  • Listed as $247.99 for me.

    • $155.5 is for the old model, you're looking at the new one

      • Yeah turns out the link takes to incorrect item I found it.

      • +1

My bad, I had it linked incorrectly before. Fixed now.

        • Thanks OP, was looking for a good deal on one of these.

    • Same …$247.99 was going to get one and gift to someone …..

  • I used Zip Pay but my account hasn't been updated yet? I thought it was instant? Amazon has already sent me an order confirmation email.

    • +2

Amazon doesn't charge you until they ship the item.

      • It's just been updated now. Thanks.

    Thanks, submitted price protection claim

Great pressure cooker. Once you get the concept of the basic recipe, you can improvise with other ingredients. Meat, spices, water. So simple.

  • I'm new to this. Wat Kinds of food is this best used to cook?

  • Thanks. I had $20 in vouchers to waste for glue stick errors. Good item to spend it on. Nice stews this winter for me

How is it as a rice cooker. Good rice cooker is about $400

    • You can cook biryani rice as well. Or extra water you make porridge:)
There’s a choice to cook risotto too.

    • +1

It’s great. 1:1 ratio of rinsed rice to water and then cook for 3 minutes with a natural pressure release

  • Anyone can give me comparison with the Kmart pressure cooker one?

I was interested in getting an instant pot, but this one seems alright. Thoughts?

    • +1

I'm in same boat, tossing up between this and a 3 litre instant pot, which is smaller but adequate for small families

      • +1

im waiting for the 8litre instant pot to go on sale again(if it does). its now $299 but missed the sale when it was $199 :(

        • That would be a good price, even though larger than my need, I may get one lol

          • @otter-raptor: haha yeah i just want the 8litre for doing extra meals to chuck in the freezer :D i think the 5.7litre is about $269 on amazon(AUS). theres even a 10litre version on there for $791 lol.

instant pot has stainless steel inner bowl, this one is aluminium with non stick coating.

stainless steel triple ply base bowl will last longer and no need to worry about scratching. instant pot is better if you can afford the extra coin.

        • +1

You can buy the stainless steel pot for this for about $50.

    • Looking at instant pot website, I can assume it’s the same thing.

      • Instant pot has a manual steam release knob. This one is automatic.

        • Oh I didn't know that. Automatic sounds more … better?

        • i think the instant pot duo nova has auto release?? correct me if im wrong

        • @muncan this unit also has a manual steam release knob. I haven't seen many that don't have that feature. You select between 'Sealing' and 'Venting' …this one also has 'Baking'

          • @HowMuch4Cash: Sorry I thought this deal was the Breville which auto vents after cooking. I take complete responsibility for my error.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the Instant Pot is just a regular electric pressure cooker with a lot of marketing and hype around it right? Is there anything that makes it special compared to any other all-in-one pressure cooker from another company?

I understand why it's so popular in the US, because over there its very cheap (Lux model is $56 on sale right now), readily available, and was the first hugely successful electric pressure cooker - so there's lots of recipes and community around it.

But someone has to explain to me why they would pay $100 more for an Instant Pot in Australia. Especially as any Instant Pot recipe can be adapted easily to another pressure cooker and you can get stainless steel bowls for this Philips (and the ceramic bowl it comes with is also a popular accessory for Instant Pot in US).

        • I feel the same way. I've tried the instant pot recipes I've found online with this cooker and they've turned out alright. Only difference I find is that this one can pressure cook for minimum 20 mins and there's no way to cook lesser. So if the recipe needs exact cooking, it will need some manual adjustments.

    Seems like a good price.
Mum asked for me to look out for the instant pot brand one.

    Will she be disappointed?

    • +1

Practically the same thing. I cook InstantPot recipes in mine and they always turn out fine.

Showing up as $189 from other sellers for me :( sold out?

I had this model.. worked great for 3 months then some temp sensor went and started to overcook everything quickly. I want to buy one again but now scared

    • Unless you did not get a refund just think of it as an extended lease

I have a top of the line tiger rice cooker and will put these two devices to a test against each other.

  • Does this allow custom pressure settings like the HD2145? And does it have auto pressure release?
