Did you just jack the price back up to then offer a coupon to bring it back down?

  • -6

I'm confused. This is not supposed to be live until tomorrow 8am. Is it live or are you a moderator/ chat bot? The Amazon Coupon isn't live until 10pm tonight.

No the normal price is $49.99 and has been for 6 months and is published as that on our website for the same period and now. I am genuinely offering the discount prior to Valentines and I thought AMZ would show $49.99 sale price - $39.99 special so I did this for a day or so until I found out AMZ AU doesn't show genuine discounts like that.

I thought Ozbargain supporters would get confused saying it's not a discount because the discounted price here appears as the (new discounted) standard Amazon price, so I removed special pricing from Amazon and back to normal $49.99.

No the normal price is $49.99 and has been for 6 months

Actually, on Boxing Day, you had a Lightning Deal of $37.50

And let's not forget that you launched at $37.49

Is the deal live as it is not supposed to be.

        • +4

Do you mean the links that the guys posted above?

If so, that's what the price was yesterday without the discount code ($39.99). Even though you may think your Amazon page is the only place people can see the prices you offer, I'm afraid that's not the case. The history of your prices is tracked in multiple places that you don't control.

So be careful next time you offer a discount code. It's pretty easy to tell whether it's a legitimate discount off your normal price.

@Payne: Thanks Payne for the explanation. I'm fine with that and the Amazon thing was stopped the instant I realised it was displaying like a normal price and not discount.
I see why people would be angry with a jacked price just for the promotion here, but most product sellers run promotions for Cyber Monday or Xmas or Valentines or otherwise, but otherwise have a standard price so I'm missing why all the scrutiny.
I just remembered I've run a promo on Ebay and Catch too once. I didn't realise a deal was expected to be a once off.

@bfield99: No end of people here who feel they are entitled to 100 percent discounts on everything because of how "special" they are. Don't worry about them.

@mickeyjuiceman: Thanks mickeyjuiceman. I appreciate that. I was definitely feeling the angst.

  • Yes. For Amazon only and for about 8 - 10 hours. I wouldn't have thought that was insignificant, especially when many of the deals on Ozbargain seem to cycle. Its a genuine deal if that is the real question.

    Couples relationship questions… sounds fun

Thank you Mahalo. I was beginning to feel pedantically attacked by the first people posting. The coupon won't be live until 10pm tonight on Amazon. This deal was scheduled to go live here tomorrow 8am when I had checked it was all fine. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Edit: just read your comment above. That makes sense. Might have been a costly mistake unfortunately.

Just some advice in addition to my comment above. This is a bargain site with very savvy web users. It's not a traditional site for marketing campaigns as you might understand it.

People will check the history of prices and decide if what you're posting is actually a legitimate bargain (based on how much the product has been sold for before).

The problem here is that it looks like what you lowered the price to $39.99 yesterday, and then decided that using a discount code would be a better marketing strategy. So on the face of it, it looks a bit deceptive.

It does look like a legitimate discount off what you've decided is now your normal price, but not really a bargain based on previous prices. I hope that helps in future.

Thanks Payne and advice taken on board.

I definitely don't feel caught out. My launch price was just that .. short term opportunity for early adopters.

The Lightening deal also a short term trial with both being a discount of the standard $49.99 so this is why I'm not understanding. $49.99 has always been my price.

All your pricing sites/algorithms must show the RRP has nearly always been $49.99 with a handful of promotions which everyone does and its what OzBargains relies on. Even looking back in the last 3 months or 1 month or 7 days you will see $49.99 is the price, less a few special extremely short discounts, and a genuine discount is what I'm offering here.

Yes it's unfortunate timing I tried with Amazon in the last few days to implement the deal so people wouldn't have to add a special code, but all the people with checking software can surely see that.

Anyway, the deal is there, my product is worth $49.99 and my conscience is VERY clear. I will think twice before doing future deals here as there seems to be a large degree of mistrust and jumping on people without taking into account the long term trend (granted only 6 months for me).

I can understand why and as a consumer I also feel the same sometimes, but accusations like a 'fake coupon' and 'jack the price up' are not accurate, and the people saying that should have the data to know.

What does saying things like this hope to achieve? You realise this is Australia's largest bargain site. If you don't post your coupon as a deal, someone else can.

In between the "pedantic attacks" and "angst" you have experienced, maybe you'll take it as a lesson to clear up anything before other people find it?

How game are you? Turns out not very. You're turning a miscommunication into a consideration whether to stop posting here.

        Do you mean, caught out?
It's not an attack on you, it's a message for anyone else that might buy it not to fall for a fake coupon.

Talking to my wife about our relationship is a nightmare scenario for me.

Hi emmett21. I might be wrong but sounds like you need support :-)
I think all partners male and female have been in that position at some stage or many times. My thoughts if it help is - Start with open questions to get a better understanding of the issues if you can, and always make it a safe conversation (no escalations, retorts or judgements). Just listening. After that you might have the skills to take it to the next level of discussion, or see a professional if you can either yourself to understand your part in it, or preferably together. If that won't happen, then there are some good books around to understand how to phrase discussions (aka Crucial Conversations) or a 'certain board game', but whatever you do, it's best to make it a safe, non-judgmental environment, and that can be the hardest place to start for some people. Good luck.
