ShopBack - What Is It and Is It Worth It? Your Personal Experience

Just wondering what people think of ShopBack.

I'm very sceptical as it sounds like free money which sounds too good to be true. Maybe i'm misunderstanding it. What have been peoples experience and would you recommend it? i've looked up online reviews of the service and it seems most people think it's rubbish. What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

  • Well it got me 80% off nordvpn subscription (although i had to wait more than a month to get it)

Definitely. Between shopback and cashrewards I've gotten back over $2200 (that's cash transferred to me via paypal). Most of the transactions you might get a couple of bucks, but it adds up. Sometimes you get really good cashback, like when Telstra had $150 back for new plans, or the time limited offers like 12% for everything on amazon or when aliexpress does chinese celebrations (last time I bought some security cameras I got around $50 back per cam by splitting the orders).

If you are going to spend money online anyway, might as well try to get some back. It's worth looking for coupons though because you can sometimes get a better upfront discount (then try the cashback sites anyway, sometimes you get both)

  • I like it, seems to work a bit more consistently then others, not entirely sure how it works though, I assume they're getting paid for your shopping information but its probably something I should know.

In saying that I am getting free money, I'm hoping that over the years of just passive spending I'll be able to buy a PS5 maybe a year after release.

  • I make about $400 a year using cashback like this, not only through personal spending, but work purchases as well.

    • Is shopback recognising your work purchases automatically? Mine isnt and ive been having to submit it manually every time and its quite a pain. Perhaps because its invoiced and no payment is done immediately?

I have not encountered any problems, but most of my purchasing has been through Cashrewards until now.
Probably not a problem for me as I have a company credit card and pay at time of ordering.

The retailers pay ShopBack and Cashrewards a referral for the clickthrough when someone buys. Unlike other referral programs, where the affiliate keeps all the cash, ShopBack and Cashrewards give some of that money back to you.

    • Ahh right.. ok that makes a bit more sense.

Basically when you click through Shopback/Cashrewards to make a purchase, they get a percentage of commission for referring you and then they give you a portion of that back. That way they make profit to stay afloat/pay their employees and you get some cashback :)

For activities like Singles' Day a lot of these increases end up being out of their own pocket.

  • Just took out a deal with them for David Jones for 9% cashback on some items that basically never get discounted. You've got to wait 90 days (or whatever it is) to get your cash, but it all seems to work fine.

I've been with Cashrewards a few years and got several hundred back. The money is in my account promptly.

I've had some tracking issues which they addressed.

It's a good service if you follow / understand the process.

It does require a change of habit to maximise rewards. I now do all my Dan Murphy purchases online to get cashrewards and then do C&C.

    Seems overwhelmingly positive here…

    Cheers for all the responses.

    • lol mate you've been missing out. Yes it feels a bit too good to be true, but I have been earning about $400 per year on each app (cashrewards & shopback( and I don't even do much online shopping. Mostly use them for travels which helps.

You lost money. Somehow you think you're up by $400.

        • I don't think I'm up by $400, more like getting a discount lol. Better than $0.

Just remember to be mindful of the terms. Things like not using adblockers or having products in your cart already as it's very easy to not have sales track.

  • I was skeptical also, but have recently taken cashrewards and shopback up for spend I'd otherwise be doing. Bit annoying for that first waiting period to expire, but it comes. Key is to not spend more to get cashback.

We were due to buy kogan mobile renewals.. but I couldnt resist simhopping back to Catchconnect for the next 3 months - effective cost of 54gb over 90days + phone calls is $1/month for both me and mrs with the recent $12 cashback on 90 day plan, which only cost $15. Even if it takes 3 months to show up.. I'm still happy!

  • I have gotten back close to $3000 over the last 3 years with Cashrewards and close to $700 with Shopback in the last 1.5 years. Both of them are pretty good, havent had much issues with tracking , provided you follow the right things in the description.

I cant fault either one, competition is good. and find the Store Reps to be quite helpful if there are any issues.

I generally choose the one which has a better rate on the given day.

  • I've made over $700 on cash rewards and $100 on shopback. I thinks its worth the effort :)

Why not get paid to shop more :P
