Here's a great site that lists all the 4k Blu-ray releases and whether or not they are native 4k or up-scaled 4k (ie fake 4k)
    https://4kmedia.org/real-or-fake-4k/

    • +6

This is seriously a thing? I'm still in 1080p land so haven't had any experience with 4K stuff.

      • +2

A lot of movies (especially CG heavy ones) are based off a 2k master due to the Increased cost of editing/processing at higher res

      • +1

yes it is but it shouldn't stop you from buying certain movies, apparently some fake 4k movies look amazing. There was a list somewhere, not sure if Titanic and Terminator 2 were part of it, going off memory.

      • +1

Fake 4k usually means that the studio is being lazy and up-scaling a 1080p or 2k master to 4k instead of remastering or scanning in the negative at 4k. Up-scaling is less desirable as it can introduce certain artifacts, aliasing, ghosting etc into the picture.

Here's one with that info on local 4K releases, also listing if it has HDR or Dolby Vision, and the best audio inclusion (Atmos, DTS:X etc):

        That’s a great resource. Thanks!

        • Yes, thanks, but can't find mad max fury road?

          • @Jackson: It's in there, directly under Lucy.

            • @AdrianW: Ah, I realised that i was actually looking at the previous link but then I responded to this one :)

    • Even so, the biggest upgrade that’s noticeable is HDR in my opinion.

Disney+ must be killing it probably why Amazon dropping prices

    • +4

Not sure why people are negging you so hard. Disney titles have dropped in price since Disney+ launched

Huh, the Solo on the cover art there looks surprisingly like Solo the drink's logo

    • Totally, I was confused also.

    • There's no Solo (drink) in the US…. looks like the graphic designer just did an internet search and ripped it off.

      • Dude, it's in the Star Wars font.

  • +1

    Solo was so bad

    • Quite the opposite

    • +2

I enjoyed it. And the rise of Skywalker. Oh well.

    • +1

      Wrong. It was really bad.

    • +2

Agree left the theatre before it even finished. It was that bad.

      • +1

        What made it so bad?

        • +3

I'd love to tell you, but I fell asleep when I tried to watch it. Something about a train and a bunch of characters you don't care about.

        • +9

Solo felt like two unrelated teams of people set out to make Han Solo movies.
And then they merged it into one movie.

None of those people saw Star Wars. And none of them had ever written a screenplay before.

That's all I can assume happened.

    • It's better in 4k

I wish they still had the 4K + BD + 3D triple disc combo set available.

      • pretty sure they do but it is like $77

oooh from global shop is $38…just need to add some more for free shipping if u got prime
        https://www.amazon.com.au/Alita-Battle-Angel-Blu-ray/dp/B07M…

        • Trouble with that one is it's Zone A and my player is fixed at Zone B.

        • As far as I remember, Alita has been the only Aus release that include 4k/BD/3D in one package (let alone in a Steelbook as well). It's pretty much just UK/EU and US versions that gets the best of all world's including a Digital version.
Looking forward to the Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4k this year!

    • great movie

  • +2

People should be getting paid to watch TLJ

    • It was truly horrible. Despite the reviews, I thought TRoS was the best of the three.

      • Think you made Rian and Kathleen mad 😀

      • +5

I think TRoS might be my favourite of the three. Need to give it another watch maybe. TLJ was woeful but.

Personally I think Rogue One is the best of the Disney Star Wars films. Told a fairly well constructed, self contained, story that wasn’t trying to set up mysteries for a later film or patch up decisions of prior ones. The way they worked it into A New Hope was terrific also.

Thanks OP, though I appear to be getting results of $11.99 each with my Amazon account :-)

    • Prices have changed a couple of times since posting

  • Thanks OP picked up Alita and few other BD's also on sale.

  • Life of Pi no longer available. :(

    Damn, missed alita

Unfortunately the golden age of films seems to be over and we are entering the age of social justice warrior propaganda (indoctrination disguised as entertainment) eg latest Ghostbusters (2016), Charlie's Angels, last 2 Star Wars films, Captain Marvel, Marvel/Disney killing off most of the caucasian superheroes in Avengers Endgame, and so on.

White = bad; male = bad; heterosexual = bad; belief in traditional genders = bad …

  • Time to start my collection in preparation for the PS5 I guess.

  • Thanks OP. Got a couple. Just need a 4k player now…
Any recommendations for a 4k player anyone?

This one gets mentioned a lot on Whirlpool as being a good player. I'm using the Sony X800 which is now obsolete but I got it really cheap. Would go the Panasonic if it died.

    • Xbox One S is an option for mid 200’s if you have any inclination ever to play games or family with kids you might want to entertain.

  • Watchmen is by far the best movie on offer at $17 or so
