How Much of Your Discretionary Spending in Ozb Based?

This came up with workmates during some casual banter. They know I am a huge OzB fan and always recommending them stuff. I did a quick stocktake of my discretionary spend as part of some budgeting for 2020 and surprisingly almost all my discretionary (and most essential) purchases were OzB influenced. I'm on the app twice a day at least and have gotten better at not buying stuff I don't need even if it's cheap (looks at eneloop pile) but also tend to consult OzB more and more.

I calculated I spent about 80% of my discretionary income (ex food, coffee, bills, mortgage etc.) on OzB influenced buys and this tallied up to about $15k for the year. If not for my hobby of cycling and the purchases there, it would have very well been 100%. Even if I find something that isn't on OzB I tend to cross search "item" + 'OzB' via google just to make sure lol.

What does your OzB financials look like?

Only twice a day? You're not trying hard enough.😁

      • That was the OP words….

My Usage is more like this.

(That excludes time I spend on my computer haha.)

Not sure what Ozbargain 'based' means but I consult Ozbargain with almost every significant spend.

  • I'm on OzBargain more than i should be and buying things more than i should be.

My new year resolution is to visit ozbargain less than last year. Coincidentally i had the same resolution last year.

  • Well if you're spending money on anything why not make it OzBargain inspired.
I tend to know what I want before checking the site, then I either purchase it through a deal, wait for a deal, or bite the bullet and pay the lowest price outside of any Ozbargain posting.
These days I know what things cost and don't have to use Ozbargain for a lot of purchases.

Im too scared to calculate my ozbargain spending =)

    No regrets though!

  • Discretionary spending? All my spending is necessity.

I'm not rich, so there is no 'discretionary' spending. Hell, you spend almost as much on discretionary spending as I make, period. I can't even imagine how much stuff that entails, and how it would be stored.
