Also $12 delivered Amazon Prime (was $11 couple days ago).

  • Do these get hot?

    • +2

No, only those with tiny metal casing one do

      • Yeah, plenty of plastic on these so your fingers don't touch the metal.

    • +3

Yes, they do get hot, but it’s a little deceptive… the plastic casing is actually just to make it look like a regular usb thumb drive. The memory chip itself seems to be within the actual USB-A port! So the USB port on the drive does get very hot (at least 60-70 degrees) but the plastic shell does not. I guess it’s economical for them to make the drives in this way because they could use the same tooling for those other thumb drives they make that only stick out about 5mm from the usb port. Also, i would assume they just use the memory chips from their microSD cards in all of these usb drives. Ijust received some of these drives today and they are pretty good for the price. Sequential write is around 40-45mb/s for the first gb or so, then drops to 26-27mb/s. Sequential read sits around 150mb/sec. But yes, the usb connector part does get very hot during use.

Officeworks also has the same stick at the same price- $12. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/sandisk-64…

Gee, I got two from HN for $10 each at 2pm today.

    • +5

      They were usb 2.0

      • +1

        And 32gb

  • +2

3 of them was $19 on eBay not long ago ?

    • -1

Those would have been the awful Cruzer Blades.

      • +1

Nope, it was def these same drives. Received mine today. Tested and seems to be no issues. See my comment above for more info.

        • Yep got mine today too, three of the same drives for $19.89. Did a full format on each and the usb A ports were pretty hot. In hindsight I should have made better use of an under-utilised bargain to validate the reported 60-70C. If i had my time again, I'd read this thread before taking the Sandisk Ultra plunge. Buying one for $12 instead of three for $20 could in fact be a deal. YMMV (especially if youve got three of them).

  • This isnt extreme

  • Good for rom storage on connected to shield?

  • I ultimately decided against buy one because of the speeds it claims vs. the speeds it actually offers. Here is just one example of a review:

    https://www.hardwarebbq.com/sandisk-ultra-64gb-usb-3-0-flash…

    • +1

Good to be wary, but that’s an older model. I just received 3 of these current sandisk 64gb ultras and the write speed is 26-40mb/s depending what you’re copying, while the read speed is around 150mb/sec.

  • +1

Useless drives that overheat and write speeds crawl to a stop. Got 3 of them in various sizes up to 128gb. Don't know what to do with them

    • +3

The older ones and 32gb or smaller versions are all apparently rubbish. The 64gb aren’t half bad though. Good for keeping a bootable copy of windows or using as a drive you can lend to friends and not worry too much about never getting it back, but is also faster than 3mb/s lol

      • +1

Any drive that I lend to a friend is considered a write off anyway. Thank god they aren’t expensive these days.

      • +1

Isn't anything bigger than 16GB for a bootable drive just a waste of space?

    • Happy to give you some basic computer support to show you how to use the drives effectively?

    • +2

If the first 2 where rubbish why did you buy a third ?

      • There have been many 3 for $X deals of these in the past. Honestly, they are rubbish. Hottest I've ever seen + mine had corruption issues multiple times. Only usb drive that I've ever put in the bin. Usually they get hoarded in a drawer. lol. Fortunately they only suckered me for one.

    • Put them on the classifieds here.

The CZ48 Ultra 64GB from ShoppingSquare (has very long serial number):

    Sequence Read/Write: 134/26MB/s

    https://ibb.co/album/jgxZyv

The CZ48 Ultra 64GB from FTT (has short serial number):

    Sequence Read/Write: 144/24.6MB/s

    https://ibb.co/album/cFngva

Do not buy the CZ48 32GB, seems to have design problem, will be read only right away after a benchmark
    https://ibb.co/album/iHnx1F

    • Where are you getting the short and long serial numbers?

I've got a CZ48 Ultra 64GB from FTT, averaged approx 30MB/s sustained write while writing just short of full. Didn't get hot while doing it either.

  • any 512g deal?

  • +2

These were 3 for $19 on ebay not long ago.

    • Certainly were. Good deal.

  • +1

I got 3 of these from ebay for free a couple of weeks ago, just arrived tonight!

  • very tempted, but the independent speed tests on this specific model of the Ultra are scathing about how slow it is:
    https://usb.userbenchmark.com/SanDisk-Ultra-USB-30-16GB/Rati…

    • userbenchmark is a scam, never has been accurate, also the link you gave is 16GB

  • picked up one from OW for $12 … not showing markdown on instore pricetag, but it scanned correctly at checkout. thanks OP

  • Are these the exreme ones that run really fast?

    • Those are Ultra, which means ultra slow .

The extreme ones have extreme in the product name.
