    Have not got them yet but I found out by calling Netgear you plug a power board in to it which was my biggest issue with these previously. It filters the signal out and passes the power though.

    • Good to know. I didn't realise you could get these which allowed you to plug a powerboard into them.

  • Real world performance isnt even close to 200mb/s, I bought it to replace my Netgear N network for my HTPC/PS3/360 but speedwise it was only marginally better.

    • I read that and assumed it was no where near 200 but the latency was the real issue with video etc. Wireless just drops for a second and movies stutter. I have wireless N and it is great but just very now and then it is a pain.

      • I had more luck with WirelessN with HD video (1080i TV streams), I read somethere if you have c-bus it can greatly affect its performance.

    Where is the $58 deal similar to last time? Not enough of a bargain to consider for me. Waiting patiently.

    • No power pass through for $58.00

        Oh is that what you were talking about up higher, hmmm still with others $100 its not a massive bargain.

    Hope that is a stock photo and the stock at Harris comes with an Aussie plug and socket.

  • Picture looks like US power outlet. Is this just a picture for display purposes or is that what they are shipping?

  • Being HT of course is is Aussie and the $58.00 model does not have the pass through so it hogs the whole power point. I looked in to the models. That is difference! You have to do a tiny bit of research before posting.

  • Wish they had 2 ethernet ports and worked in Surge Boards :(

    • good point but the power boards plugs in to it, it does not plug in to the power board. It passes power through to the board.

      • yer but then that leaves your stuff open to something, it will just run over the ethernet cable to your stuff rather then getting stoped at the surge board

  • i want the $58 model

    • No power pass through, see comments and picture

    question on how this works

    i have a router
    do i plug my router (lan cable?) into this device
    then with the other one plug it close to my comp and i can get better wireless reception?

    or do i need to buy another router (one fo there powerline specific one?)

    • +1

      You plug one into a power outlet new your router and then connect it via ethernet cable to your router. The you plug the second one near your computer and you connect another ethernet cable from the device to you computer. Nothing with Wifi at all.

      • and you plug the power board in to the netgear device. Called HT as I nearly canned the order but they said no issue with plugging in boards in to the device as shown in the quick specs diagram from netgear.

      I have played with these before and can confirm a few things

      I have a modem, 1 router and a switch.

      config 1: cable only
      modem -> Switch Eth 1 -> PC1
      Swtich Eth 2 -> EoP
      then at the backroom 15m away power outlet -> EoP -> PC2

      Config 2: cable and WIFI
      WIFI modem with 4 ports (front room)
      -> Eth 1 -> Desktop
      -> Eth 2 -> EoP
      -> WIFI to laptop 1

      backroom -> EoP -> WIFI router -> Laptop 2

      so in effect I had the desktop via Eth, laptop 1 on wifi 1, laptop 2 on wifi 2 and they all work. I didn't bother checking the max transfer speed.

      Just know that it can be done.

    • Setup I use.

      Router/modem -> Network cable -> Powerline device #1
      Powerline device #2 -> Switch -> Network cable -> various network devices

      That's it. The various network devices now connect just like they've plugged into the back of the router. The speed isn't fantastic, but I do get a bit over 2x speed of wifi-G.

    WOW a whole 2 dollars cheaper!!!

    since when has 2 dollars made anything a real bargain… except on a 2 dollar item!?

    • However the retailer is reputable. Should I buy from some one line retailer running from a garage or from an old company with a fantastic rep and real shops? Oh not sure, you decide.

      • +3

        They're selling the same product…who cares where you buy it from?
        It's not like HT assembled the product or provide the warranty.

        I'd rather save a further $6 & get if from MSY - more stores, cheaper prices.

        • -5

          Sure MSY is ok but some of their stores are dodgy. You pay for the extra service as well. You go to MSY and get zero service. These arguments are old and you can go for it on whirlpool.

        • Sorry Op, but you posted "reputable and good company", it's the only reason I bought it up.

          This is Ozbargain, not OZsomeNormallyOverpricedStoreHasSomethingCheaperThenUsualButNotAsCheapAsOthers
          It's 6.5% more expensive then MSY….sorry again, but no bargain.

          caveat: I own shares in Wesfarmers (HT's parent company), so please ignore my comments above & buy this item and all your computing needs from HT.

      • We have 3 levels of protection: retailer guarantee, distributor/manufacturer guarantee and as a last resort the ACCC or whatever it is called now. So the store you buy it from is less important than the price so long as you're getting the same product.

        • -2

          Sorry, does not work that way in real life. But good you know your rights.

    $6 cheaper and in stock apparently

    Edit: Or $80 if you have Foxtel IQ (or know someone who does!)

    • MSY didnt have it before! Thx!!

      gonna buy XAVB1004 instead!

  • +1

    If you are Foxtel subscriber, you can get NP204 for $80 by calling them or order online from your account. So, this is no deal for me. Probably easier to find someone with a foxtel subscriber or sign up yourself with free trial on XBOX 360 (not sure if it is still exists) - just an idea for you guys to ponder :)

  • Well I got some good feedback on what to expect use wise thanks.

      Please don't be discouraged from posting deals because of this, it's always good to generate constructive discussion =) I remember finding out about the Foxtel offer through a similar deal someone posted, wouldn't have known otherwise!

      IMO the negs were a little unnecessary - the difference in price was only $6 and some people are willing to pay extra to not have to wait in line or be disappointed if reported stock levels are inaccurate.

      Perhaps for future deals, add a quick comparison with other retailers' pricing in the description?

      • Hey Ttrmeth, certainly don't be disheartened. You've removed your excitable claims about HT & thus I've removed my neg. And like RN said certainly don't let it stop you posting, look at all the comments you're post has produced - 35 and counting.

  • Does anyone have any real world speed tests for these?

  • The idea of these is fantastic.

    Why oh why haven't the power companies be sending us ultra fast broadband? We're never going to get fast speed through 2 pussy copper wires are we? :P
