  • We have this bloody travel router posted every week like it was Eneloop battery or something.

Meanwhile, in the past 10 years wherever I travelled there was WiFi - either I'm missing something obvious, or this is actually useless

    • You probably haven't been on a cruise?

Yep, it's usage has gone well over your head.

I have the tiny yellow one, and for my travels, it's been invaluable. Just a few of my use cases.

      1. Share a single hotel WiFi/Ethernet connection amongst many devices - plenty of hotels around the work (especially USA) that charge per device for WiFi. With one of these I only pay for one, and don't have to mess around with reconnecting devices when I leave and return to the hotel.

      2. Fixes crap hotel WiFi - connect this to the Ethernet port in the room, and I have excellent WiFi for my phone/iPad/laptop.

      3. Connect my Android TV - I often travel with my $72 Voda TV, and often the only way to connect it to hotel WiFi is through a device like this. The Android TV just can't handle the captive portals for login.

      4. VPN all the things - I've got mine setup with profiles for both PIA and my home VPN, and it applied to all my connected devices.

check post history.. 46 posts, half have been for GL.inet

  • Pretty good travel router
I got both the MT300v2 and this
While this is more powerful and have dual band
I do find I love the MT300v2 more just because for size is really tiny to carry

    • Yeah I want this, but my MT300v2 does everything I need and works great so can't justify it XD

  • do I need another?? hmmmm

  • Looks like the GL-B1300 is also on sale. $100.18 ( normally $125.23 )

  • what you need travel router for ? like one big hotspot?

    • Many reasons depends on your use case really

      Typical use case include

      • Connecting to VPN via public wifi for security purpose
      • Extending wifi range (eg hotel wifi only have signal near the corridor)
      • Create your own portable smart home (preset Chromecast and google home speaker to the portable wifi, and you can bring them everywhere to have a smart home)
  • Any guidance on how this will work on a non captive local network? It worked as a test from home on a ‘ standard setup’. But now Im on a boat and they have their own wifi intranet (read no public internet and internal DNS) it connects but devices can’t access this network.

  • Anybody know how to get their mango router to act as a VPN router behind another router? I can do it but it slows speeds down a crapload (probably due to the 2 DHCP servers going on). How do I disable the DHCP but still have VPN capability?
