CUSTARD IS FOR LIFE, NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS, SAYS RSPCA (Royal Society for the Protection of Custard, Aight)
Every year, in line with our ancient traditions, milk and sugar is mixed with assorted flavours just before Christmas and sold at our beloved supermarkets. Over the following week, these delicious desserts are dumped in landfill with other Christmas favourites such as socks, underwear and remote control poos.
Do your bit this Christmas and adopt a custard. Before it's too late.
The listed prices get reduced as the expiry date approaches (rather than discounting individual products), so you could take a gamble and wait until the last day (gingerbread custard went back up in price from 10 cents once they realised there was fresher stock in the back rows). Butterscotch was 49c today. Vanilla Bean and Caramel ones were 99 cents (though listed as $1.49). The many types of brandy ones no one buys were 99 cents. And what happened to toffee this year? Keep in mind this Coles is small-ish.
I bought a variety of custards last Christmas for $0.10-$0.60
Froze the right in the cartons.
Trick is when you defrost them to shake for a minute or two
