    Was $3,600.00 98% off

Meh it's regularly on sale at around this deal price, if not cheaper.

lol. Good timing. Was just about to drop 3.6k this afternoon to backup some images of my pear tree.

    lifetime of the company*

    • +4

      Some are shorter than others.

    Anyone remember crashplan ?

    • Yes.. I’ve only just been transitioned on to the discounted business account. I’ll probably move to something else when the discount ends.

Fade to black - 6 months later… “Sorry to inform you but Degoo has ceased to operate. Please feel free to check out Regoo for all your data storage needs currently 99% off for previous Degoo customers - $90.99 today only, lifetime membership!”

      But they're swedish!

They'll send you all your bits back in a flatpack box, you just need to re-assemble them back into files.

Useless service for fools believing in Ponzi style arrangements.

Usenet is five bucks a month and truly unlimited space, up and down speed with a lifetime from day of upload of over 10 years. It will never disappear.

    • +1

Can you have private data on Usenet?

      • +4

There's plenty of private data on usenet, available to the public

      • +2

No. But dumbest idea ever. His idea is to encrypt it all with the hope that:
        1. Nobody ever finds the secret because you could never change it, or if a keylogger gets you
        2. If there's a weakness in the encryption algorithm, it should be easy to brute force
        3. Over time it'll become easier to brute force with the ever increasing compute power
        4. No MFA
So good luck removing your content from Usenet if any of the above happens

My guess is their business is dying so they are trying to milk as much money before they turn off their servers…

  • Wow $3600 For 10TB? I provision my staff with 4TB of One Drive space and they don't even use it or value it.

    • +1

Did you tell them that they can use it for personal data? 4Tb could be too much for work related documents.

  • I am wary of lifetime plans. The company lasts only as it is commercially viable, requiring ongoing cash flow, meaning ongoing fees. One off fee lasts only a finite time…

    • You'd prefer a fee to last an infinite time? Well, it works for the Hindus.
