Browser Extension to Show NBN Availability on Real Estate Sites

Hi all,

I've been working on a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, which adds the NBN availability and technology type for listings on realestate.com.au and domain.com.au.

Thought it might be useful for those considering buying or renting.

I'm still investigating methods of making the icons more informative - so if you have any thoughts please let me know.
Please let me know if you have any feedback or ideas for any additional features you'd find useful.

I am not affiliated with NBN, or any real estate sites that the extension integrates with.

Thanks, and I hope you find it helpful.

I'd love to know properties that DON'T have NBN. I've just been forced to move over and am paying more and getting less. Total shambles.

Good on you OP, this would have saved me a fair bit of effort while I was renting and looking at new places every 6 months.

Not sure if it would be as useful but a 4G/5G coverage indicator would be cool too as a future project.

Is this so I can avoid properties with NBN?

    • It's so that you can make an informed decision about whether the property suits your needs. It certainly would assist you in your quest.

  • Should highlight properties with ftth, all the rest seem worse than ADSL.

    • My home of the last 16 years is 2.2km from the exchange. Max speed on ADSL was 4.5 Mbps and is now 95 Mbps with FTTN. I think your comment is a gross exaggeration and rather silly.

      • Sounds like you've been quite lucky in the ol node lottery paul.

OP sounds great in theory but in practice can be misleading as NBN coverage source isn't reliable or up to the minute correct for each area?

In my area Maryborough, Qld NBN says yes, available in my street, fibre to the curb etc but the reality its still not available for ?? months. This is very common in the surrounding area, many ppl can get NBN in the next street but need 18 months for their street, but NBN says its available everywhere.

Unless you can guarantee the NBN source you scrape is totally accurate, reliable its not going to work, just spread false (NBN supplied) info

As for suggestions include 4G/5G coverage, again love the idea! However, where I live the whole street has to go outside in driveways to get coverage with any of the three carriers, yet coverage meters say perfect coverage this street , go figure

    • Hi ShannonnN,

The data source is NBN - so if that data can't be trusted, then it's certainly possible.
      I've PM'd you.

  • You should include Optus 5g home broadband check.

  • Very handy OP, if no NBN is available you should pull the info from iiNet's website - the estimated connection date is accurate - my friend who was expecting NBN on the estimated connection date provided by iiNet's website was spot on as he received it that day.

    • I believe this should be shown if you hover over the NBN status for the listing - at least on realestate.com.au.
This is the date estimated by NBN.

Please let me know if this does the trick.

      • It does show that (e.g. Under construction, completion Jan-Dec 2040)
If you are able to pull information from iiNet's website, it shows the exact date of connection.
