I already done this with purchased VDSL2+ modem router V1200.

    • thanks! will update my post

  • Does anyone have experience with these mesh routers?

    • -6

      Lots of people

Its in the middle range between MW3 and MW6.

The main node comes with 2 Gigabit Port, its for ensure the up/down link speeds.

But the rest of two nodes are fast Ethernet.

This device is enough for home user, coverage up to 300sqm2. Lower price compare with MW6 and better specification than MW3. Wireless signal stable and strong with no dead spot.

      • I was considering getting a Google Wifi setup, but this is much cheaper. I will be connecting a hub out of it via ethernet for all my wired needs, and this would just cater for wifi through the house. I'm more interested in if it does anything to ensure uptime/auto choosing freq/security patches etc etc

  • +1

    Omg now the 3, 5 or 6.

    So many to choose from.

  • I already have MW6 but need more coverage, would I be able to use these in the same network?

    • +1

I believe so. People have mixed MW3 and MW6 together before and theire FAQ (https://www.tendacn.com/au/faq/3115.html) confirms that.

    • yes i had 2x MW6 and 3x MW3 in my network making it a 5 point mesh system

  • Looking at either this or MW6. Does anyone know if these support ethernet backhaul or would the nodes only work with just one connected via ethernet? I've only found wording that suggests it would work , but it's still kind of ambiguous

    • +1

Found several references that it is supported.

Tenda confirms Ethernet backhaul is supported. You first need to get all nodes connected via wireless, then connect the desired nodes via Ethernet.

"Ethernet Backhaul" mentioned in MW3 page

FAQ: Tenda MW5s-How to set wired backhaul connection

      MW6 reviewed (including backhaul)
      https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/33…

THeir docs are not that consistent but I would think MW6 can do all what MW3/5 can. hope this helps.

      • Awesome, thank you!

Yeah I found some of these too, but then I've also seen other reviews stating it didn't support the feature - hah!

The first link seems to really confirm everything though, so thank you for all that!

    • How do I tell if its connected by Ethernet or wifi?

      • Check a node's Connection Quality. You'd see <...> if it's wired, signal bars if Wireless.

        • Thanks. I see that symbol on my main node. I think backhaul might not work for me because I'm using them in "Bridge" mode. So my primary Tenda isn't doing the routing, its just providing wifi.

  • I will wait for MW6 or MW3. thanks
