Great price, but stock for Sydney already seems a bit sparse.
1 of 5 stores near me have it stocked.

    • 6 closest stores to me have "In Stock" in VIC

      • My local store says in stock but there was no vanilla on the shelf (there was not even room for vanilla in the freezer. It was full of other flavors). But when I asked for it, an employee found one from the back. Maybe they are keeping them for themselves.

How is this compared to McDonald's 50c ice cream?

    • +8

      Well Macca's is soft serve

This is ice cream made with fresh cream.

Their vanilla is pretty good my favourite ice cream brand currently

    • +2

Häagen-dazs is made in France bro~

    • +1

Much better in my opinion, and given the quantity in a 50c cone, probably better value than the maccas cone.

    • +6

What 50c ice-cream?? Have u been lately? Last time I got on it was 85c!

    • +1

If you're asking that question, just buy the Maccas ice cream

    • +1

One of my favourite juvenile pastimes was to go into Maccas and ask "How much are the 30cent cones?" Very few staff members actually had a sense of humour.

      • …or just ordering 5-10x 30cent cones in the drive thru and nothing else

  • The real McCoy.

  • Great deal for this ice cream, although their math is off, the website says 1/2 price, $11.50 at 1/2 price is not $4.

    • +36

Their payroll department also does their catalogues apparently..

      • +2

As a Woolworths employee, I felt that deeply.

    • +10

      Their programmer wrote:
      if price <= 0.5 * rrp
      display 1/2 price sticker

Coles has 30% off $9.00 Sara Lee ice creams last week, they were $4.50.

        🤢

        • Who the hell down votes you for that?????

          • @snuke: People with no taste of finer things.

  • +5

i can feel my left arm tingling already!

  • Not on sale in Annerley Qld

  • Not on sale south west sydney.

    • -1

That's because all of the stock has been stolen there.

      • +1

I bought 3x tubs from the back of a truck at Miller, wasn't refrigerated though, so we had soup.

    • I would think it's across all Woolworths. You can check with the staff if they don't have a discount tag. Having no stock is a different issue all together though - then the question of price doesn't come into picture unless you want to get a rain-check.

      • In store there is no discount but since its online i managed to get the full discount and just picked up at the store.

        Win!

        • Nice. There's a minimum order amount for the pick up.. isn't it?

  • +22

Not questioning that this tastes nice, but do people really normally pay $11.50 for just 457ml ?!
Even for $4.50 it's beyond my budget.

    • +1

Really? A downvote for a question? Sacred cows make the best hamburgers.

    • +4

I'm with you on this one… $4.50 for a bowl of ice cream is a bit much especially if one eats a few bowls a day!

      • +5

        You eat too much bro

      • +5

Wait people eat the entire tub at once?! No wonder why obesity is so common nowadays. One tub is 4,752.8kJ which is more than half of the average recommend food intake for the entire day! 8700kJ.

        • +3

Then don't eat more then two tubs a day and nothing else. Simple.

        • Not if you balance it out. But then most people can't stop themselves. They can literally eat themselves to homelessness of you let them.

        • +2

Yes, you've finally realised why 67% of Australian adults are overweight or obese. One of these a day + brekkie/lunch/dinner + a chocolate bar/chips/coke = an overweight country. And very few people know how to read a nutrition label or care. They just want something tasty after a long day of work/looking after the kids.

          • @sigmaspace: This is a great diet plan thanks.

            • @OhPee: …its called the 'aussie-battler(of obesity) diet'. all the rage right now….

    • +7

Unfortunately this and ben and jerry's seem like the only two brands which have almost "100% fresh" ingredients and since its so difficult to get this high quality stuff, its quite expensive. Even Connoisseur uses "Glucose Syrup (Wheat), Dextrose Monohydrate, Flavour, Vegetable Origin Emulsifier [471 (Soy)], Vegetable Gum (410), Colours (160b)." and they market them selves as high quality, while adding colour to a vanilla ice-cream. Its more so about the quality of ingredients and how pure it is compared to home-made ice-cream I guess. Thus the high price.

      • +3

I'm genuinely perplexed with what you consider 'almost "100% fresh" ingredients'; The second ingredient (in descending order of quantity) in Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream is Condensed Skimmed Milk.
I also don't really understand why you seem to be listing glucose as something bad and/or low quality in Connoisseur ice cream, but don't seem to mind sugar (sucrose) in the Häagen-Daz.
        Apologies if I misunderstood.

        • By "fresh" I meant realistic materials in real ice-cream.

