From the website:

In UNDERTALE you play as a human child who falls underground into the world of monsters. Now you must find your way out… or stay trapped forever.

Welcome to UNDERTALE, an RPG game where you don't have to kill anyone. Each enemy can be "defeated" nonviolently. Dance with a slime. Pet a dog. Whisper your favorite secret to a knight.
Or, ignore this choice and rain destruction upon your foes.
But your journey will take determination. Each adversary has unique bullet patterns that you must dodge as well (don't worry, it's not that hard).

  • Killing is unnecessary: negotiate out of danger using the unique battle system.
  • Time your attacks for extra damage, then dodge enemy attacks in a style reminiscent of top-down shooters.
  • Soulful, character-rich story with an emphasis on humor.
  • Created mostly by one person.
  • Become friends with all of the bosses!
  • At least 5 dogs.

Enjoy!

Fantastic game. Would highly recommend. No brainer to get it DRM-free as well.

    • My 9 year old is obsessed with it despite never playing it. Is it kid friendly?

Yes. There's a big cult following on the game and it's very popular among 10+ year olds (source: am school teacher). The battles are unique like minigames and the story is pretty cool. What blew my mind is that the creator of the game, Toby Fox, did 99% of the game, including music, art, coding, etc.

There is a pretty rich back story to the game for something that looks so simple on the surface.

        • Thanks. All I knew about it was there was a 'genocide' ending, so I wasn't sure if it was particularly dark/disturbing despite the graphic style.

I have no problems with things a little dark, but you never know what sort of content/themes you'll find in indie games.

      • Absolutely. Like shiny said there is a bit of a cult folllowing around it, it’s amazing. Kid friendly for sure, but would highly recommend it for adults as well, it has themes which will go over the kid’s head but they’ll still enjoy it, you’ll get the deeper meaning if you play it. Amazing game :)

Don’t let your kid near the fanbase though. The fanbase is NOT kid friendly.

      • For a game that's big with kids, the game itself gets quote difficult towards the end. Good game though. No inappropriate themes. Maybe some scary themes (again, especially at the end), but should be good with some parental guidance.

  • It's on Xbox game pass as well :)

Amazing game in so many ways!
