It’s not as cheap as it was earlier but still cheapest at this moment.

The HS100 allows you to create schedules to automatically power on or off your home electronics and appliances at anytime. You can create a schedule for each device any day of the week, or customize it by a specific time in a day.

Keep energy bills low by effectively managing devices that use the most power. Scheduling allows you to prevent power-hungry devices from being left on longer than needed.

Have your devices run on your schedule, even when you’re not there.

30/12 Mod: Available again. Thanks Xyzzy

  • Cheap but remember it's the HS110 that can monitor your power usage… i got another one at Bunnings a few days ago for $39 not on sale.

    • +3

      can monitor your power usage

      Not worth paying >$20 more…

      • Ability to monitor energy usage can lead to ongoing cost savings on your electricity bill so it's worth it in my opinion.

        • +4

What sort of devices are you running through this device that you consider savings are feasible? The device itself will draw constant power just to stay on - and having regard to the consumption figures I get from my solar system - the biggest offenders are aircons, oven, hot water, and heating element in dishwasher. Almost nothing else really matters for consumption in comparison.

          • @kipps: Read my reply to freesteakknives further down the page.

          • @kipps: You can use it to monitor the cost of running your Xmas tree lights.

I'd never use it and probably neither would most other people.

    • Not cheap at all.
Aldi had superior power monitoring ones for $10, and unlike the TPLink HS110, doesn't drop power occasionally causing attached devices to shutdown or restart.

      • How are the Aldi ones superior?

      • +5

i have 8 of these and its never dropped power?
Is this a common problem as ive never had issues.

      • +7

Never had any of mine drop power. Out of all my smart plugs, my TP-Link ones are the most reliable.

  • The HS110 is $26.90 on Amazon at the moment.

    • Reviews for the TP-Link smart plug leave me concerned with it for forgetting wifi connection details if it gets turned off at the wall or moved to another socket.

      • I'm running these in my house with no issues so far.

        • Can you confirm if they need reconfiguring if they lose power, which is easy to happen if there's a black out, they are switched off or moved to another socket?

          • @chyawala: I set mine up near my router to test them first then move them to the relevant location and have had no issues or need for reconfig. I've also switched them off at the socket and they resume as normal when switched back on.

    • I put the HS110 on the PC to see what the consumption was. Even when switched off it's still sucking 5W ?!?! I'm assuming that some of this is for the HS110 itself but that's the same power consumption as my Xmas lights.

I now switch off at the wall which is probably a better way to save money than buying a smart plug.

      • I wouldn't use them on every socket/appliance. I now have my pool pump on a dynamic schedule which is an ongoing cost saving. The HS110 currently costs me $10.95 per year to run however I'm saving $10-$15 per month on electricity costs for the pool pump compared to before I started using it. YMMV.

        • +1

That's a good use. After purchase I realized that I don't really have anything that suits having a smart plug (Ozbargain regret) so I've on sold.

  • Might wanna credit doweyy for bringing this to your attention?

    • +1

Thanks Miq to bringing it to my attention now.

    • TP Link use Kasa, Jinvoo use Tuya both will do the same thing. Just depends on your preference of ecosystem.

  • Can I use this as WIFI range extender for 2.4G?

    • +1

This is not a wifi range extender.

  • Bunnings has the HS100 for $29 if you can find them. My local only had the HS110 for $39.

  • I've bought 4x of the aldi versions and 3x of them had died just over a yr. Hows the life span on these? Is someone able to comment pls?

    • I've had 4 for almost 3 years. Never had a problem with them. They are the most reliable of all my IOT devices (LIFX need a reboot once per month or so, Sonofs get sticky relays sometimes and are far less robust)

  • My one makes a high pitched buzzing sound when it is switched on. Has anyone else found that happen with theirs?

  • +1
  • How do these go on a standard double-socket, space-wise? Could you fit two of them side-by-side?

    • +1

Unfortunately no. I've got like 5 of these and have to use additional adapters or just space them out on a powerboard.

However you can fit your standard plug right next to each of them though. It's a snug fit but it works for my powerboards (I've got Belkins).

They've been super reliable for me (I've also go Tuya / Broadlink, Xiaomi and some other unknown brand) and works well with both Google Home and Alexa (and yes I've got both too lol).

  • +1

I have the one with power monitoring and absolutely love it. I have it connected to my Christmas lights and scheduled it to turn on at Sunset and turnoff at 11 PM each night, it has never failed and I can’t be happier.

I don’t quite use the monitoring feature so if you are looking for a smart switch this is a good one.

  • Are these too overweight to fit it into a single power socket and let the other socket sit comfortably? Ta.

    • +1

For me it was too big and took up over the two power points. I got around this by plugging them into a powerboard/surge protector where the spacing between outlets is a bit larger.

  • Can this be controlled via google home to remotely switch on or off?

  • Merged from TP-Link Smart Plug HS100 for $18.90 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $39 Spend) @ Amazon AU

Price on these has dropped back to $18.90 as per this expired deal from AbhiC https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/507629

TP-Link Smart Plug, No Hub Required, Wi-Fi, Control Your Devices from Anywhere,Works with Alexa and Google Assistant

Control devices connected to the Smart Plug wherever you have Internet using the free Kasa app on your smartphone.

Use Away-Mode to turn devices on and off at different times to give the appearance that someone is home while you are away Easy to use and install. Just plug a device into the Smart Plug and connect to your Wi-Fi network.

    • Anyone know if it work with tuya? Thanks

      • +2

Nope. Runs on their own infrastructure. That said, they're far better plugs than the Tuya ones (but very bulky)

        • +1

          Connects to Google Home however

    • -2

Brilliant has the smallest form factor in smart plug range.

      • Lenovo also have a compact one from memory (also running on Tuya as far as I can tell).

    • Bought 6. Thanks, OP.

    • Can these be controlled by Amazon Alexa app on a timer/ routine, remotely, etc?, or do you need to use their own app?

      • They can be controlled by Alexa - not sure about routines/timers though.

  • You can get heaps cheaper with a multibuy

  • -1

    Fake news

    • I'd say the TP-Link is better. That one's from an unknown (with potentially no Australian Safety certification), only a 1 year warranty vs 3 years on the TP-Link and is more expensive.

      • Also comes with several USB ports though.

  • seen cheaper for lowest end smart plug

  • The Mirabella Genio ones which you get in a 2 pack from Costco are still slightly cheaper - $33 for a 2 pack. Single outlet + USB, no power monitoring.
