Can anyone comment on load times on the Nintendo switch vs the two?
Is there a noticeable difference ?

This is the Extreme edition, the only recommended one for consoles, mobile, dash cam as it supports 4k and 8k
This model will not just make everything smooth but will also save the battery and generate less heat.

Don't buy the Ultra edition, you can find 400GB easy and cheap but the writing speed is sh1t.
Just buy any Extreme edition and you are good, as bigger as you go, the faster writing speed it's.

I have a 128GB on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and 64GB on my GoPro, they have writing frequency way higher than consoles. My GoPro battery lasts 2h recording 1080p 60fps with this model.

thanks for this post. i was going to buy a go pro 8 my first action cam on boxing day but was reading about overheating issues and also video quality issues and i had some suspicion they were using cheap lower end sd cards.
        i will order the 128

I used to make the same mistake, then I learned the difference.

To work with videos the card needs to have "V" on it which stands for Video Speed Class.
Users only look at the size of it "ohhhh this one is only 128GB with a little bit more I can grab 400GB Ultra" good luck on that hahahaha

Basically, because the card has low writing speed the device has to process more to save the data. More processing means more heat and more battery consumption, and of course more risk of data getting corrupted.

SanDisk 128/256GB Extreme: 90MB/s write and 160MB/s read against there is no speed.
SanDisk 128/256GB Ultra: They use the term 100MB/s transfer speed which is for reading only, writing speed is not mentioned so an innocent will think that it is the card speed.

@ratoloko: picked up the card and rode bike for a good hour with the go pro on and no overheating so been working good for me so far

@BuDWiZe: @BuDWiZe good to know, to make the battery last longer disable wifi, voice commands, GPS, anything that you don't really need.
I have a GoPro 2018 running the firmware of a GoPro Hero 5 Black —- long history —- and with the current 64GB Extreme I can record up to 2h :)

              • +1

@ratoloko: yes i walk around wifi disabled, auto turned off GPS and voice and didnt even run out of first battery yesterday using slow mo 240 fps and 2.7k 60p modes

      • The ultra is fine for the nintendo switch, I use it and noticed no difference swapping between it and the samsung evo+.

        • Thanks guys picked up the 128gb for the new switch under the Christmas tree, will come in handy this year.

The fast speed is bottlenecked by the slow card reader on the Switch.

Slow and fast cards have been benchmarked for the Switch and they make no discernable difference. Better to buy a cheaper one with more capacity than more speed.

    The 400gb seems fairly slow.

  • Any issues with Blackvue dashcams?

    • It will work fine, but these are not endurance cards, so will need changing more frequently.

      • What are 'endurance' cards?

        • I don't know how much is marketing hype and how much is real. But since dashcams and webcams write over the same memory areas much more frequently, than a card used in a camera or phone, generally cards in Dashcams/webcams fail quicker due to the number of cycles in shorter time frames.

Most manufacturers have high endurance cards that are designed for dashcams/webcams and they claim much longer life spans when used in these devices.

          For Sandisk see:
          https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/memory-cards/sandis…
          For Samsung see:
          https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/pro-endurance-micr…

Also buy the biggest card your camera will take, then it will be longer before the same memory area gets used again making the card last longer.

I have the SanDisk Extreme 128GB in my switch and my digital camera (RX100) and it's been perfect in both situations. Highly recommended, and in my use more than enough space.

Or if you are near an OfficeWorks and don't want to wait for shipping, price beat it for further 5% off (or call them and price beat over the phone):

Done and Ordered 4. They said normally maximum of 3 for price beat, but ok'd 4 due to Christmas.

    • The store refused to price match because the delivery time is January. Annoying. Will give the business to online shop

      • I ordered over the phone for store pickup, no problems when I ordered.

    • Do they price match amazon prime member pricing (ie free shipping? Or add shipping?

      • Shipping over $39 is free for everyone, so that should only be an issue if you are ordering the Extreme and only getting 1. If so they are supposed to add the shipping cost to the price beat.

  • Thanks OP. Was deciding between 128 vs 256 GB but finally purchased 128GB as price for 256GB was more than double.

  • Thanks mate. Just when I've started to struggle with 200gb card on my switch :)

    • Isn't most of the games around 10 Gb? Or you have more than 20 games?
I will buy Nintendo switch later. Just tryping to get which card I will need.

  • How is this Sandisk Extreme vs the Samsung EVO Plus ?

    • +1

      Extreme has faster read speed.

  • Nice find OP! Don't forget cash rewards :D

  • I'd like to know if these Ultra's work with Blackvue DR750S-2ch? Or is it the Extreme that is ok?

  • +1

    Link says it's expired.

    • Yeah I just found this and it's now expired

      • Deal's back on and now can get extra $1 cash back with cash rewards.
