Videocamera/Camcorder & external mic for multipurpose use - Full setup tips appreciated

Hey OZb's,
I'm looking for a cheap 4k camera that I can mount on a tripod with long battery life and possibly external mic input. Anyone have any experience/advise/recommendations regarding the cheap Ebay options such as:

Need to be able to record an hour without batter/memory card stop. Also interested in an external mic or a set of wireless mic's for group presentations. I'd also appreciate recommendations for video editing and capture on PC. The Windows 10 Camera App seems pretty ordinary.
I'm hoping to spend around $500 all up. I have a tripod or two and mic stands already.
TY!

  • PANASONIC Lumix FZ80 or an older Sony A6300.

    • the Panasonic does not have an external mic input. The Sony seems to be quite a bit more that $500

  • Go down the youtube rabbit hole. A favourite subject of many youtube contributors is their setups and comparisons between different cameras and mics. It's not hard to record decent 4k video. Even a lot of phones do a decent job. Good sound quality though is a challenge. I sometimes use one of these Zoom H1N and sync it up in post if I'm not happy with the sound quality from the cameras mic.

  • This may be a good mic option? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/536417 depending on where the people are.

The RODE wireless go is a good little portable wireless mic, but it's like $250.

For video editing, probably look at DaVinci Resolve, which can be free, however you may need to get the paid version for 4K.

You mention memory card recording then also PC capture. I think they would be 2 different things: if you record to memory card, then just get the video frile from the card afterwards. Otherwise, if you want to capture it directly to your PC, you would either need a camera which has a USB webcam function, or you would need to output HDMI from the camera to a HDMI capture card in your PC. If you do the latter, then the capture card would perhaps come with some software, or check out OBS.

I think you'll be hard pressed to do this well for $500.
