Bank Miscalculated my Balance

So before the shopping season I loaded my account with some money, my latest balance were $35 and then I purchase something for $30 but for some reason it show up on my balance as -$25 (negative). I don't understand why this seems to happen, I am about to contact the bank about this issue but before I do that should there be anything else I should also do? I'm thinking maybe I'll just run through all my balances to make sure that they're in check but not sure how long should I date it back to? Any suggestion?

Yea, contact bank before contacting Ozb in-house expert…

Don't be silly, first ask people who can't see your transaction history to guess!

  • +2

The $35 may not have included all recent transactions. Had something been pending but not complete, this could explain it.

  • +5

lol have you actually looked at your transactions?

Hi mate if you just post your log in details we can have a look for you

    • +1

Can you also pay the negative balance while you at it?

      • +1

        Yes sure please post now

  • Can confirm that nothing is in pending as I have waited a few weeks for any pending to clear and I also checked the pending tab. Also want to add that this transaction were made about 1 month ago so all recent balance is somewhat irrelavent.

    • Or maybe you had a payment coming up and it just coincidentally went through with your current purchase. Had that happen to me once.

I've had payments double up in the banks end, although only paid out once…
They had to manually correct my balance.

I should have asked them to add a couple of 00's to the balance ;)

      • which bank ?

  • Can you post your account details with id/pwd so that someone from us can look at it and give you precise answer?

    • +1

…post your account details with id/pwd

Don't bother dude… the guy has a negative balance so you'll be getting nothing! haha

  • Did the $30 item get double-charged or something similar?

Bad bargain you got from your bank, OP.

It is obvious that the debit item has been deducted twice to arrive at the balance:
    USD35.23
    - USD30.34
    - USD30.34
    = USD25.45(-)

The balance is then rectified with the USD30.80 Credit transaction.

    Why? No idea.
Ask your bank / credit provider (noting that the account appears to have been in debit for a couple of weeks).

    • this is correct, some pymts may show twice due to an authorisation, google it : https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=pymt+show…

also this is not the bank statement and whatever is shown in the transaction listings may not be final hence sometimes you'll see pending or other edit: should clarify whatever is shown on the transaction listing/history may not be necessarily be reflected on the bank statement

    • Yep but now looks accurate as of the 14/1 transaction

Side note, the screen grab was posted 30 minutes after posting

    • From your calculation it seemed that I was debited twice even though it only showed up once (and nothing in pending). The USD30.80 is completely irrelevant as this is from an Amazon refund of a completely different purchase. Do you know the maximum time a transaction can stay in pending?

      USD35.23
      - USD30.34
      - USD30.34
      = USD25.45(-)

Yep, going to the next step, it already rectified the issue.

      . + USD30.34 (= USD4.89 to what it should be)
      . + USD30.80
      . = USD35.69(+)

So unless the bank is charging negative balance fees, just ignore it or ask the bank.

  • Did the bank charge you any negative balance fees? If not don’t worry about it, your balance is displaying correctly as of 14 Jan 2020.
