      Unfortunately yes - in the type of colours used, etc. There seems to be more than desirable examples of toxins in Chinese made toys in recent years :-(

        It is illegal to sell toys in Australia which contain lead and other heavy minerals. For that reason most companies will clearly mark their products with ISO tested numbers to identify that it is a safe and tested product. When you are buying online, look out for the words ‘free from harmful minerals’ or ‘Lead Free or No toxic Paint’.

        Well known toy brands (popular brands) spends large amounts of money on testing every year to ensure that their products are safe (even companies producing toys within China!) Our beloved 'Melissa and Doug' is produced in China but it is a beautiful product made from the highest quality and a safe and tested product. Be careful buying toys from cheap looking markets or $2 dollar shop toys, and if in doubt you can always ask the store owner to be clear about the product testing.
