Great sound. But I've had issues with it suddenly starting to play music from an unknown source, as if a neighbour managed to pair with it despite it not having enter pairing mode and having been connected to my own source the whole time. It seemed others have had this too when I looked into it.
Aliens.
Is it playing clearly or just a hint of other music (ie only audible when nothing else is playing)? Likely that it's picking up a radio frequency if it's not clear (I had the same with an old set of speakers). Plenty of others.
Loud, clear, but with interrupted reception, like Bluetooth from too big a distance.
Wrap the speaker (the one with the controls) in tin foil and don't forget to change your Wi-Fi password and reinstall your OS's :-P
@alvian: Will do. Currently doing a military standard wipe off my HDD. You forgot to tell me to turn my modem on and off.
@Make it so: Turn your modem on and then off, and leave it off for best security :-)
@alvian: Also, remember to wear a tinfoil hat in case its your mind thats been hacked!! JK.
@ccarwyn: Only a joke for so long:
Big Brother is listening…
Big brother is playing rather, you're listening for a change
Mind my stupidity. Are these good to put next to a soniq tv with terrible speakers?
Even the cheapest one of the bunch would be a great upgrade to cheap TV audio. Though I don't think you want to spend more than $200 for a cheap TV audio.
I bought the R1700BT on Black Friday for my 2009 Samsung TV and it's great at its job.
What's your opinion on the boominess of this speaker with your samsung tv/movies. Do you find it annoying , especially when they boom with a male speaking or you like them. Also if you disagree that they're boomy at all that would be interesting to hear
Bass is decent, treble is pretty good though. Voice and music is clear so you don't get that boomy feel. I'm no audiophile but it's very good for music and non action movie.
I use Logitech G560 for my PC and comparing it to the R1700DB it's a lot more suitable for gaming and action movie. Quite room shaking bass but still clear enough treble.
@Bigboomboom: So G560 has more bass and more better for gaming/movies ?
@GameBunny: Yes, G560 is a really good PC Speaker, especially for gaming. It doesn't have Optical though, only 3.5mm jack and USB so I don't recommend it for TV.
If the TV has an audio out (RCA/Coaxial/Optical for the R1280DB or RCA for the R1700BT) they'd be perfect.
You would want to connect by optical, because otherwise you may not get sound from an HDMI source. That is my experience.
If you're connecting by optical, surely you're getting sound from an optical source, not from an HDMI source?
No - optical covers all input sources. But I found that when my blu ray player, my TV would not output analogue audio line-out, only optical.
@Make it so: Possibly a setting in your TV's options?
@johnno07: I had the same problem and did look int settings of the TV. Nothing can get any HDMI source to play on the RCA analog audio output. Only TV source will have audio output. The TV is rather old with only analog output.
@johnno07: Checked all that out, but no. Ended up buying a little USB powered box which converts optical to analogue. Works great.
No r1850db :( looking for the Bluetooth, optical in and subwoofer out.
R1850DB is $189 @ Edifier AU (Free shipping to NSW & SA only).
Looking to add speakers to my TV - does anyone know if I'd be better off with a 2.1 soundbar system or the S350DB for a TV? Are there any advantages that I would have with a sound bar vs the S350DB?
I'm looking at the $300 price range, and something that would give me a good amount of bass.
I have the s1000db and have them set up beside my tv. I use them mainly for music but double as tv speakers via optical.
They sound much better than the built in speakers but occasionally the sound drops out of sync (may be my tv rather than the speakers). If you connect via optical you will need to control volume with the speaker remote - which is kind of annoying. If you have to a tv that supports HDMI CEC I think a soundbar setup will be a lot more convenient. IE: powers up with your tv & controlled with your tv remote.
How would these compare to my micca mb42x? I'm no audiophile but I do like hearing good quality sound.
Can anyone tell me how much R1700BT is better than R1280DB in terms of sound quality?
THE 1700bt HAS 3/4 inch tweeters instead of 1inch which is more regular when you want full range tweeters. to my ears the 1700bt has 'thin' treble, that is it sounds a bit tinny, BUT it can produce higher frequencies than the 1280. Neither are perfect for treble. It's hard to say what is best. I know a friend described m y 1700bt as sounding cheap due to the thin treble, but you don't get people saying that about the 1280. It's really hard to say
Do any of these speakers have a phono input for use with a record player?
Doubt it.
You would likely need a phono pre-amp. Google it. Can get them for around $50 for a decent entry level one. This converts the record player (phono) output into a regular line-level signal, which can then go to an amp or speaker.
so do you leave these on 24/7 or can you get them to turn on with the tv?
R1280DB is good. I use them as my main PC Speakers mainly for media consumption - can't complain at all. Have them sitting flat on my desk due to space
Does lying them horizontal affect the sound quality at all? Just ordered a pair and I reckon I'll have to do the same…
I cant really tell the difference. I have tried that.
Are any of these going to make a difference with a good DAC inbetween my input streams?
awesome might grab a pair for the shed.
Anyone know if similar or other good speakers can be purchased without the bluetooth, (speakers only)
https://www.edifier.com/au/en/speakers/studio-1280t-2.0-powe…
These are essentially the same as the R1280DB but without bluetooth.
Would these be OK for permanent external use? Want to wall mount them under backyard pergola
Sonos One / Play:1 claim to be humidity proof (so you can use them in bathrooms away from direct contact with water).
Got the R1700BT in brown. Gotta give my ears break from the headphones I have been using with my PC for many years. 🙂
I currently have Logitech X-530 speakers for my PC, though I currently only use the side two speakers and the subwoofer because of space. Would the Edifier 1280DB be a significant upgrade over these?
Looks like the Edifier R1700BT has been removed from the listing. Glad I bought mine yesterday.
Back in stock again.
Weird! Don't know why they removed them yesterday to only relist them again today.
Just checked now. R1700BT is showing as out-of-stock again.
@thebadmachine: Yep out of stock on the R1700BT
Does Wireless 1 always take for ages before they ship items? Almost a week since I placed my order and they haven't shipped it yet, just like I experienced in the past with them.
Can confirm that I'm also still waiting to be notified about the item being shipped. Purchased on the 2nd of Feb and no updates since.
Same, I purchased a R1700BT on February 1st, and the order has not been shipped and has not been updated.
Wireless1 has some good deals. Just bought something off them earlier, but unfortunately it wasn't free shipping
