    Payed to be ripped off.

Believers in neoliberal economic theory say that this is cheaper than the Government providing it.

    • +1

The government provides my power. There is no choice in the matter.

    • Can we assume you're Amish then?

    • How are power prices in WA?

  • Need to also check the discounted rates for both electricity and gas.

  • how to get cheap electricity rate!?

  • +6

For people in NSW, I would definitely recommend using the NSW Gov energy comparison tool it is a lot easier than when I tried to use it before as now all you need to do is upload a copy of your e-bill and they'll take care of the rest.

  • Will existing EnergyAustralia customers who have one product(let's say gas) with EnergyAustralia be eligible for Cashback when requesting to connect another product(electricity) to their existing premises?

with there recent cuts to solar FIT, i would suggest everyone carefully review their bills before moving to EA, for QLD ppl AGL is the best option 17c FIT

    • Thanks. I've been meaning to go through the arduous process of calculating all providers again since these guys abruptly lowered FIT from 16c to 11c.

But i've always wondered, and if anyone can answer this… If my bill ends up in credit (resulting from FIT), does that automatically classify as "pay on time" and thus recieve the POT discount and an even bigger credit into account??

      • +1

        Yes.

    • ok… so interestingly, using the old manual ozbargain calculator and updating all the rates, Energy Australia still comes out on top for me over AGL because of the usage discount:

so how long do I have to stay with them to be eligible for the cashback?

    • Says up to 180 days to confirm, so assume min. 6 months

  • Alinta gave me $100 credit in first bill

    • How to get $100 credit?

    • Alinta doesn't seem to have such offer anymore. Also, their rates are higher than energy australia for multinet

  • i hate these energy companies, the way they operate. say my gas discount is finishing in May, if i call up the provider asking for the same discount for another year, they wouldn't offer it. what you need to do is to port to another provider, then this provider will call you to retain you and offer the discount you originally asked but rejected.

    • Don't swap, but tell them you did. And then ask for retention team. Usually give you the deal.

      • if you don't swap, you beg them for the same discount, if you swap they beg you and give you a better discount.

Please be aware that Energy Australia is now owned by China Light and Power. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EnergyAustralia

I would highly recommend you do your research and support one of the energy retailers based in Australia/NZ. More details here: https://www.canstarblue.com.au/electricity/which-energy-comp…

    • End of the day, they employ australians to run their assets like power plants.

The other companies in the article are just retailers. Call centre and office people who buy low and sell higher to you. They can be outsourced so easily in the future.

180 days is plenty of time for Energy Aus to claw that money back and some… check out supply and usage rates before signing up

    • +1

180 days is a worst case scenario, i think it most cases you get it in like 60.

      • From past experience, there is no minimum connection period requirement. Even if you cancel before the cashback is paid, you will still receive it (assumption being same T&Cs apply).

    • Cashback is not registered by Cashrewards, so I only hope they will honour the cashback without lodging the claim request. Just need to keep track of time when to expect to get one.

  • Recently hit $800 a quarter for my energy bills in Sydney. Currently with Energy Australia No frills plan. $0.253/kWh inc GST, $0.781cents/supply charge per day inc GST. Anyone got better rates than those? Can’t seem to find better…

  • just checked, i only signed up GAS, electric rates they are offering is much higher than my current provider momentum energy, and will just take less than a year to get all $110 back to their pocket again.. i will stick with my current electric provider, but moved my gas with them

  • How long is this offer valid for?

  • Damn sad. Signed up about 23 days ago. Account hasn't been activated and running:(

    • Same. Signed up for their previous deal for $150 back. Hang on while I go and set two $20 notes on fire

  • Why is this not available for solar plans?

  • Is this available for small businesses?

  • I am in south Australia and we pay a flat 44 cents per kWh. So even with 20 per cent off it is still 36 cents per kWh. We don't have the peak off peak meters like other states so my electricity is often 700 a quarter in winter and up to 1000 a quarter in summer. We are 1 child household and we do watch our usage. Think yourself lucky in NSW where your rates are so much lower.

    • I'm with Origin on their Solar Boost plan. I pay 36.1c/kWh (summer, after discounts, inc GST) and get 18c/kWh back on exported solar power. EA's offer is okay at best.

  • Won't ever go back EA. They are useless!!

  • "Cashback is not available on solar electricity plans."

    This is an instant fail.

And 180 days for the cashback to be confirmed? Half a year! They're kidding, right?

  • I signed up using this deal four months ago, my electricity changed to EA in February but still cashback is not approved.

There is no way you can report it as system doesn't allow me to report until expected date of June 🤔

So process is very slow by CR.

  • Hi, just to give you some heads up. Read carefully about the TnC before signing up.
I was with EA for about 3 years until I found that I have been ripped off for so long and happy made a move afterwards.

One thing for sure is always to compare against the total cost per month - not the discount that you will be getting.
Normally you will get bites after the honeymoon periods have been passed and they start clawing their money back.

    • every provider will be the same for you if you stay on the same contract for 3 years, you need to churn every year to get the discounts.

  • +1

    Not available on solar plans.

Be careful with EA, they can change their fixed rates at any time and don't even provide the required written notification. Also their chat agents refer to random "The electrify law" but refuse to provide details of which piece of legislation they are using as an excuse.

  • I signed up still not showing up on cr any have samething? I have made a claim

  • I have signed up on 20-Feb and no sign of cashrewards transaction tracking.
Just spoke to EA and they say the energy provider conversion will take up to 90 days!

  • Same here. No tracking in Cashrewards. Electricity account transfer is already completed (last bill with previous provider received).
Took all screenshots of signup steps as precaution.
