The S10e is classed as a mid range phone too I thought?
Many reviewers seem to lump the Pixel 3a and S10e in the same category.S10e is a much better phone overall. Only place where the 3A has the edge is the camera.
S10E is an S10, has flagship specs, only thing is that it doesn't have the 3 cameras like S10, but only 2, which is 1 more than the 3A still.
Really? The amount of cameras are important to you? I'd rather only have 1 camera at the back then a ridiculous amount such as 4.
As for the comparisons, yes S10e is better than 3a. Look at their RRPs, you'd want the S10e to be better.
@pennypincher98: Yea it's more about versatility and ability, being able to capture a photo is better than capturing a crap photo that is high quality.
We are OZB though, we don't pay RRP ;-)
@onlinepred: I've got the Pixel 2 XL, and I'm no photographer so short disclaimer but I see no difference in having 4 cameras over the one.
And yes I know that, but if they both dropped by the same % amount it would be a fairer comparison :)
For an RRP of $1199 for the "affordable" S10 you'd expect it to be good :P@pennypincher98: Yea I used to love taking photos, so when I took my P2XL on holiday as my sole camera (inspiration from so many camera quality comments), I was gravely disappointing, so much so I bought a point and shoot camera while over seas of which I sold when I got back. Having a single fixed lens is extremely limiting, and at the least I would want a wide angle lens, and if I was spending big bucks I would want an optical zoom (x4), wide angle and 1.0x lens. Pixel 2 XL was RRP of $1450 and came with the least amount of ram and the worst screen on a flagship at the time ;-) So makes the s10e in the current climate look incredible value if you can get it for the price of a budget midrange pixel.
It's one of those things with lenses, if you have and get used to having more, it's so hard and limiting to go back to just one. It's like going from a Pixel 2XL to a Nexus 4 for photos - you get used to a certain ability like how quick it is to capture or how it performs in low light.
Anyway glad you like your pixel mate! Just know it might have the best single camera setup, but as a complete package it's very limiting unless all you take is super basic photos anyway. This is a great phone, it's one I would get my parents without thinking twice at this price (used to be iPhone XR).
@onlinepred: Well to be completely honest, I wouldn't have gone for the Pixel 2 XL if it wasn't for the F&F deal. In hindsight, I probably should've sold it and got something else.
Anyway glad you like your pixel mate!
Ahhh.. I only talked about the camera lol.
I'm not one for needing my phone to take the best photos. It still takes excellent photos, but if I'm going on a trip, I'm taking my DSLR.
Not sure if any phone camera can truly replace it yet.@pennypincher98: I took my S10+ (sold afterwards as too big for me) with me and found it catered for most of the photography needs. I had my DSLR for when I wanted more zoom or felt that it deserved a really great shot, especially photos of people, otherwise stuck to the S10+ for most things. But man like you said, comparing DSLR photos to even pixels is just unfair.
@onlinepred: Unpopular opinion, but I'm not really a fan of Samsung's offerings. Their Note line intrigued me at one point, but I preferred HTC. Shame they've gone downhill, but still quality phones coming out. In fact, got a U11 as a secondary phone.
But yeah, carrying a DSLR for special moments is still preferable.@pennypincher98: Oh man coming from a line of pixels up to pixel 4, I love the s10e for its feel, features and quality. I don't need the best of the best picture, I just want my phone to work, and to be able to do things. Pixels are too basic. HTC made some incredible phones, but they had huge hardware quality issues like pixels. I had the HTC 10 and u11, a long with many really old HTcs like touch hd, desire etc. Right now I don't think Android has great options, but Samsung is the best imo. Google might get there one day when they realise there is more countries in the world other the America.
Having a flat screen, stereo speakers, headphone jack, sofware features, high quality calls and solid hardware for me is key. Running Android 10 on the s10e now is making it quite nice.I loved the note line as they offered something different and unique. Not so much these days though.
Pixels are too basic.
It's basically an Android iPhone. Which some people like but I miss my old HTCs. After the M8 which was an amazing phone, they fell from grace. 2 years later the HTC 10 came out but by then people had moved on.
I haven't had any hardware quality issues, disregarding the fact the U11 is fragile AF, but Pixels yes I can definitely relate to.
Also I hate the fact I can't connect up any random dongle or USB-C headphones to the Pixel - it has to be theirs. To be honest, I'm waiting to see what the 4a has in store for us, or will just settle for a midrange HTC. I agree there's not many good options atm.
@pennypincher98: I'd go LG V40 over any recent HTC. Also helps as they are an OZB fav.
@onlinepred: Ah LG. Had some bad experiences with them. pixel 2xl was also manufactured by LG and hardware quality is questionable.
I get the V30+ is a cult phone around here, but not entirely convinced.
@pennypincher98: I'd rather have a cup of tea then a nap.
This is $11 shy of what I paid for an s10e 3 months ago, and this is a mid range phone right?
