Parking Fine for Blocking a Driveway - Seems Unfair

Hi everyone, I have been given a fine for blocking a driveway which I think is marginal and is unfair.

Background:

The station is in North West where public transport is an issue and the closest station has parking issues.

I don't think I was blocking the drive way and had reasonable access.

Any views/comments is appreciated!

  • Put yourself in the homeowners shoes.. Chances are this constantly happens to them so naturally there going to be pissed off.. Imagine reversing your car from your driveway but constantly having to be on the lookout for someone partially blocking your driveway.. Even worse, having a tow bar sticking out into your driveway that (If in a hurry) you could easily not notice and damage the side of your car as you reverse out.

  • No Sympathy cards here i'm afraid mate.
If you Park like that there what's your parking like everywhere else…

Sorry mate would like to support ya,being Xmas and all…

  • OP's clearly parked a good distance outside out of the lines AND was obviously infringing on someones driveway.

Why would you then post evidence of this on a massive website for the whole country to laugh and point ???

Nice pics of your car blocking the driveway.

  • That is way over the line.

Well done sharing your license plate.

  • I never do this to anyone because it drives me bonkers when people do it to me.

    Your fine is warranted

  • Yes he should be fined but $268 is not warrented. We already have probably highest fines and most traffic cameras in the developed world. Stop with the thinking that the revenue raisers deserve this money.

  • Sorry man ! You have parked incorrectly

  • Seriously, this is dead giveaway. No one like somebody block their driveway.. I mean nobody unless you hardly use the driveway.

  • wow, terrible park.

The home owner would have real trouble if they needed to turn left our of their driveway.

    What a jerk park

  • Exactly the same thing happens at leppington, and especially in holsworthy, in holsworthy, its so packed that people park on the grass (not on the road, or footpath) and get fined for parking on "nature strip"

  • Dinesh, pay the fine, learn from the mistake done and encourage other not to do. If you can't change the driving habits then keep $500 a year aside to pay fine. We all have to pay tome to time. It was clearly out of the parking line.

  • LOL

The lines are on the road because people have blocked driveways in the past. OP deserves it.

If you're going to bring up whether wheels or whole body should be in the lines then find me any parking spot where the lines have been drawn for the wheels only.

Imagine trying to reverse out of that driveway in the direction of the car. You can't.

  • You are in the wrong but I somewhat feel for you simply because this happens so much and nothing is ever done about it.

Meanwhile at mum's apartment one of the tradie neighbours used to park halfway in front of her garage because she doesn't drive, which stopped me parking when visiting. Finally left a note asking him to stop, so now for the past month he leaves traffic cones at the side of the road infront of the block so no one takes 'his' spot.

    • Move the cones.

    • I get annoyed by people like this who place cones on public roads. Just because the 'spot' is in front of your house, it doesn't mean its your parking. That is what the garage is for. Public roads are for everyone. Overnight parking may be borderline justifiable. But putting cones in daytime is just being a self-entitled (profanity).

  • OP is selfish

  • just be grateful your inconsiderately parked vehicle wasnt towed at your expense as well. move on.

  • That park is a dick move. I couldn't imagine being that home owner, it'd be infuriating.

  • If there was a car on the opposite side of the road too, you just made it very hard for a person to turn left out of that driveway. Deserve the fine lol

  • 2 days late, but I felt it necessary to come tell OP… you parked like a dick, the fact you even think this is okay just blows me away. I'm glad you were fined.

  • OP should be fined.

Camry is too big for OP.

OP should buy and drive the shortest car available like a smart fortwo.

  • Pretty sure OP got the gist of this and knows now that he is in the wrong, do give him a break. This thread is now bordering on online bullying.

OP, I suspect you got what you needed. You may want to consider closing this thread to save yourself some heartache and name calling.

    Yeah that's f**ked.
It's not preventing the driveway from being used.

  • I have been a long time reader of this forums but just recently signed up. Main reason was to have a laugh at threads like these. Majority of threads like these ask for opinions but only acknowledge the opinions that they want to hear.

You did the wrong, cop it on the chin and pay the fine. I have a good feeling you won't learn your lesson and do another traffic offence based on your reaction to the comments.

  • This sh!t happens at my place very frequently. I've no sympathy for you. Pay the fine and (hopefully) learn not to interfere with others' access to their property.

  • We use to live close to the station and had people constantly park across our driveway where on few occasions I couldn’t take my car out to go to work…long story short they should have burnt your car tot the ground.

    • Except there's clearly enough room to get past so the person would have been able to get in/out.

Unpopular opinion but the park looks fine to me.

I’m also a video ref in the NRL.

  • Yeah nah mate I report people like you to the council because you're a pain in the ass for people who live on the street. Have gotten a few tickets dished out to people who think they can just park wherever they want because 'well I need to get to work!'.

  • OP has ghosted a long time ago. You all made him suicidal. And on Christmas. For shame.

  • Just buy a Renault Twizy, it will fit-in to that space. You'll have a high returns from fine savings.

  • Dude your car's ass is hanging way over the parking boundary. What were you expecting?

  • I know its super popular on here to smash anyone who posts about any kind of road related fine (I often wonder if the authorities are behind this as it certainly doesn't reflect conversations with people on this subject in the real world), but I'm with the OP. If the photos are accurate the car is not blocking the driveway and the fine is extremely harsh. Revenue raising, pure and simple. But that's how it increasingly goes.

If it was my driveway I wouldn't have a problem with it. Not ideal but easily negotiated.

OP took a risk in parking so close and it didn't pay off. I do sympathise though as its very harsh.

Time for Ozbargain the road and traffic gestapo to get negging!

  • People park like this and even worse in front of my place all the time, I am glad you were fined.

  • Looks like OP got the answer. Thread closed.
