  • Anyone have any sources to see how Samsung's reliability/build quality is?

    • +1

We have found them to be better than most, We have been stocking Samsung notebooks since they relaunched back into Australia 2 years ago. The return rate is relatively low and is much lower than say HP as a percentage. I have not read any studies on overall returns and failure rates. Would be interested to see any reports if anybody has any.

      • much lower than say HP as a percentage

        …well that's not saying much :P

        What about compared to Asus/toshiba?

        • +13

From what I have seen, Our return rate is as follows:
from the least returned being first, to the lowest having the highest return rate
This is as a percentage, not as a number. Its over the last 3 years, it does not include the last 6 months. This is just as an indication from sales crossed with our supplier returns. This again is from the models we have sold.

          1)Asus
          2)Toshiba
          3)Samsung
          4)Acer
          5)Lenovo
          6)MSI
          6)Apple
          7)HP
          8)Compaq

Not much humour around OzB nowadays, fair comment & question IMHO!

        • Msi and Apple are both rated 6, are they the same or is this an insiders hint that Msi are making Apple hardware? ;)

        • To be fair, we dont really have enough data on Apple and MSI,
the top 6 are really very close, only HP and Compaq stand out with failure rates.

      • HI, MLN
any price on Samsung SF311, similar specs but 13' display. I would like to buy one if the price is right. thanks in advance.

    10 out of 10 o.O

For $699 at WOW Sight and Sound the Samsung RC520-A06AU is a great basic notebook with a competitive price tag. The storage is good, the processor is great, and it's not bad looking either.

    price looks pretty good
    and with no surcharge!

  • This looks really good spec/price, but I don't understand why every manufacturer (except some Lenovo's) think that we all like to type on calculator buttons.

A great buy if you don't mind the new island or calculator keyboard style!

MLN, are there any traditional style keyboards in units similar to this? BTW, thanks for posting your return by manufacturer, very helpful.

    • Hi giggles,
I think it doesnt really matter, whats important is what you like.
We have offers all the time on different machines.

    "Unbelievable 8.5 Hour** Battery
    Amazing 8.5 hours battery*"

Well which one is it? Unbelievable or Amazing?

    • +1

      Unbelievably amazing? Amazingly unbelievable?

      • +2

        Unamazingly believable?

        • Need more superlatives to describe the battery life!

    • straight from Samsung, so I guess its both
      :)

  • is it possible to use WinXP on this instead of Windows 7?

    • No, but you can use W 3.11

      • hahahahahaa, i used to be running a 386 with w3.1
good times. DOS became my best friend when windows was still only a hybrid shell.

    • Not recommended at all,
      New machines will have problems,
Win 7 pro has XP mode, so you can purchased Win 7 pro upgrade and run any XP program you need in XP mode.

    • Feeling nostalgic for y2001 all over again?
