Coles Plant Based Vegan Roast & Chutney 50c (Was $15) @ Coles

430

Just saw Coles has reduced to clear their Xmas items to 50c - wrapping paper, christmas crackers, gingerbread flavoured custard etc.

Picked up a few of their plant-based vegan roasts that was originally retailing at $15… still plenty left at Coles Maroubra Junction ~30mins ago

At 50c, worth a go

  • That would probably kill a brown dog.

    • Haha, I got that reference. Most won't. Although in hindsight it was a terrible idea for a segment.

  • Anyone know if this is at other locations?

  • What section are these in?

    • +3

      Section 8

    • +7

      In the garbage bin aisle.

Had a quick look at lunch, none at my local Sunny Coast store. Shiteload of boxes of fruit mince pies for 25c each though.

    • +1

They're great, and only 76% sugar!

  • +5

    This thing tastes really good.

    • +2

Are they made from real vegans?

      • -5

They are made by people who can't read. That is why they got a factory job and not a desk job. Big letters "Plant Based"

        • +3

          Some people are spuds

          • +4

@ajr5k: LOL spuds are a complete nutritious meal, it is offensive to spuds.

            • @netjock: complete in what way?

              • @elli0t: Sorry I stole your best friend, Google told me

                • @netjock: Thanks. Didn't realise a complete nutritious meal could be made just from raw potatoes. Glycoalkaloids, acrylamides, lectins and oxalates sound great too!

        • Might as well face it you're addicted to spuds…….WAY!

    • +3

      That's what my wife says.

  • Out of curiosity what do these taste like

Looks like a oversized over cooked garlic bread

    • +2

Vegan roast, Kind of a very sweet and firm roast chicken stuffing.

Sweet as sponge cake, meaty texture, acceptable aftertaste, can easily serve 4 people.

      • +1

        That actuallt sounds quite nice!

  • +2

Not at Carindale, Brisbane - checked with staff.

    But picked up $1 items:
*Coles Finest Luxury Chocolate … Sponge Pudding 550g
*Hamlet Belgian milk chocolate 150g (39 thin pieces) Great tasting for eating or melting in drinks

    • The chocolate sponge is pretty nice, heated it comes out covered in 'gold'. Add the Raspberry & Prosecco sauce from separate sachet.
For a better chocolate experience, I buried some Belgian milk chocolate pieces in the sponge😊

  • I don't think you're going to find this at many stores, apparently they're actually pretty good and sold really well.

    • Vegans are fast

    • sold really well.

Makes you wonder why it is on clearance

      • -1

You could say the same thing about boxing day sales?

And the same thing about discounts on close to use by?

You're on a different level ozBargainer… maybe they should just put a sticker over "Christmas" with words "Easter"

        • Yep……saw the Hot X buns in stores yesterday…..when is Easter anyway?

      • +3

I don't think that logic applies. You won't find this in the store in the majority of locations, just because it's available at this store and maybe a few others doesn't mean it didn't sell well. Local clientele still varies store to store.

        • -2

Logic doesn't go down too well. Get them with a really long used by date like Mar 2021 and bring them out in Sep 2020 at $15. Nobody would be the wiser. That is called smart business.

Everyone apparently is a business expert these days. I don't see the streets paved with gold. Maybe they are just starting from the back yards aye mate?

          • @netjock: I can't tell if you're attacking me or not, I never said I'm a business person but you don't need a degree to understand this…

      • +7

It’s on clearance because it’s Christmas stock. Just like all the Christmas stock is also,on clearance.

They are all gone at Coles Maroubra Junction when checked 10 mins ago.
There is an empty space confirming they were there.
Hopefully I can save some people a trip.

    • +2

thanks for that you saved me a trip

      Sorry, what's scary about this?

      • It is only scary if you missed the memo about meat being a carcinogen

        • lol. the studies used to make that claim didn't and couldn't prove anything causal. Watch this

          • @elli0t: Wasn't that what the cigarette companies kept denying for two decades.

Cancer council still saying elevated risk in 2019

YouTube is free for a reason. Cancer council won't let you post any trash.

            • @netjock: are you saying that the video on YouTube that I linked is incorrect? Can you please explain where he is wrong?

There's also recent meta-analysis saying the same thing:

@elli0t: I am not a GP and GP on the video is no expert. I was talking to a nurse who lost 16kg just eating like a vegetarian. They said nurses and doctors get very little nutrition training. They get trained a lot on how to diagnose the problem to your symptoms and fix that.

That is like you bringing your car into the me mechanic. They can diagnose and change the part in question. They can tell you how to drive but if you continue to drive damagingly it is your problem.

If Mr YouTube GP is so great why is he not published on Lancet or Cancer Council website? Also his "I have to disclose my conflict of interest…" Is like our "I am not racist but…" And meat eating is not "under siege", there is no tax, no legislation against it, in fact there is a lot of subsidies to eat it. He is just trying to get your emotions going.

If you really want to be true to yourself go to the hospital and do a survey of people's diets and their ailments. Questions answered. Don't let someone feed you the truth.

        crap load of oil

      • The l-cysteine is questionable. Usually made from hair and feathers. I think there is a microbial version but I’m not sure. Perhaps this is not actually vegan?

      • anything with vegetable oil in it is scary.

    • I'd eat it if only some were left.

    • Vegan Chicken Flavour (Coconut Oil, Maltodextrin, Natural Flavouring, Yeast Extract, Salt, Flavour Enhancer (Vegetarian L-Cysteine) Dehydrated Garlic, Rosemary),

Is this how they make stuff taste like chicken?

  • I had the plant based roast for Christmas dinner, I wasn't a fan. I much prefer the sanitarium one.

Any left in Vic (Melb) stores?

Any left in Vic (Melb) stores?

      Try going right…

      • I think there's only room for 1 jv here😉

  • Damn would have bought a stack of these, out in the two Coles near me in Perth. I had one for Xmas lunch, very tasty.

Ended up getting 10c gingerbread men and 10c choc Santa's while I was looking, so not a wasted trip.

  • Can I eat this without cooking? Like nutmeat?
