Brake cleaner vs degreaser are very different products

      • +18

        Yeah they taste completely different

      • I don't understand, so this Bendex is 2in1 cleaner AND degreaser? whereas the one Kas linked is just degreasing/

        • +3

You can use brake cleaner as a degreaser, but you can't use degreaser as a brake cleaner. Brake cleaners leave no residue, which you obviously don't want on your brake rotors, since it'd affect braking performance and potentially soak itself into your brake pads. For this reason, brake cleaner is a lot more expensive.

    • +1

You don't need to hose this off, it'll dry naturally or you can wipe it off

    • Repco degreaser is even cheaperer @ $1.50 too

  • +1

This Bendix brake cleaner is good. Bought 12 bottles the last sale, maybe it is time to stock up.

    • +1

You have a lot of bikes?

  • +1

    bought 6, thanks op

  • So do you need to apply once you have taken the wheel off, or can you apply with it on?

    • +1

If you just want a general smear - As long as you can access around the brake pad or shoe, no reason you can't do it with wheel on. But if you want a proper clean, you'll need to remove wheel and the pads.

    • +1

May as well wait until brake pad time or pull apart and clean everything properly

  • would this be good as a mag wheel cleaner?

    • No!! Get bowdens own wheely clean. Thank me later.

  • Stupid question but would you be able to use this for degreasing a stove top?

    • +1

I don't see why not, you might be able to get some cream cleaner for stoves cheaper?

    • +2

You could, but there are better options. Like caustic oven degreaser (seems thats no longer available) Caustic soda

Careful though, thats heavy stuff. It will burn your hand like Graham Norton in Fightclub if it gets on you. Wear glasses, washing gloves, and have vinigar close by to wash it off in the event of an accident.

        • ..they're different people?
Damn it, google has ruined me. Any time I try typing something from memory now its always wrong.

      • Will it work inside oven, or too corrosive?

  • +5

Also good for cleaning PC's. Tech Yes lovin.

    • +1

This a joke right? Lol otherwise keen to know how this could help with what components.

      Edit:
Ok googled Tech Yes Lovin, need to watch some vids.

      • Yeah ikr lol. I thought the same.

  • Thoughts on weather this stuff is any better than SCA or Repco brand or Liqui Moly etc?

    • +3

There is chlorinated and none-chlorinated brake cleaner. Chlorinated can mess up plastic badly.

      • Is that stated on the cans usually?

    • +1

I haven't used Repco brand brake cleaner yet, however I've found Liqui Moly the best, followed by Bendex. I found SCA brand to be quite inferior and prefer not to use it.

  • Stupid question but can this be used for the garage door roller wheel?

  • Will this work for sliding balcony doors?

    • +1

No. See lomie's comment above, you need a lubricant.

  • Comes up as $15.29?

    • +4

      Buy 3

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Thanks OP. Awesome deal!

For anyone picking up from Para Hills, SA store, order from another store as they are relocating (to Parafield next to Officeworks) and can't fulfill the order.

  • +6

According to the SDS this is a 50/50 mix of shellite and isopropyl alcohol in case that’s useful info. Awesome flame thrower potential.

  • Strange bargain, oddly very cheap….

Are you surprised that this company is selling Automotive goods Super Cheap?

      • Oddly we are..

      • lol

      • I am surprised that this company is selling GOOD products cheap.

  • Any good for cleaning and regreasing my cars sunroof?

    • +1

      Not recommended on plastic.

    • It doesn't lubricate, it will dissolve any grease/oil.

  • Can I spray this to clean the brake dust off my wheels?

    • +2

These are primarily for (1) removing oil from any mating surface such as brake rotor (2) removing brake dust from brake parts without water so it dries quickly for reassembly, for example when working with drum brakes. For the wheels some soapy water and light brushing will do the job just fine. In some cases chemical cleaners that target iron dust are also useful.

  • Cheers! Just grabbed 12!

  • This is a non-petroleum based cleaner intended for brake components so it doesn't damage the rubber seals and hoses in automotive braking systems.

  • Does this help with brake squeal? Just changed my pads ands it squeeels…

  • +2

Price is highly inflated. I once bought SCA brake cleaner for around $3 so $3 is the normal price not $15. Bought three anyway. Thanks OP.

    • I once bought SCA brake cleaner for around $3 so $3 is the normal price not $15.

But this isn't SCA brake cleaner?

  • +2

I thought we only uses brake cleaner on new set of rotors to clean off oil coating. Not sure why people are keen on directly spraying on rotors after they have been installed on the wheel. Any dust or dirt can be removed by strong spray of water too right? Maybe I am missing something

    • +2

      Yes you are.
The product is heavily discounted so we must buy up. Questions later.

    • +2

You're correct but there's other uses for it - it can basically be used to clean up a whole range of parts, particularly where regular degreaser is too harsh or you don't want it to leave a film.

  • Is this stuff any good for cleaning oil off driveway?

    • +1

I've heard that the cheap cans of oven cleaner from the supermarket work great on driveway oil stains. But check with Dr Google first.
      https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/easy-off-oven…

    • It'd work, it's just expensive usually. Regular degreaser is cheaper and designed to be rinsed off, whereas this evaporates completely so if it's more than a small spot the regular degreaser is probably better. This is more for cleaning parts that you don't want to rinse.

  • Great Deal, thanks

  • Is it really $9.99 delivered? It's charging me $7.50 for shipping.

    • it was free delivery yesterday.

  • Picked mine up, thanks OP. The Bendix cans I was given look quite different to that pictured in the deal post (and on the SC website) but it appears to be the same stuff.

  • I understand the difference between brake cleaner and degreaser, but what about wax and grease remover? Let's say I am painting my calipers shall I be using brake cleaner or W&G?

    • It's sort of the same stuff, I noticed that this stuff smells the same as Wax & grease remover and should work for painting, but I noticed it leaves a residue when it dries out.
