Is There a Silent PS4 Controller?

Are there any PS4 controllers that don't make much noise when mashing the buttons?

I usually play late at night and it keeps the wife up sometimes, so i'm after something that makes less noise than the Dualshock 4 controller.

You play Playstation in bed with your wife?

      He's living the dream.

    • Nope,in the lounge room but it's next to the bedroom.

  • Ear plugs? They're cheaper too.

So he can't hear the wife? That's harsh.. ;)

    • We have a 9 month old baby so this isn't an option.

Move the PS4 to a different room where there is a TV. Pretty simple.

    • ^ logic fails.

      • How so? It's clear that the TV/Controller is too close to the bedroom.

Perfectly logical statement, regardless of your needless snarky comment.

  • I like how everyone is assuming just because he's married that he must own a house. Don't know his age but I know that it will be almost impossible for my generation without inheriting one, my husband and I only have a room in a share house.

"Is There a Silent Good PS4 Controller?"

No, best you can do is get a custom xbox style PS4 controller.

    • Do you have a link to any?

Literally no-one said this. You seem to be on edge today with a few ranting posts. Go walk it off.

OP: Maybe one of the Scuf controllers with rear buttons might suit. Pricey though.

      • Thanks, I would probably get one of those if i knew it would definately be quieter. I've had a look and couldn't find any info regarding the button noise.

Lol room in a share house? Maybe try working?

  • I have the Nacon Revolution Unlimited for my PS4, and can confirm it’s only about 5% quieter that a standard DualShock.

    • Cheers, I was looking at one of those earlier. Now I know I can rule that out.

You could try to mod it yourself. I'd buy a secondhand "for parts" condition controller and test it out.

There's videos all over the place on how to take them apart, probably even someone else has modded them for noise already.

I was curious so I tried mashing buttons on the controllers I have:

PS4 is loud and quite "clacky".

Xbox One Elite is much lower in pitch, much less annoying than clack.

Xbox One Elite 2 is higher pitched, quite different.

Nintendo Pro controller is clacky but less so than PS4.

Steam controller is half way to clacky with a little ring to it.

    Not that this helps much.

Felt tape around the edges of the thumbsticks (to stop the sound when you slam thumbsticks on the sides)

Fill the empty space inside the controller with foam or so kind of dense material (watch out for the dual shock motors)

Remove individual buttons and fill insides of buttons with epoxy to increase weight and remove empty space

Enclosed wooden box with sound insulation inside on all walls and 2 holes on one side. Put controller inside and arms through the holes and use the controller from inside the box

Move playstation to a different room

Get wifey to play PS with you

    Get new wifey

  • You could always purchase an item like this and use a quiet keyboard and mouse.

I understand you may prefer using a controller but this would only need to be used when your wife goes to sleep.

What sort of games do you play? this could also be a consideration in looking at your options.

    • Thanks for the suggestion but i would like a controller. ATM i'm mainly playing NBA 2K20 and COD.

Get a blanket and cover/wrap your arms & controller with it. It will dampen the sound.
It will look … funny … like you are doing other business and you might have to give some explanations to wifey if she sees you like that but worth it.
