Good battery life, quite poor range: 100m in the shopping center, 200m in the forest. idk how to get 3km - in the space maybe.

That's pretty typical for a 0.5W handheld UHF radio.
You probably can get near 3km range if you are standing on top of a hill and the other person on the ground, and there is a very clear line of sight between both of you. Not realistic in most other situations.
The more annoying thing with many of these small 0.5W radio is they are powered by AAA batteries. Would rather they are larger and powered by longer lasting AA batteries.

We have the GME equivalent twin pack with micro-USB charging, great for extended camping trips as they can be recharged with a 12v source. You're not buying these for range, they're great for near field comms eg kids around campsite. Or when you're in the fourby at the top of a tight track and your spotter outside the car is guiding you down.

        • I have micro-USB chargeable ones too, but bought these from a previous deal as gifts.

The Uniden battery ones surprisingly work 3+km! My friend's kids used them across his properties, and they can also pick up signals from nearby trucks on the freeway. Lol

These cheaps ones are meant to be for fun, not serious walkie-talkies for die-hard jungle missions

    • There is no sound in the space. Maybe in the desert.

Get more range out of 2 tin cans with a string between them

    • Would’ve got these if I had been more sure about water resistance, and a way to attach a carabiner.

  • I have these, more of a toy than anything. Not very good range. Could barely get some signal at about a range of 500m in a suburbia type environment.

  • I also have these and managed to get them when they were 10 dollars each at Repco a few years back. I use them when having to winch friends out.
