    Are the socks vegan?

  • +3

Vegan shoes are great and all but if you're motivated and ethical enough to buy these then surely egyptian cotton is… Problematic?

    https://cases.open.ubc.ca/w17t2cons200-29/

Unless you're just a virtue signalling vegan who buys vegan shoes but is cool with other damaging practices.

I hope the socks aren't made from kiddie labour in Sri Lanka.

    • +1

Vegan Style stands against all forms of exploitation, including human exploitation. The socks are made fairly in Sri Lanka. There's more information about the supply chain on the manufacturer's website.
      .

      • And how is the cotton grown?

What are the shoes made of?

      • -3

Hi, you're committing price exploitation for the cost of your shoes. I want to know the cost you're paying for them from the supplier. It's probably 4-5x more.

        • We wish! But alas no, our margins are nowhere near that high. We only work suppliers that pay their workers a fair wage.

          • -5

@Vegan Style: Can I know how much you're paying your supplier per shoe? Else for all we know you're committing price exploitation.

        • +2

Lol, they're exploiting ozbargainers! But are ozbargainer human?

        • +1

          It's expensive to be vegan.
But I didn't think it was $179 shoe expensive. How many vegans have actually bought vegan shoes and socks.

Why don't you expand your business and have a whole vegan outfit for $999.

          • @pennypincher98: Going barefoot is the most veganest of all footware. No animals harmed at all. Unless you kick them. But a good vegan wouldn't do that.

          • @pennypincher98: So a bunch of leaves stapled together?

          • +2

            @pennypincher98: So expensive.

Now, let me get those $500 rm Williams leather things as a deal on the front page.

            • @fantombloo: They are quite tempting. Everyone seems to rave about their quality and durability. Have you tried a pair?

        • +2

I want to know the cost you're paying for them from the supplier.

          -

Nonvegan to anybody: Yeah, it's a business, they have their costs and markups, the market will decide.

Nonvegan to vegan: I want to know the cost you're paying for them from the supplier.

          -

Nonvegan to anybody: Yeah, bacon and cheese is life, stupid pigs and cows, all they're good for.

Nonvegan to vegan: How dare you eat plants - they have feelings.

          -

          You're a joke!

    • +5

Well, these guys are doing their best not to harm the animals. You gotta start somewhere, don't you ?

If you actually care about your carbon footprint, the best you can do is to keep the stuff you buy for as long as you can.

  • -5

Are the shoes built higher on the left…a lot of vegans lean to the left

    • are you trying to make them tip over?

    • That was funny!!

  • how much are the shoes

    • Oops - should have said in the deal information. They are $179.

  • Socks produced in Sri Lanka from Egyptian cotton.

Hmm. Is this like being a vegan but still eating jelly?

    • How so?

Vegan Style stands against all forms of exploitation, including human exploitation. The socks are made fairly in Sri Lanka. There's more information about the supply chain on the manufacturer's website.

    • Seems like these shoes must come in a very large size… because they have a big footprint…a big carbon footprint.

Ultimate in hypocrisy. Want to look like you are wearing leather bun aren't. Why not just wear vinyl, rubber or cloth made shoes.

    • +1

Nonvegans are so hypocritical, tanning and colouring the skins of dead animals to look like vinyl and other space age materials when they're not.

      • Leather tanning started 1000s of years ago. Vinyl was invented 100s of years ago.

        • +2

Nonvegans are so hypocritical, eating and wearing shoes like they're in the stone age but using computers to write comments on ozbargain.

          • @fantombloo: No, pretty sure my shoes are in style and not from the stone age. Designs change.

            • @Pikaloo: Nonvegans are so hypocritical, saying things change but not willing to change their views about other animals being mere resources for humans rather than individuals with their own interests.

              • -4

@fantombloo: What's the difference between a plant and an animal? Both need sustenance of some sort, both grow old. But wait, one has a voice whilst the other one doesn't.

                The hypocrisy. #PlantsHaveFeelingsToo #SaveThePlants teamtrees.org

                • +1

@Pikaloo: Nonvegans are so hypocritical, talking about plants having feelings but mowing their lawns and eating animals which eat plants themselves thereby actually consuming a fckton more plants than vegans ever would.

                  • -4

@fantombloo: I'm not being hypocritical I eat and kill both plants and animals. You on the other hand are hypocritical by killing and eating plants but not animals.

                    • +3

@Pikaloo: Nonvegans are so hypocritical, pretending to be smart but saying plants have feelings; pretending to care for plants and animals but actually not caring for either.

              • +1

@fantombloo: How do you spot a vegan? Don't worry they'll have it as their profile picture.

                • -1

@LuckyDrew: That's kind of disgusting. @thevofa puts their mum's milk into their coffee…….Bit weird.

                  • +1

@Pikaloo: Nonvegans are so hypocritical, putting other mums' and from totally different species milk in their coffee and calling vegans weird.

                    • @fantombloo: Any day of the week, anything that isn't incest.

                      • +2

@Pikaloo: Nonvegans are so hypocritical, telling me I drink boobjuice when they actually drink boobjuice.

                    • @fantombloo: So your mother still breastfeeds you?

                      • @MojoMiwo: No dude. I was weaned off my own mother's boobs when I was a toddler, and then weened myself off other mother's boobs at the same time I realised I was taking someone else's milk.

So are you still sucking the cow titties?

                        • @fantombloo: No have moved on to sucking on other female titties but I have been weaned off my own mother's boobs as a toddler.

I still though think you regularly suck on something else 🤣🤣🤣.

  • vegan leather=PU leather??

i bought a 'vegan leather' belt online from ozsale and so surprise it's made from PU leather/vinyl. i thought vegan leather was made from plant based fabric.

    • +1

These shoes Eco Label certified. But yes, some vegan shoes are made from plant-based materials, which we also carry. In fact, we have some boots made from apple-leather arriving this week.

    • +1

Vegan leather is typically polyurethane or some mixture of plan products in polyurethane. What is a sandwich to one, is a gourmet roll to those who will pay for a label.

      • +1

if they say it's PU i won't buy it for the same price. it's not even a sandwich.

but, dang marketing stuff is deceiving sometimes. just like that 'big' mac, which is small mac

        • At least a 'small mac' isn't a 'vegan polyurethane mac'.

  • +1

Well this has been a real hoot. Wait, am I allowed to say that as a non-owl or is that cultural appropriation?

    • +1

It's species appropriation. And we prefer to be referred to as a parliament of owls

      • Well better add species-ist to the rest of the -ists I am.

        • As long as you are equally -ist to all things, then that's ok

  • Vegan shoes? Has the world gone mad?
