Where Do You Buy Your Christmas Tree?

With the holiday season fast approaching, just curious to know where everyone buys their Christmas trees and how big? How often do you replace the tree?

We've moved into our new home and we're doing our Christmas tree shopping now. It seems all the good ones are already selling out quick.

Had a look at Kmart, Big W, Myer, and David Jones. What I learnt so far is you get what you pay for.

Big W I think but it was many years ago. Think twice about buying a large tree. I have a 7' and while it does look great, with all those branches setting up and packing away are a PITA before you even get to the decorations. I usually only put it up because the nieces come over, this year they're going away so I won't see them until the new year so you better believe I'm not wasting my time with it this year. /grinch

Heard about this. Does it look as good as the pictures in real life?

        its pretty good for $99

Comes in 3 parts that you just put together and then you can open all the branches. Lights have different modes too

        • Nice. Are the lights physically attached to the tree? Is it easily removable if the lights ever break?

    • Second this. un-real compared to other aldi products.

  • BigW - Then I used it once, and now it sits in a box every year coz I cant be bothered

Lemon Scented Gum Tree Branch from a local park that has naturally fallen off in a Christmas tree holder
Aside from being free, the house smells amazing, the leaves stay green even when dried, there's virtually no mess from dropped leaves, no water required, it looks great and it's easy to dispose.

The one potential downside is that it's generally fairly small.

  • Got mine from Gumtree for almost free, easy on the wallet and on the environment. It's actually extremely hard to recycle Xmas trees due to their size and being made of more than just plastic.

There's heaps of people throwing out trees for extremely cheap

If you have kids and not poor, get a real tree. They'll remember the smell and experience.

We have been using the plastic inflatable Christmas tree from the dollar shop over the last couple of years. Quick to inflate, and quick to take down the day after.

You're supposed to leave the tree up for the whole twelve days of Christmas - until January 6th.

  • Real one from a local community group.

    • RFS up our way go out to the state forest and cut the small saplings that have grown up amongst the nearly ready to harvest pines.
Free trees to sell as a fundraiser, the loggers are happy this waste is removed and the RFS folk get some chainsaw practice.
