    This does seem very cheap!
Found this has some sort of review on it:
    https://www.pressreader.com/australia/techlife-australia/201…

    • Thanks. Yeah I'll stick to brand names. This is certainly faster than spinning HDD but by a factor of 2-4 at most, not 10 or more.

      • +2

Main advantage of SSD is seek times.. like if you are reading or writing a lot of small files.

That plus lighter and smaller physically.

And you aren’t going to get 10 times faster speeds since it’s limited by USB 3

  • +17

Everything with 'kogan' on it fails rather quickly, would you trust you valuable data on a kogan drive?

    • +1

      ya i wouldnt
      who cares about warrantry

  • +30

Not happy they way we treat newbies, they have to explicitly ask to be nice, what kind of community we are?
+1 for your post, seems like a good deal to me, we are not sales person and are not supposed to provide whole lot of data around the deal, it’s up to individual to make a decision, we just post the opportunity.

    Thanks OP, good work

    • +9

Actually, I think we are quite welcoming to newbies… in fact posting guidelines explicitly state no need/not to say OP is new.

    • +1

Because if they don't post the deal in the proper format, the post may he removed or heavily edited. Not to mention comment snark.

But if you tell everyone you're new, they are more lenient and constructive with their criticism.

    • +3

Personally I don't know why they have to say it, agree with you that it's all on merit of the deal and the opportunity given.
Also, maybe newbies are too new to notice, but there's a prominent "L" next to their name when they post for the first time, so I'm sure people will give slack just seeing that…

    • +1

The attitudes on this board are absolutely awful. When I've complained I've been gaslit by admins who referred me to mental health hotlines.

I've posted deals where on the same thread I've had one person tell me that posting a link to a review was unwelcome because cheap network switches are all the same, while another moaned about the review not being detailed enough. The admins do sweet FA about this. The anonymous downvoting doesn't help either. Nothing changes.

I'm here because a few times a year I actually score a decent bargain. Every time I share one I'm reminded by abuse not to bother until stupid me, I find a good deal and want to share it again.

As for good natured self-deprecation….well just look at how my joke was received below.

    • +1

I've literally never seen someone attacked here.

The only reason that's said is due to a mix of other communities and it just "being a thing" the same way warning you're posting from mobile on a reddit post is regardless of if it's obvious.

      • -2

I've literally never seen someone attacked here.

        Open your eyes.

      • +3

Some people are too delicate and think a disagreement or different opinion is an attack!

  • If only it was a 1TB

    • +2

You want a 1TB portable SSD for $56? Good luck with that

      • +1

nah I wouldn’t expect it at this price but if they made a 1tb version I would guess that it would be around $115 on sale because each 250gb is a $20 difference as the 250gb drive $55 and 500gb $75. So if I use a 25% off voucher (SUNSHINE) on the 1tb for $115 it would be $92 which would be very cheap for a Portable SSD.

      In your dreams sunshine

  • +1

What brand ssd is in these? Anyone know?

    • -2

      Kogan. Duh. ;-)

      • +1

Seems you probably have NI about internal SSDs pal 😣

          • -5

@syousef: It wouldn't be Ozbargain if there wasn't bullying and down-voting, right?

I made a joke. I even clarified. This is a Kogan SSD. That is absolutely the brand you're looking at. None of that matters huh?

            Thanks for the chuckle guys.

Don’t forget to cancel your Kogan first trial!!!! My trial finished today and was charged $99 (!!!) . Terms and conditions state that they won’t refund anything even if you cancel :( now I’m stuck with a Kogan membership but I don’t even buy anything from them. Ouch.

    • +10

Just tell them if they don't want to refund you'll refer it to the ACCC.

      https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/report-a…

It's easier and cheaper for them to just refund than fiddle around with this kind of stuff.

EDIT: I think each state has their own body, e.g. WA has this http://forms.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumer-protection/complain…
Just search for your state and "consumer protection".

    • +7

Yup, that's rough. Wifey had to remind me to cancel just before the free trial expirey, bless her nagging little soul.

    • +3

That’s crazy, even amazon prime is cheaper yearly and they come with prime video!

