For tv's, staticice isn't the best place to get a comparison - usually need to check all the regular retailers to see who is running what promotion and when eg jb hifi, videopro, good guys, harvey norman, myer, djs etc, and then there's the bargaining pressure you can often apply on top of that depending on the type of promotion, sales rep mood on the day and your own bargaining prowess. Often ebay itself can provide a good indication of decent online price.
Funnily enough, just noticed that this particular deal was from videopro, and having a quick squizz online at the retailer's sites, this is a fairly decent price and around $200 less than most.
Having said that, Billy Guyatts and Price Pirate have this tv for $2100 and $2097 respectively so I don't imagine it would be too hard to find a JB or DJs sales rep who with some haggling wouldn't match videopro's price, especially if you go for an extended warranty…
good point on shopping this - shipping/transport is still an issue as it's huge. I belive sony has a 12 mth warranty although I cant see the detail on warranty in the offer.
Was going to say "It's on ebay - Anything on ebay is a good price" (LOL) but now that I see it's videopro, I'll look elsewhere - been ripped off by their ebay offerings before.
apparently this tv has brightness issues? blacks not black enough.

@sim36 You would be better off looking at a Panasonic Plasma if you are worried about 'blacks'. Unfortunatley LCD/LED still have not got the best blacks. Close but Plasma is just a tad better.
Meh, This exact model was $1999 at JB hifi, before any pricing negotiations. Original price $2999. This is not a big special, its just its new normal price. The good thing is the 3D IR sensor is built into the TV rather than a separate ninteno wii style sensor bar. This TV is cheaper than originally because It is being replaced by a "Smart TV" of similar specifications.
this has smart capability? such as web browser youtube and such - maybe a firmware upgrade would be in order? idunno.

A Smart TV has the web browser, youtuve etc. This SONY doesnt have that.

@kxy1983s Incorrect. The KDL55EX720 certainly DOES have a browser, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, MoshCam etc

No, glasses not included. But you can buy one for $74.00 on line
This is a current model smarttv.. Check Sony website….the previous model without 3d is about 1300 somewhere in oz bargain
