Lenovo ThinkVision X24 $169.15
Lenovo T580 15.6" FHD IPS i5-8250U 16GB 256GB SSD Win10P Laptop Thunderbolt 3 $1274.15
There are only three manufacturers of memory now. It costs billions of dollars to make the factories to increase supply.
so how many manufacturers were there last year when the price was 265% higher?
There's only been three for quite a long time and there's been multiple successful lawsuits against them for price fixing.
@Diji1: Thank you. Someone WAS making millions by raising prices for no reason.
@Diji1: Plz name the 3
@capslock janitor: Samsung, Micron, Hynix.
@netsurfer: Also Samsung>Micron>Hynix?
@capslock janitor: It depends… Samsung B > Micron E ~> Hynix CJR
But, if it is just standard Micron and Hynix, they are probably about equal. I am guessing these would be non-CJR Hynix.
Wasn't there a flood that went through 2 of the 3 factories?
@Micksy: I think that was hard drives factories in Thailand
The crypto bubble, an explosion of PC demand in China, server parts demand, supply shortage and interest in machine learning drove up RAM/VRAM costs. It was a crazy time.
Damn I missed out on a good deal. I recently bought 2x 16gb kits (8gbx2 3200mhz) for 125$ per kit. This is a good price.
Depends on what you bought. If it was Micron Rev. E, you arguably got a better deal given the overclocking potential (and resultant performance bump).
Can i combine 2 packs and use all 4 sticks on my 3700x B450 build?
why not?
Yes, as long as your motherboard has 4 slots.
yes if they are same model from same brand
Exactly what I intend to do.
Would they really make a difference to 2400mhz?
in games, yes, if you are not bottlenecked by the GPU. in other workloads, slightly or not at all.
Since I posted the comment, I made my research and they don't really make a difference on the 3xxx ryzen CPUs
Maybe with the older ones.
well this rustled my jimmies, just paid $111 less than 12 hours ago ffs
Would this ram go well in a Ryzen5 motherboard ?
check your motherboards QVL and see if it is supported
What I notice sometimes not on QVL but still works
QVL is just a guarantee that it should work afaik,
so it might, but may bit hit or miss
I was looking into this a while back. I was looking at G.Skill RAM due to their international warranty process, but a lot of the B450 motherboards (starting on the cheaper side), only listed G.Skills higher end RAM, which negates the cheaper RAM/MB combo. I'm thinking of just going with some discounted Ripjaws V RAM with a B450 MB on special. QVL list be damned :-/
did u get the ripjaws v to work? i googled and some people report crashing, bsod, constant reboots.
@Gerry H: Not yet, have been holding out a bit, but will probably bit soon. Good point on some people's problems, when I'm about to purchase the RAM &/or MB on special, I'll google that combo to see if many have had problems…
I have this exact ram advertised in my 450m MSI Mortar Mobo with a ryzen 5 3600 and it works well. No issues (only have 2 x 8 cards though). Have not OC'd though.
Check your motherboard's specs first? It should has information about RAM supports.
My Gigabyte Z170 UD3 says this:
"Support for DDR4 3466(O.C.) /3400(O.C.) /3333(O.C.) /3300(O.C.) /3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.) /2800(O.C.) /2666(O.C.) /2400(O.C.) /2133 MHz memory modules
So supported? I assume the O.C. means that a, say, 2133 can be overclocked to 3200?
Firstly, your motherboard supports this RAM kit.
Secondly, no. That's a wrong assumption. It means, your motherboard supports 2133 MHz memory modules in standard mode (by default), and supports higher frequency memory modules in O.C mode (this can be activated/changed in Bios settings).
Besides, if you can overclock your RAM, why would people spend more on the higher frequency RAM..
@Scythic: because higher rated mhz will oc even more, some ram will not oc more than their rating. it all depends on how good the particular ram u bought is, its all binned stuff.
Z chipsets from intel support memory overclock. At the time when Z170 was released, the official DDR4 memory speed was DDR4-2133. Anything above is considered overclocked. The current standard is up to DDR4-2400, but with motherboard chipsets supporting memory overclock, memory makers want to sell faster / overclocked RAM.
Most DDR4-2133 RAM modules are not suited for overclock. You might be able to overclock some of them, but not by much (and you may need to raise voltage).
You can use these and when using XMP, it should set to DDR4-3200. However, if you want to overclock further, you will have to go manual. Given the price and the review, don't expect to overclock these much.
It Has worked on gigabyte and msi b450 motherboards no problem. Just don't expect to do any overclocking. Any change to xmp settings has failed for me
postage is expensive :(
T580 is solid!
CL14 3200 for $97 is that legit?
Nah it's cl16
Was gonna say, that seems way too good.
Consider ballistix micron e-die, I had no issues running my 3200c16 at 3200c14, no real stability testing done though. Currently have them at 3400c16, I found this had a more calculable performance increase.
It's more expensive, though I got mine for ~$102 during the 12% cashback.
@Hiphopopotamus: I'll just stick to my flare-x, but those would be all you need.
For those with the $5 Ebay Plus Voucher
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/G-Skill-Ripjaws-V-16GB-2X8GB-DDR…
$94 G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 2X8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16
Can't believe the prices of RAMs & SSDs. I always suspected someone making millions from this. Just last year 16gb DD4 3200MHz ram was $260.
