Thailand Travel with Partner during Feb

Hi Guys,

Travelling Thailand with my girlfriend in February and will be in Phuket and the south islands for about 4/ 5 days. We can't swim but would like to do some water activities that hopefully do not require swimming. We're into the ATV's and good views etc as well. Can you guys suggest somethings to do from your experience please? We plan to stay at a budget resort and will be doing stuff outside of the resort most of the time!

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

u cant swim??… learn to swim before u go.

if not, u can do that thing where u dip your feet in those tanks and the tiny fish clean your feet. thats kinda a water activity. but u also might get hepatitis from that….

That's for when he's travelling alone

      • Who says the GF can't join in…

  • You don't need to swim to be able to do the day tours on the boats. They give you life vests so you float around and use the snorkels.

  • elephant sanctualy.
    zen massages 7.50 an hour.

  • Hey bud, also heading over to Phuket in Feb!
I recommend having a chat to this tour arranger in Phuket (Patong) if you're near by
    https://www.facebook.com/ExquisiteToursbyMissWe/

She has a full list of activities popular in the area, set's up pick up and drop off, pricing isn't bad either (she makes a small commission but is awesome at her job).
Used her 3 times before and the service is flawless.

John Grey sea canoe (is awesome - do look it up!)
    Hanguman ziplining
    White water rafting
    Quadbike tour
    Cooking lessons
    Food tours
    Elephant sanctuary visit
Phuket fantasea (if that's your thing)
+ a bunch of other things

  • You should join PHUKET (Thailand) GROUPIES on Facebook. Lots of experienced Phuket fans there who will be able to answer any questions.

You absolutely need to be able to swim to scuba dive. Telling someone who is a non-swimmer to try scuba diving baffles me a little bit… I feel very sorry for instructors who end up with non-swimmers on Discover Scuba Dives, it is potentially incredibly dangerous. A reasonable amount of people struggle with the concept of being underwater regardless, add someone who cannot swim and there are all kinds of issues.

Please don't try scuba diving if you cannot swim. It's not safe and I doubt it is much fun…

    • Yes, but unfortunately there are some really dodgy operators around that will 'coach' customers into getting through an intro dive.

      Extremely dangerous.

  • It's been years and years since I did it, but we went there on our honeymoon and did the John Gray Sea Canoe (https://www.johngray-seacanoe.com/) "Hong by Starlight" tour. It was absolutely fantastic - you don't need to be able to swim, although you will be out in small canoes at times so you will get wet. There are a few small, narrow caves you need to squeeze through at times so bear that in mind if you're claustrophobic, although you will have a guide with you in the canoe to help. Saw some amazing sights, had a lot of fun - the fact we still talk about it today, nearly 14 years later, is probably a good indicator of how much we enjoyed it.

  • if you cant swim honestly avoid all water activities, it is not worth the risk of falling in. If neither of you can swim then you cant save each other either. You could easily learn to swim at a basic level before you go which would make it much more enjoyable for you. The beaches there are beautiful and snorkeling is really fun. A lot of the boat tours involve swimming and snorkeling too especially the phi phi island ones, so i would be wary of them as it might be a waste of your money just to sit in the boat, although the places they take you to are amazingly pretty. Also cant believe people are suggesting scuba diving, you need to be able to swim well to scuba dive. Heaps of other fun stuff to do though, my partner and i went to a gun range, then after we went on an ATV tour where we took a buggy up to the big budda, then went offroading with it in the jungle while it pissed down rain.

  • We can't swim

Please elaborate, because a lot of Thai resorts, beaches and locations are fairly un-monitored so if you actually are unable to swim I'd seriously consider just staying on the beach. Otherwise there's a real risk you'll, one or both, drown.

  • Take a boat/paddling tour to Phan-nga and/or Phi Phi.

Forget the underwater stuff, unless you're prepared to go the Andamans, because there's SFA to see thanks to over-fishing, cyanide fishing and dynamite fishing, but more importantly - YOU CAN'T SWIM.
