Does Santa Wrap Your Christmas Presents?

My wife and I are celebrating our first Christmas as parents and have been discussing how Santa is going to leave presents for our little one.
When i was young, I had a sack that Santa filled with presents.
For my wife, Santa wrapped them and left them under the tree.
We understand that she is too young to understand this concept at the moment, but we cannot agree regardless.
I'd love to hear what you do in your house, what you would do or how things went down when you were a child.

So, does Santa wrap presents?

No, that's ridiculous. He puts them in the sack that you left out.

Yes, funny though, his handwriting on the presents is similar to mum/dads.

If you and your partner are waiting for Santa to wrap your presents, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Yes, thank you I am aware of this. Hence why I'm writing this from the perspective of a new parents…

Your 1 year old isn't going to know or care. (or, he /she will be more interested in the wrapping than the actual gift)
Don't bother unless you want to put on a show for others.

In case no one has told you, it wasn't Santa.

My parents wrapped them and left them under the tree. Actually ripping the wrapping off(and having those few moments of suspense) was part of the fun.

My siblings and I were aware that the presents were from out parents. Never had Santa involved.

And Santa's sad to hear that…

Ease back on the lines of coke this festive season. It will clear your head and allow you to make easy parenting decisions

But then I'd have to face reality

      • But you already have faced reality, you are now a parent?

Congratulations that your child has survived for a year, I'm sure you are great loving parents and wish you all the best but as someone already said the child is too young to appreciate the extra effort of gift wrapping maybe in a few years they will

We’re enjoying our first Christmas with Bub to, I certainly am a believer in wrapping. Best part of Christmas morning for me was the surprise element and ripping through all the paper.

    Stockings, not sacks
Presents under the tree are from mum n dad

    • Presents under the tree are from mum n dad

This is the latest thing with parents having to take credit for buying the presents. Presents are from Mum and dad not Santa. Stupid if you ask me.

      • "Having" to take credit? Not really, just making sure the distinction is there. Was the same thing ~30yrs ago when I was a kid, we knew who was responsible for what

Wrap them and put them in a sack? Everyone wins?
Also..yeah opening the wrapping adds to the Xmas fun.

    Our wrapping style is determined by age;
    - 1 year olds can’t unwrap and don’t get the idea of things. Maybe do a few for funnsies/insta.
    - 2-4 year olds get bored after unwrapping the first few gifts, so we wrap their main gifts up in a way that is easy for them to open, and put the rest in a sack or stocking. (Favourite gift of the 3y/o last year was her very own, wrapped punnet of blueberries!)
    - 5-10 year olds are all-in on the unwrapping biz. Go nuts!
    - Any kids older than that lose a little of the Christmas ‘magic’ and are happy with a few nicely wrapped larger (aka more expensive!) gifts.
They do grow up super fast though, so make the most of those holiday memories while you still can!

    • Great plan

  • we always did unwrapped in the stocking

  • Santa wrapped one present for each of us and the rest came from the family. No sacks involved :)

  • Santa's presents were in a different wrapping to mum and dad. Both were in the stocking or right below if too big.

  • You got it all wrong, Santa doesn't wrap.
He's just the Uber of Xmas. Think of the elves!

    • Came here to say this - shocked no one had earlier!

  • Ummm santa ain't got time to wrap all the presents… it's obviously done by elves.

My mum always had two lots of wrapping paper - one for our presents and a hidden roll for ones from santa.

Presents from santa were left in a sack by our bed.

There has been loads of discussion about this in my due date group - the major consenus there is that santa should bring smaller presents and mum and dad the bigger ones (ie more expensive ones). Basically those less fortunate query why santa doesnt love them as much when they dont get the same expensive gifts :(

  • Yep. Just remember that Santa uses his own wrapping paper, so obviously presents from parents will be different from the special wrapping paper that Santa uses..

  • When I was growing up, our presents were wrapped and put in a pillow case at the end of the bed.

For our children, each had a small stocking filled with wrapped chocolate coins and socks/small things, and the stocking went under the tree with the other wrapped presents. Everything was from Santa, but we never made a big deal about it, and none of them were traumatised when they found out he wasn't real.

  • I'm with the presents in a pillowcase age group. It was great getting one good present and a bag full of cheap stuff! Presents were wrapped for birthdays only.

  • Santa is not real. He does have a nice beard tho white and fluffy.

Growing up I always had wrapped presents under the tree from Mum and Dad, and Santa left some small unwrapped gifts in my stocking. We do the same with our kids now. I feel like this is the best of both worlds, and while we take credit for the big presents under the tree my kids get the most excited about seeing what Santa brought.
