    What does that give you?

I checked and it looks like you get access to their oregan warehouse which means tax free prices but more expensive and slower shipping to Australia.

      • Any idea how much slower and more expensive shipping from Oregon? Can't imagine it would make a big enough difference to cancel out the no-sales-tax benefit?

        • Uh… Admittedly I only have experience with one calculation so far, but the other day - to judge if it was worth signing up - I calculated the cost to send a package from their California warehouse. Then I signed up for this, changed the default warehouse to Oregon, and did the calculation again. It was the same price and listed all the same shipping/time options.

        • It all depends if you are buying new or used stuff. I did calculations for something I shipped from LA via USPS vs shipping from Oregon and the difference was about $25 US. DHL, FedEx were the same price from either warehouse

          • @alokin123: Hey, alokin123… your PMs are turned off, LOL. When it's time to consolidate, how does the customs declaration work? e.g. If you have 10x separate packages and want them consolidated into one, do you have to click and fill in the green customs declaration button showing on every 'arrived' package? Or only fill out one later when the 10x items are consolidated into one!?

Also, how you tell them to strip the packages and consolidate the 10x items into one?

What I mean is, you must click "Check All". But then under "Bulk actions" I see two options:

            • "Consolidate Selected Packages"
            • "Repack These Packages"

I haven't clicked it yet, but it looks like you can only select one of those options.

So if I select the first option, it sounds like they'll toss all 10x packages into a larger box without removing any packaging. But if I select: "Repack These Packages" … repack to what? (Does "Repack These Packages" mean: "Repack AND Consolidate"?)

  • Any idea how this would compare to the likes of auspost shopmate? I've only learned of such services this week when trying to find out how I can get my hands on the valve index

    • I just used their standard single-parcel service for the first time, very smooth, lots of updates, web interface works really well. Costs pretty reasonable.
Auspost Shopmate is a reseller of a Singapore-based company so some people run into troubles getting disputes resolved as there's an extra layer involved. But I've seen stories of problems from most parcel-forwarders…

    • Avoid shopmate. Planet express don’t charge you the 10% import tax to Australia.

      • Yeah… but they just throw your package into a black hole to avoid delivering it.

        • Where are you seeing experiences like that? I'm seeing a lot of negatives about another company: 'Shipito', but mostly praise for P.E.

          • @GregMonarch: I watched enough Futurama episodes. I know what they are really like!

            • @kronicmacstigator: I missed the joke/reference because I don't watch Futurama. So you had me in a cold sweat for a minute, because I just had a package sent there.

      • But what if the custom stop your item once it arrives here in aus and tells you to pay 10% duty?

  • Has anyone combined packages together with Planet Express? They list two charges which total about $7 'per package' to consolidate…

Are they saying we pay $7 for every package they have to OPEN and consolidate into one, or do they mean $7 for the one consolidated package they SEND?

I'm looking at buying a lot of books. But Amazon AU + free Prime shipping is say $4 AUD more per book than Amazon US (after the USD to AUD currency conversion)… But if you Amazon splits the orders and we have to pay Planet Express $7 (or whatever it is) PER book, then you may as well just buy from Amazon AU + Prime, and pay $3 less per book.

    • Ok, I PM'd someone on here who has used them before…

Planet Express states: "Consolidated Package Plan: $5 + $2 per each consolidated package."

If you have 10x separate items delivered to P.E., then consolidate those into one box to Australia, it costs $5 USD (once) for that one box, plus $2 USD for each item placed INTO that one box. So $5 + 10x $2 = $25 USD.
