Black Friday: Speakers for Audiophiles

G'day all

What websites should I be checking (other than Ozbargain) for quality AND 'value for money' deals over the discount season? I'm located in Brisbane if that means anything.

I'm already keeping an eye on Excelhifi, toddshifi, and brisbane hifi. I'm guessing Ebay and the major bricks'n'mortar stores too.

I'm probably after a set of bookcase speakers I can turn into rears later on but that's not set in stone. Any advice is appreciated :)

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2019

Advise is to not buy speakers with intention of turning them into rears later.

Get something that actually sounds good and looks good. If you have no need for them in the future, sell them and get a proper surround system.

If you already know you may outgrow the current arrangement, don't buy brands with low resale value. You may be paying more upfront for a brand that charges higher for their reputation but your overall cost of ownership will be lower.

    • I'm not sure why you think speakers that sound good shouldn't be turned into rear speakers.

      • Because rear speakers actually do not benefit from being good quality.

Sure, one can measure the sonic difference but a human ear facing the opposite direction and the human brain filtering direction of information negates any perceived benefit.

I bought B&W 685s with the intention to use them as rears later……..to this day they remain my front speakers. Awesome speakers

The Monitor Audio 100’s in the deal I posted seem like a good bargain @ $274 Delivered.
I always recommend listening in person before buying, but here is a sound demo.
Try calling local stores to see if they can demo them for you.
They are also suitable for being turned into ‘rear surrounds’ if you need.

I bought a 2nd hand pair of definitive technology BP 2006 speakers last year,
and when I blew one up,
    I bought a pair of Polk S60's & when I fixed my BP 2006's,
I put them in the rear & it works well with the Polk S60's up front

    • Good to see love for the deftech's.

      Awesome, underrated speakers

and hard to get parts for,
I needed the crossover & 2 mid range drivers,
        over $500 bucks.
but not long ago there was a fine set of BP's & they sold for $445 on eBay,
I had no money to buy them, spewing…..

        • Oh really? I try to scan eBay and Gumtree (and the stereo net forums) for people offloading their old deftech gear, must have missed those though. Ah well!

To the op: keep an eye on Eastwood HiFi also.
