is Doom 1 - Doom - for sale ???

  • yay!!

  • +3

heads up its also discounted on the XBOX console as well via the Xbox store.

  • How do I type IDDQD?!

never really played the Doom games before.. these are co-op? might be good with the gf. I read here that 3 seems to be the best? can I buy just that and still enjoy story wise/playing co-op? thanks

    • My personal opinion is the original Doom is the best (I only played all 3 for the first time when they launched on Switch). Doom 3 has no multiplayer in the modern ports unfortunately, but the original two do for up to 4 players split-screen.

And honestly, due to the simplicity of the controls, the original Doom is a great first FPS for people who may not be good with dual analog controls.

  • Picked up Doom 3 - I tried to play the demo when it launched, but my PC at the time wasn't quite up to it. Looking forward to trying it out on some hardware that will handle it.

    • +1

Still crazy to me that a game that made PCs struggle back then now run at 60fps with enhanced elements on a handheld device

      • 15+ years will do that. To put it's release in perspective on a time line, Doom 3 (2004) released closer to Doom 1's ship date (1993 - 11 years gap) than compared to today's date.

The BFG editions obviously newer, but it wasn't a huge overhaul or remake like many newer re-releases get.

        • +1

          Still nutty to me!

          • @Faro: Yeah I’m a sense. I’m more amazed at how long ago Doom 3 came out. Time flies :p

  • +2

Same price on Xbox One. PS4 full price. Steam more expensive than the Switch and Xbox sale.

  • Doom is also on sale on steam!

  • Are there physical copies for these?

    • +1

Nope. Xbox One and PS4 have a Doom Collection that has Doom (2016) on disc plus a code for the other 3 games, but that's about it

  • Thanks OP. Purchased. Loved 1 and 2 when I was younger.

This article with video is really interesting about DOOM not actually being 3D.
1993's 'Doom' Wasn't the 3D Game We Think It Was

  • Wish I had stocked up on more eshop cards now!

  • Wooooo. Finally gonna grab them!

  • How on earth is this almost 700Mb when I have it in a box on 4x1.44Mb floppies?

Also, this prompted me to look through my sorted backups folder and I've got my original save files from Doom3 - think I can port them to switch? :D

    • Higher resolution and frame rate than the original version, but other than that I have no idea why it's so much bigger. Did the original version have multiplayer?

Also no chance of porting over a save file unless you've hacked your switch. Even then not sure if it's possible

      • probably all the emulator baggage.

    • I think the majority of the space is taken up by a pointless intro/hype video. Waste of space if you ask me.

    • Likely the intro videos and the music being captured from an older sound card into mp3 (or whatever codec the switch uses) and the switch just playing it back, rather than it emulating the old sound device.

Homebrew emulators for consoles like vita do the same, but even the flac versions from http://sc55.duke4.net/games.php# are well under 800mb.

  • Is Doom 1 or 2 better for just casual mucking around in docked mode? Both good graphics???

    • +1

Both terrible graphics by today's standards tbh, but I love them. Again, I only first played them a couple months ago.

Would give the nod to Doom 1 though. Played both with mates and we found 2 to be more frustrating as it had more low-light areas that we tended to get lost in.

  • Thanks O.P. - got the triple.

  • With my coins I got it for around $1 each. Thanks op!

Wouldn’t have noticed the sale without your help.

  • Nice, I had some gold coins which I didn't know about so I didn't have to pay a cent!
Now what do the silver coins do?…

    • Afaik, discounts of 3ds and Wii U games occasionally and that's about it

  • Nice! Thanks for informing me. I picked up the first one after the 60fps patch, nearly finished it, and was going to wait for a sale before picking up the second one… I guess that's now :)

    Brings back memories…
I can remember buying a PC magazine way back then with 2x 3.5 inch floppies on the cover for a Shareware demo of a new game called Doom.
I had just recently bought an intel 486SX (not DX, as i couldn't justify the extra cost). I was keen to try out my new VESA local Bus Cirrus logic GfX card with my non-interlaced 14" or 15" monitor (Can't remember which).
Anyway, I was absolutely amazed by the game at the time. I remember spending an big wad of cash back then for a Creative labs multimedia upgrade kit with a superfast 2x CD-ROM and and Soundblaster 16 sound card (AWE64 came later). I was well impressed with the MIDI on Doom at the time. I also remember upgrading from 4MB to 8MB of RAM and getting a big boost in frame rate.

  • Any stores got a 10% off the Nintendo eshop gift cards on now or coming up? Been very quiet on that one since Christmas and been double checking at Coles, Woolies, Big W, Target, JB etc.

    • Those sales only tend to happen once or twice a year usually. Was just very convenient that every store had the sale consecutively late last year

  • Can I purchase this and specify not to be automatically downloaded into my Switch? Thanks.

  • Thanks, purchased all three. This now must be about the 5th time I have purchased Doom and Doom 2 on different platforms! Wish I still had my old big box PC copies though…. they are worth quite a bit nowadays.

  • Should also note that the latest Doom is now 50% off as well ($30)

    • It's actually $39.95. still a deal I guess

  • Bought D3, while I still love the "house of horrors - jump out of the shadows" type gameplay, I'm reminded that I never really liked the 'feel' of the guns. Does anyone else get that feeling? There's just something off with just about them (at least the few that you use near the first parts of the game).