      • +1

And twitch prime. Think there's a few other services in it to. O

    • +1

I couldn't even start a Kogan First trial as it said during checkout that my post code is unsupported.

      • +3

You may have dodged a bullet.

  • Haha Kogan…

  • +11

    Your data might be Kogone.

    • Someone got the time to make a trash icon with a big red "K" on it?

  • +3

This ultra fast SSD is hardly fast (400MB/s).

    • +4

plenty fast for a usb device

  • +3

Tempted because it's cheap, then put off because it's Kogan.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just stacked with the offer.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/500313
    2 for $92 delivered

  • +3

Why WD you risk it to save $6.
Crucial reliability is well worth paying for.

    • Nicely done, but if you'd snuck Seagate in there I'd be much more impressed.

  • What reskin is this of

  • +3

This would be just some generic mSATA drive in an SSD enclosure.

  • Sold out by the looks.

  • +1

code works with the 250GB too (25% off)

  • +4

I have a lot of Kogan things over the years, a storage device isn't one of them I would ever have! I value my data too much.

    • -1

This is for that mate of yours that you know is a dhead and douche bag no matter what you say or do for them.

Met my first real one few years ago and have been stuck living with him.

First month he gives me some used shirt and hat as a gift all disgusting not even washed probably sweated in it or found on the street somewhere.. I say thanks and figure he is maybe a bit slow in the head or mentally ill but nope he just loves giving useless or really low quality presents and passing them off as big things and life savers so now every time I see a deal like this I think of him.

Gave him a lot in return as good will but he has never returned the favour just keeps filling my already small room with crap.

Best present he got me was some usb hand warmer thing which I could see myself using maybe in winter at its coldest if it started snowing inside but honestly it is just taking up very limited space.

Dude is a moron and terrible deals like this are meant for him even though comparatively this deal is not bad probably for his low standards.

Nice guy just can't reciprocate on my level but tries with low effort.. Such is life what can you do.

"I'll trade your pc for my $15 wish.com watch"

      • his words not mine
      • +1

        He hurt you yeah

      • and have been stuck living with him.

Unless you guys got married, I don't see how you're stuck living with him and even then, married people separate all the time :)

Gave him a lot in return as good

If they're such a dbag, why are you giving them stuff?

        • Because I was giving him the benefit of the doubt thought I could sway him but people don't change what you see is what you get.. I know that for certain now.

Usually give people benefit of the doubt I thought he might return the favour but he is just all air all talk I think so it was a costly answer but I know the answer for certain now and for me that was most important.

          • @AlienC:

Because I was giving him the benefit of the doubt

Fair enough, well now you know what they're like. Time to move on.

            • @JimmyF: Yep only problem is it takes me a long time to move on.. One of my many annoying weaknesses.

  • I wouldn't gamble on these drives unless it was for work or a friend that doesn't stop pestering you.

Kogan is synonymous with barely above aliexpress quality if not on the same level and aliexpress is pretty low on the bar unless you can find some local handmade electronics shop that ships to Australia lol then that would probably win the deal.

I have found out that the really grey area deals that may or may not work are for you to recommend to a special type of people or cause or if you really hate society and people.

  • 250gb still available for $41 + delivery.

    • Now $55
Funnily enough says lowest price ever under it

      • Still comes to $41 after applying the SUNSHINE 25% off discount coupon + extra for delivery depending on postcode or if you have jumped into Kogan's First.

Most likely would have grabbed a 500gb for $56 but missed that deal.

Would be happy to pay up to $80 for a Samsung/SanDisk/WD external usb C 250gb+ ssd, but not $49 delivered for me for this random Kogan unknown brand to trust your data on.

Have bought a few Kogan Branded items, mainly their power banks that I patiently waited to read many reviews and feedback for before buying, and now one of their famous DC pedestal fans that works well and feels solid, but as it's a recently updated ( could be made slightly cheaper with the small but handy added new feature the speed memory which would be cheap to implement ). From memory the older model was a re-bagged Kambrook, this one is a slightly cut down version of the Hyundai with half the speeds, remote that only cycles speed up, and slightly lower hight. Time will tell if durable and solid :-)
