KitchenAid KPM5 Stand Mixer (Empire Red or White) + Ice Cream Bowl Attachment - $389 Delivered @ Kogan

260

Really good price for a bowl-lift model. Much better value than the Artisan (KPM150/160/170) tilt heads and way better than the crappy Classic model coming on sale often.

Pro-tip: It’s a little risky to do as the price might go up but I’ve found if you make a new account, put the item in your cart/wishlist and don’t check out you’ll get a coupon code in 1 - 14 days that is valid for 24 hours. This also works for other stuff (I've only tried kitchen appliances, but got 20% off Anova coupons, 20% off Selected Kitchen Essentials (got myself a dehydrator 🔥🔥🔥)).
I did this on a few accounts until I got one that lined up with the KitchenAid coming on sale, stacked with a Kogan First trial for free rural shipping (because living 10 minutes from the CBD is rural?), and some discounted gift cards. Winner.

  • Noticed Kogan also have the KitchenAid KSM150 Artisan Stand Mixer for $399. (https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kitchenaid-ksm150-artisan-stand…)
    This is a better model?

I’ve had the KSM160 before (KSM150 but with with an extra bowl) and am getting the KPM5 this time around as I’d much rather the bowl lift.

While the motor is slightly less powerful the design (IMO) is better for heavy mixing.

      • Why is the bowl lift better? Our Artisan broke after mixing an overly dense bread dough, have been looking at getting it fixed but this could be a good option to get a different model. But not sure how it could be better for heavy mixing with a less powerful motor?

I smoked my Artisan with bread dough. Literally.

As the bowl lifts up on the bowl lift model the head doesn't bounce up and down as it does on the tilt model when kneading bread. You'll notice on the Pro-Line and Commercial models that they all use bowl lift rather than tilt-head.

  • I'm trying to use coupon code COOLBF for extra 20% off but there is no promo code box to add it.

Edit: Realised this product not eligible for coolbf, solved.

  • Can I ask how is it weaker than Artisan model?

    • You know what, you're right! I was sure that it was slightly lower in motor wattage but I've just checked and it's 15W higher.

      I'll update the post, cheers.

Thanks OP! Bought one. Just got additional 10% off with your pro tip!

  • Just a word of caution for those sensitive to noise. The AC motor whirls loudly. If you want a quite unit, you would need to step up to the $999+ unit with the DC motor.

White is OOS. Bought Red. Faster.

  • I'm finding it hard to decide between the Kenwood Chef XL and the KitchenAid 150/KPM5. There seems to be hardly any comparison reviews for the Kenwood and loads for the KitchenAid. On the specs sheet the Kenwood sounds like it should be the better unit, higher wattage motor, double the dough capacity etc but I have no idea how choose between them. Are KitchenAid a bit like the Apple of mixers, generally ok product but expensive for what you get or are they competitive with the Kenwood's even though they have a far less powerful motor?

    • You pretty much got that spot on. Kitchenaid got the "looks" for a kitchen bench. I've checked out the top of the range kitchen aid stand mixer and their mixing tools are not even full stainless steel. I don't think the quality is as good as kenwood. Plus, with kenwood you can buy attachment like blender and far less more expensive than KA. I have Chef XL Titanium and love it to bits. Making anything is just a breeze with the 1700w motor.

      • The Chef XL 8300 Titanium from the deal you posted not long ago sold out quick, I think they only had a few available as the eBay store said like 3-4 sold. I get the feeling I should have picked up the Chef XL Elite then as it seems to be almost as good with a few less bells and whistles. As I do more doughs than anything (all by hand currently) I'm hesitant about the KitchenAid as even in this comment section someone has killed one with dough, they seem to be perfectly suitable for general baking but struggle with the thicker doughs.

        • Cant go wrong with the elite. Its practicaly the same only the motor is different and no halo light from the 8300. Back then i was contemplating with either the elite and the titanium too. The stainless steel mixing tool is just quality on your hands. When you owned one and compare to any of KA's ones. You'd know the feeling that you invested in the right machine. Kenwood are having a promo too, you can choose one (for the elite version) from 6 or 7 attachments via claim. If you go titanium, you get to choose 2 attachments. Good luck in hunting one then.

Bought one! Will see how it goes.

Foot timing, I saw one in kitchen warehouse today. The artisan model for $450, this one should be much better.

Looking forward to some custard icecream

  • So Kogan says, Item dispatches 1-2 weeks from the time of purchase, does anyone have experience with how long that really is?

    • +1

Ordered 27/11 - delivered 29/11. In Melbourne (so local). It maybe that I got one from inventory and later orders will need to wait for more stock to come into their warehouse-type facility.

Still: Good price. I'd have been happy to wait.

      • After ordering, Expected dispatch date: 12 December 2019 for those wondering as I was.

  • Damn out of stock ;( I sat on it too long, anyone know of possible restock before the ice cream bowl promo ends?

    • +1

I’m sure it will be restocked very soon. Keep in mind the price fluctuates often.

      • +1

Hope so I don’t mind paying a few extra dollars if it means I get the ice cream bowl before the promo is over :P

You snooze you lose. OTOH you still have $389 that you haven't spent. Down FOMO, down!

Shipping is now showing as being at the end of January 2020, so much for this being a gift that ships in 1-2 weeks…

    • Not. Good. At all.

      • Maybe ask for them to send you a KSM150 as a substitute? They had it for $10 more at the time.

      • Or ask for a refund.

I definitely wanted the KPM5 - but even I'd balk at have to wait 2 months. Poor effort from Kogan.

    • Just got the same email, guess that Christmas present is going to become a birthday present..

  • +1

I bought the mixer but it is smaller than what I thought it would be.
Would anyone like to buy (new/unused) it as I cannot return it due to Kogan's policy?
    This includes the free attachment.

    • Might needs some details like where you are. Put it in the classifieds (on this site). Perhaps jonoz might be interested? Send a PM?

    • I might be interested but I am located in Canberra :S

    • Where are you located?

      • +2

Sorry I've decided to use it and not selling it anymore.
