Sunbeam Cafe Series 2-Slice Toaster TA9200 $50 (RRP $149) @ David Jones

60

Heavy duty looking 2 slice toaster. Has crumpet setting & fairly wide slots.

I have the 4 slice version of this and while it's lasted and works well, it's a bit weak (could just be something to do with my houses power).

Lots of good toasters and kettles & some other stuff worth looking through the Black Friday listings. Philips Sonicare brush head cheap, but Click & Collect only.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2019

  • I agree with OP about the 4 slice version of this being a bit weak.

Actually its in everyones house power limits.

Appliances like Toasters use up to 2400watts. So a 4 slice Toaster uses the same power as a 2 slice toaster, so will always be slower at toasting 4 slices. Sort of you can toast two lots twice in a 2 slice toaster, thus giving 4 slices, in about same time as a 4 slice toaster.

Now a real electrical engineer probably can explain more scientifically the issue, but in effect that's it

    • +1

completely wrong. The 2 slice is rated at 1200w and 4 slice 2400w.

      • You know you are right, guess for years I had been conned by that explanation. Doh

        Thanks

        • maybe that explanation holds true for some toasters? I doubt it though because it'd be annoying if for a given setting the browning/burning of the toast was dependent on how many slices you were cooking.

      • Ah, that explains why it's no better when only using half the toaster then.

Quite a few years ago I went on a hunt for a better toaster - all of them seem to use the same tech - strips that heat up. There was one exception (that I found) a Krups (I think) one that had a bar like a bar radiator, but it was nearly $300 (from memory).

  • Looks like the David Jones website is down; i'm getting Error.

    Edit: we're back!