I just copy pasted some of the ingredients of the connoisseur. Not exactly sure of the difference of Sugar and Glucose though.

    • +2

I would say that $4.50 is reasonable as it would be around the same price for a double scoop at an ice-cream parlour and considering it's "almost 100%" fresh ingredients, I would rate them on par with each other except you can have this at home instead of having to go out.

      • +9

$4.50 for a double scoop? Around where I am a single scoop is normally around $5.50!

Its what Australians have been teached, its about bragging rights. They think everything that costs is quality, good, fancy etc. Sad to say it, primitive in the head nation, media driven, trendy, trendy. Till yesterday Australians had no idea at all what prosciutto was, they were looking at Europeans here like they're devil's eating it and today everyone think its just a bit fancy to slice up some of it with salamis on that new rustic style serving chopping board 😂😂😂😂😂😂 sorry, i just can't do it any more.

      • +2

Didn't neg you. However, I don't think people get these to brag. It's more about most other ice cream products in supermarkets have too many unnatural, artificial ingredients. Häagen-Dazs is pretty ubiquitous in many countries (not special to be honest).

Though Häagen-Dazs ice cream sold here might be made in French, it is an American brand and owned by Nestlé. Don't really see a big deal about it.

        • Though Häagen-Dazs ice cream sold here might be made in French, it is an American brand and owned by Nestlé. Don't really see a big deal about it.

Indeed. I still think it's over-hyped. The name itself was chosen for marketing reasons and has no meaning behind it, but it's always been a US brand.

    • Go get gelato outside a small cup is 4.50

Buying a tub for ten is good value

    • +1

Most people don't buy these at RRP, but at 50% off or more discount, some flavours do sell out regularly at my local Woolworth.

Most ice cream products sold at supermarkets are pretty unhealthy (well, even this one isn't exactly healthy), but the ingredients are better than most of the other ones. 457 ml is good in a way - you tend to eat less ice cream - which is better.

I prefer my local Woolworth to have them sold out quickly at 50%+ off so I cannot buy them. Ice cream is bad for me (a chubby person).

    • Yeah, back in my day you didn't even have these tiny tubs on the market. You'd get the 2 liter Cadbury icecream for $5 or whatever.
I don't see the appeal of these supposed premium icecreams where you get a miniscule amount and pay dearly. Icecream was fine but we changed it.

  • +1

Was about to place an order and got sold out on me :(

Edit: I just changed store to pick up from and it worked

  • is this any different to their 'vanilla bean' flavour?

    • +1

Probably…vanilla bean flavour is usually far superior taste wise.

    • -1

      No.

      • Neg me all you want, they're exactly the same.

  • +2

Their rrp! their discount! Make sure this price seems worth your money!
It like David Jones shirt, rrp $89, on sale at $19.

    • Don't forgive Myer, ay.

  • +2

FYI: Connoisseur coconut and chocolate is on clearance at Coles for like $4.

    • +1

We all scream for ice cream!

    • +1

Love the use of the word "you". Considering you're posting on here you must also have an ice cream "issue" ;)

      • …dealing with my ice cream 'issue'. i find if i avoid these deals and dont walk down the ice cream aisle im generally ok

        • +3

I deal with mine by always having zero freezer space for any ;)

          • @lainey13: Just means you have to eat it within the hour…

            • +1

@ngengerous: I have sensitive teeth and lactose intolerance to cover those loopholes! Haha

  • Ordered 6 for pick up today, cheers OP.

  • Still absurdly overpriced.

    • -1

All international ice cream brands are over-priced through.. may be it has to do with import duty? Not sure.

      • Laughed at this until I realised it's actually made in France. Not under licence here with Australian dairy, but actually made in France and shipped. Ice cream…

I think I'll stick to the stuff we make locally thanks.

  • Managed to get a rain-check but not sure if the store will get any stock in the next one month or so as I often don't see Häagen-Dazs ice creams on shelves.

  • it said unavailable in the webpage?

  • Found some at Redfern Woolies but scanned at $11.50, online only?

  • +1

Tuggerah Woolies, no discounted price tag but scanned at $4.00.

  • Most of the crap we get sold is not Ice Cream…

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2017/01/16/the-great-ice-c…

Even the Bulla Creamy Classic which we buy, and is Ice Cream, still has plenty of additives. Expect to pay for the real McCoy, but $11.50 for less than 500ml seems very gougey

  • +1

First there were wine (profanity), then whisky (profanity), now ice cream (profanity).

    Bankers.

  • Only $2.50 a tub now.
