28 Degree Visa in Korea Warning

So I'm traveling in s.korea visiting family and thought I should give people the heads up about using the 28 degree credit card in Korea. Most of the time it does work without a problem but in 10%-20% of times it doesn't work and you get a standard response that this card cannot be used in Korea.

It is still definitely worth using but to save embarrassment or inconvenience have cash on hand as well.

I saw a forum topic from 2015 but thought this was worth it's own thread. I should also say this is in Jeollanamdo (Jeonnam) which is the least developed area of Korea and I suspect you may have less troubles in Seoul and Busan.

    Visa?

    • my first thought too :D

  • Unrelated, but I've had my Ubank Visa Debit card not work a couple of times in Taiwan. Worked perfectly in Thailand though.

    • My Ubank didn't work in Singapore Changi airport neither. I tried PayPass, not sure about insert though.

      • Had no problem with my Ubank card at Changi airport Burger King - did the PayPass and it worked fine. Must be just a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing.

        • I used in 2 shops, neither worked. I don't know. But I had HSBC everyday global and it worked.

  • I imagine the visa doesn't work 100% of the time but the mastercard should fare better.

  • My 28 Degrees Card (now called Latitude) is Mastercard. However I have not used in Korea.

  • I think this happens almost everywhere outside western countries.

Some banks just don't accept international cards, or are picky.
