It's a good game, worth the price of admission.

(Cue comments saying it's free on Game Pass.)

    • +3

Nothing is free if you need to pay a subscription to get it.

…However, it is included with Game Pass.

      • +1

well I paid $2 for 3 months then got another 12 of ultimate free by watching a forza stream.

Xbox Game Pass is awesome because of this so many good games added every month and exclusives day one, crazy good value.

  • Ordered one. Cheers OP

It's a fairly safe and shallow experience.

It's not particularly hard either and most of the loot either dropped or lying around is relatively useless.

    • Not conparable as Fallout4 then? I was curious about this game as I nearing the end of Fallout4 ( avoided main story until now)

      • +1

The loot is important, you need money. I just want to go to every nook and cranny just to find a chest.
The dialogue is one of the best. Can't just go Next-Next-Next you must listen to make better responses.
Travelling to different planets made me think of an old dungeon game called Captive (if anyone remembers)
        Love it so far

You end up with that much ammo and money at the end that it's not important at all. I mean sure you need money to tinker all your weapons but for what purpose? The enemies die quickly with stock standard weaponry anyway. I upgraded all of my stuff until it cost around 1500 per upgrade and I still had about 50k left at the end. Enemies die quickly that there's really no point.

The dialogue is ok. I wouldn't say the best. That goes to Disco Elysium by a long way. Some of the companions have great dialogue especially to each other when you have them in your party but the majority of NPC dialogue is pretty standard affair for these types of games.

I still enjoyed the game but it is definitely on the safe side. I was happy with how the story wrapped up but it was over rather quickly. Some of the side quests were good and tied into the main story nicely. Be sure to read all of the logs.

lots of ppl saying bethesda is redundant now cos of this game being so awesome. Have to say i really liked fallout 4 but i just couldnt get into this at all. It's not that there's anything particularly wrong but i just didnt find it engaging whatsoever.

        • I think most of that is because of the Fallout 76 debacle which is a disaster for them as a developer. Fallout 4 was pretty well recieved though and they have probably the best FPS still (DOOM) as a publisher.

I agree I found TOW boring but I didn't play that far.

        Not conparable as Fallout4 then?

The Outer Worlds is by developers Obsidian, who made a Fallout game after Fallout 3 called Fallout: New Vegas. New Vegas is famous for having a sense of humour and possibly being better than Fallout 3.

When Fallout 4 was released some people thought it was worse than Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

So with The Outer Worlds Obsidian was trying (and succeeded) to return to the feel of Fallout: New Vegas although they no longer had rights to the Fallout IP.

        • isnt obsidian also comprised by some of the main guys who made fallout 1 and 2 ? So it's actually their baby to begin with, new vegas came much later.

          • @Iggemo: Some of the interplay guys moved into obsidian, but the IP isn't owned by them any longer

I once got downvoted to hell on reddit for saying that Fallout 4 was simply better than the Outer Worlds.

I enjoyed Fallout 4 (and 3) a ton more as there was simply more to do.

The Outer Worlds on the other hand is segmented in to only a few areas and there are parts of the world map that you can't even go to (yet). It's a bit of a cruise the entire way. The whole 'corporations own us' theme is fairly repetitive and becomes a tiresome parody as you hit the endgame.

(Honestly, your character was just better off staying in cryo-sleep…)

This isn't the best choice. It's Spacer's Choice

Boring & repetitive as hell. After you cleared one planet, you saw them all. Quests all are the same, enemies are boring and easy, loot is everywhere to the point that you couldn’t be bothered checking dead enemies anymore. Game don’t encourage exploration as level design is very shallow and all bloody planets are the same.

Some funny lines in dialogues but get yourself a good book if you’re into a good reading.

Not even close to Fallout 4. Heck, even Fallout 76 main story line is way more engaging & interesting than this.

I really had an itch for another fantasy or science-fiction open world since Skyrim, and Outer World's did scratch that itch for me. Not quite the same variety of items and quests as skyrim, but much more interesting characters and so much recorded dialogue! Your team is constantly bantering, commenting on ongoing activities, talking about their backstory and picking on each other the whole game and I didn't hear a repeated line of dialogue once. It's pretty amazing in that regard.

100% agree. I love the supernova difficulty option too.

  • Having beat the game i will make the following points

    Negatives

There are way too many loading screens
Areas are too small and some areas could of been combined into larger ones
No explosives (grenades, rocket launchers etc)
Game becomes too easy once you max out dialogue
Itemization is poor and generic outside the science weapons
Armour and weapon customization is poor
    Food is basically useless
    Not enough enemy variety
Very easy to cheese the system and make money

    Positives

    Dialogue is very well written
Multi branching options to situations (e.g Guns blazing, sneaking, low intelligence, science or dialogue options). You can even turn in one of the main characters that rescues you at the very start of the game rather than help him.
Very well polished and almost no bugs
Similar vibe to Fallout but does its own unique thing
Lore rich and lots of backstory
    Side quests are interesting

It gets maybe gets a 6.8 out of 10 from me

    • +1

Food isn't useless in Supernova difficulty.
