My quick thoughts on these 2 games:

Links awakening: great top down zelda game set in a place that is not hyrule. It's a remaster of the original game boy series with updated graphics. There is a lot of backtracking so may not be for everyone. HLTB had it at around 14h. Took me around 17 hours with some side exploration. Did not 100%. Some frame drops when transitioning to new areas but not game breaking like other reviews have mentioned.

Mario maker 2: not a game I could get into but people get a lots of mileage with this game. Loads of level customisation and heaps of levels to play which are created by other players. I would say maybe give it a skip if you are not that big of a 2D platformer and not a big fan of creating levels. Mario maker will not magically make you love 2D platformer.

I might add (as someone who actually really enjoys MM2) that Mario Maker isn't as much about creating levels as it is playing levels. There are basically an unlimited amount of levels to play created and uploaded by others that this game is "worth it" on this alone without ever even having to create levels.

That said, I agree that it's not going to suddenly make someone love 2D Mario.

      • Don’t you also require a Nintendo subscription to play or make the levels?
