    Are these legal to use on Victorian footpaths or roads?

    • +3

      You get a neg for aksin' that question 'round here, boy!

    • Yes it’s a freakin toy

  • +7

    8KM per charge……it will ride on me when I commute to the office.

  • In Vic, max speed is 10km/hr. These go 8km/hr in mode 1.
    So if you stay in mode 1…. should be fine ?

      Looks like a toy so yep. Cops prob laugh at you for riding a kids scooter instead of fining you.

  • Have to be conscious of weight too I think the distances are measured at a certain temperature incline and weight is flat all the way/80kg or something. I was looking at the basic Xiaomi one but even that would be borderline for my usage so will likely get the pro with a larger battery

  • I bought a kick scooter recently. It's lightweight, solid as a rock, and a blast to use. Thinking about taking it overseas actually.

    • What did you get and how much?

      • Micro Sprite, ~$140 from David Jones of all places. Cheapest I've seen the Sprite in Australia. Obviously not the cheapest brand of scooter out there, but you get what you pay for; Swiss made, 2 year warranty. Weighs only 2 and a bit kgs, supports 100kg.

    New South Wales road rules currently stipulate that “powered foot scooters…cannot be registered and can only be used on private land [6].” As such, it is illegal to ride an electric scooter anywhere in New South Wales, other than on private property.

      Nah, been using one for 8 months now. No troubles. Spotted several police on the road aswell. Just drive safely and wear helmet ul be fine :)

  • Summary of Electric Scooter Laws in Australia by state:

    https://dashpev.com.au/is-it-legal-to-ride-an-electric-scoot…

    So as a Western Australianer:

    "Currently, Western Australian laws stipulate that electric scooters must travel at 10km/h or less, and “must not be used on footpaths and paths designed for shared use by pedestrians and bicycles.” Any unlicensed electric scooters may only be used on private property"

    Only way to use it outside of private property is to ride a scooter that travels slower than 10km/h on a road with cars that drives significantly faster

    • So how about the paths not designed to be shared with bicycles?

      • Then they become footpaths?

        • I was reading that as both footpaths and paths being designed for shared use.

          As opposed to footpaths OR paths for shared use..

          Are you technically allowed to even use push scooters on pedestrian only paths?

  • coming up as $299 for me.

    • There's a big blue box above the title.

      • +3

        Sorry, had my stevie wonder glasses on!

  • No stock in WA? $29.95 shipping unless it's free tomorrow…

  • Why shouldn't you be able to use one on a bicycle track??… We just love our traffic jams!

    Based on the laws above, this has no purpose in Metro Australia.

  • Anyone have any reviews or work out if this is the same as a well known unit?

  • QPS will bend you over hard. I should know…

    • -1

      They are legal in qld. What are you on about?

      • -1

        Somebody's been living under a rock

      • No… they aren't, what I'm on about is:

        Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995
        scooter means a device that—
        (a) has 2 or more wheels and a footboard supported by the
        wheels; and
        (b) is steered by handlebars; and
        (c) is designed to be used by a single person; and
        (d) is propelled by any 1 or more of the following—
        (i) gravity;
        (ii) the user pushing 1 foot against the ground;
        (iii) an electric motor or motors; and
        (e) if it is fitted with an electric motor or motors (whether
        the motor or motors are part of, or attached to, the
        device), complies with the following requirements—
        (i) its maker certifies (either by means of a plate
        attached to the motor or each motor, or by means
        of engraving on the motor or each motor) the
        ungoverned power output of the motor, or each
        motor;
        (ii) the maximum power output of the motor, or the
        combined maximum power output of the motors, is
        not more than 200 watts;
        (iii) when propelled only by the motor or motors, the
        scooter is not capable of going faster than 10 km/h
        on level ground.

        Unfortunately it's capable of going faster than 10km/h on level ground…

        • That's not the applicable law. If you look at mobility on TMR there is no wattage limit, only speed.

  • Range and speed looks terrible.

    • Looks alright for small runs. Like when I pickup Dim Sims from the Chinese 500m down the road. I could walk, but then I get cold dim Sims!

  • Thanks OP, $200 now, the range is 12KM, speed 24KM/H according to the user manual technical specifications, tires are non-inflatable, has speed limiting and is 200 Watts which would make it street legal in any Victoria, see section "242 Travelling in or on a wheeled recreational device or toy on a footpath or shared path" at legislation.vic.gov.au
