Yes, fear is the best tool to control people ;)

I guess you don't know what the smartraveller site is for then…

        • +1

Take that site with a grain of salt. They list countries popular with Australian holiday makers such as Thailand, Indonesia, France and Belgium as "exercise high degree of caution" as well.

          • -1

@jayz: They also list the reason for why you should exercise caution.

            • +1

@jv: The colour system is better to go by than description. All yellow countries have a similar level of accumulated risk. So regardless of reason the risk is the same. E.g. A high likelihood of petty crime is yellow, but a highly remote chance of terrorism is also yellow.

Your troll is valid, but raises an interesting point on risk analysis.

You might need to clarify to JV that you don't mean skin colour.

            • @jv: Just assume that an organized tour isn't going to send you for a walk through an unmarked minefield.

                Just assume

Never assume. Because when you assume, you make an ’ass’ out of ‘u’ & ‘me’.

          • @jayz: mainly due to affordability…

            • @Kas: Are you saying France and Belgium are affordable compared to Thailand and Indonesia?

This is the UK travel advice

      • International terrorists have staged attacks in the UK. Extreme right-wing ideology and the status of Northern Ireland both contribute to the threat. Always be alert to terrorism. Take official warnings seriously.
      • Violent clashes occur as a result of civil unrest. Tensions can rise in Northern Ireland from April to August. Take extra care in the weeks leading up to 12 July every year. Avoid all protests.
      • Petty crime occurs. Beware of pickpockets in tourist areas, at restaurants and bars, and on transport. Take care when using ATMS and credit cards.
      • Drink spiking happens. Don't accept drinks from strangers. Be aware of knife-related crime.
      • Severe weather can disrupt transport. Monitor local weather reports.

Sri Lanka is a clean and a beautiful destination. People are friendly towards tourists as it's a very big industry in SL. Just use common sense as a tourist and you will be ok ,just like any other tourist destination.

Sri Lanka is a clean and a beautiful destination.

And 259 innocent people were killed there less than a year ago in the bombings.

      • You forgot:

Advice Levels: Exercise normal safety precautions

    • Perfect, less tourists :)

    • Stay in Frankston then, JV

    • What other Governments' travel advisories say about us……..

Terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Australia. Australia’s current national terrorism threat level is ‘probable’ (see the Australian national terrorism threat advisory system. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. You should be vigilant and take sensible precautions.

Australia is prone to seasonal natural disasters including tropical cyclones, flash flooding, dust storms and bushfires (forest fires).

      https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/australia

      AND

There have been six successful terrorist attacks and over a dozen disrupted plots in recent years. The Australian government is concerned about the potential for future attacks.
U.S. citizens in Australia should remain vigilant with regard to their personal security and exercise caution.

demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. You should avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible and >be careful within the vicinity of any demonstrations.

you should be aware that robberies, burglaries, assault, and auto theft are common in Australia’s larger cities.
Foreign visitors in popular tourist areas are targets for pickpockets, purse-snatchers, and petty thieves.

Be careful when visiting bars or clubs in the entertainment areas of major cities, as “bar brawls” and other assaults sometimes occur. Also, watch out for drink spiking when consuming alcohol with unfamiliar people.

    • Barring the minefields, ALL of this is true about Australia and pretty much every other country.

  • What are the dates of this tour?

How much is this tour usually?

The quoted cost does not cover entrance to tourist sites, safari jeep fee, activity fee, monuments entrance fee, camera fee. Any idea how much these would add up to?

I note from the itinerary that:
    - Day 1 is arrive and transfer to hotel
    - Day 7 is transfer to the airport (4 hours)
    So 5 days of activities.

    • Tour can be customized depending on your requirements and flight schedule. The entrance and other charges varies on each site please send us a inquiry from our web site so that we can provide all the required information.

      • +1

So, based on the itinerary quoted on your linked site, how much is this tour usually?

I'm trying to determine if this is a bona-fide deal or just an advertisement.

        • The average cost of this tour is AUD 1500 for two after September 2020.
This tour showing in the advertisement is with a seasonal and special discount.

          • +2

            @Infinitylanka: Thanks.
And the costs for entrance to tourist sites, safari jeep fee, activity fee, monuments entrance fee, camera fee, related to the itinerary on your linked site?

I'm trying to determine the total cost to partake in the full tour (excluding meal costs etc.).

            • -7

@GG57: Please send us your email ID for us to share the detailed costs. The camera fee will only apply if you use professional camera, not regular one or mobile phone.

              • +3

@Infinitylanka: Why can't you post them here for the larger audience to consider?
You have a detailed itinerary, and a list of inclusions / exclusions. Some of those exclusions would appear to be almost mandatory costs if one wants to experience all of the itinerary components.

                • @GG57: Please note the ticket costs vari depending on number of packs and the age group. You can also avail special discounts for safaris depending on number of travelers, we are not showing the mentioned costs due to these reasons.

                  • @Infinitylanka: Ok.
Are you able to list the hotels that the tour will use?

I'm trying to justify the costs of this tour versus booking accommodation and a driver myself.

  • +1

Sri Lanka is a great tourist destination, but I can't see the bargain in this particular travel deal.
    What is the normal price?
    Why is this a bargain?

I am happy to revoke my neg if the discount in this deal can be shown.

    PS

This tour operator has impressive TripAdvisor reviews
    https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293962-d18977…

    • Please check the prices of a similar tour done by other tour operators.
Once you compare the prices you can see clearly our discount.
      Thanks

      • I have looked at some other sites in comparison; most of those nominate the hotels that will be used.
Are you able to do that for comparison purposes?

        • We have up dated Hotel details in our web site, please check the deal again.

          • @Infinitylanka: Thanks.
You have mentioned in other comments that this tour includes a 'seasonal discount'. I can't find anything on the linked site in regard to specific dates or months.
What are the months or dates that this price would apply for?

            • @GG57: As mentioned in the advertisement the offer valid for the bookings between Feb 2020 to 30-Sep-2020.
We don't provide this rate for the tours after 31-October-2020.

      • +1

Yeah but that's what you need to tell us right? How much are we gonna save if we choose you. like a comparison of some sort otherwise its just a business advertisement.
