just had a look, still more expensive than other competitors after 15% off

  • Where's the incentive to buy direct from them vs. when they have 15-20% off Computer Alliance on eBay, and we can stack with gift cards?

    • The price may be jacked on eBay, but they have free shipping with eBay Plus.

      • +1

I think historically they haven't been too bad with jacking (there was a Google sheet which tracked it shared on OzBargain before) but yeah you're right, the eBay Plus shipping has been great. I built nearly my entire rig thanks to Computer Alliance and eBay coupons :)

      • They said the jacking was due to market fluctuations during the sale….

        • I'd give them the benefit of the doubt as I've been a long time advocate for seeing their pricing as reasonable at least on the items I was buying (i.e. I had done my research and confirmed they hadn't gone up in price) but given the margins that PC shops operate on, it doesn't surprise me that they're constantly having to adjust pricing.

If prices went up by coincidentally the same amount as a coupon however (and then came back down right after), then that's when I'd be a little more dubious about it all.

      • I think they always have the same price on the website and eBay store. Shouldn’t have any jacking

        • -2

          Nope, they do price jack

  • Do I buy now or wait for the Black Friday Sales.

I'm looking at either RX 5700XT or 2070S. Still undecided.

    • wait

    • You can buy the 2070s now if you want the COD code from the promo (buy till 18th Nov, apply till 20 Nov), but the 2070s is more expensive.

      • Wait, you can get a free game??!

        • Heres an example from Aorus or Gigabyte cards (other manufactures' conditions may differ), note that shipping can take long and you might not get to redeem it.

          • @soggypotato: Oh snap! Thanks Cool I had bought a 2080 Super from that PLE deal earlier sometime - just wasn't advertised the bonus game anywhere on their product page so wasn't expecting anything extra with it, Galax's promo page here: http://www.galax.com/en/webforms/index/index/id/94/ for those wondering if they are participating too or not and have also bought the same card off PLE… Strangely Galax isn't mentioned as a platform partner in all this according to Nvidia: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/campaigns/call-of-duty-…

But cool, if I manage to get this free bonus with the purchase! Obviously since the game is linked to the card, asyou need to install geforce experience and activate it through there, I won't be able to sell it to offset the cost of the card a bit. 🤔

  • Oooh, I like their website…looks clean…and even display in realtime notifications of someone buying something seconds or minutes ago….that's cool….

  • "Coupon was not applied to your shopping cart!"

    • +3

I think you have to wait till CF starts.

      • Oh, I assumed it already had 😂

  • They may or may not have the best pricing but they do give you the most manufactures warranty usually 3 years vs 12 months for the rest of their competitors

    • A manufacturer warranty is a manufacturer warranty. If manufacturer gives 3 years, u get 3 years. Unless you are saying C.A provides warranty that exceed manufacturer's warranty? If so, please share the links to those products.

  • Does anyone know if this include eBay? Need a new system, now torn if I should wait for black Friday or this.

    • I say wait, their 20% off ebay sale recently had better prices for the items ive been looking at than this one

  • I've got my eye on the Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD and ~$400 is the best you'll find at the moment

They're trying to flog off a Ryzen 3900X for $949 even though the RRP is $789. So even with the 15% off the CPU will be $807.

What an absolute joke and farce these guys are. They can shove their sale up their ass.

    • So many online retailers especially on ebay are like this nowadays. It's sad.

  • Trying to buy a monitor but their payment options S U C K

  • Computer Alliance are really losing their fans.
Price jacking not just the ebay sales now, but even the website too. Items going for more than rrp. What a joke.

So I'm looking at a WD Red NAS drive and talk about price jack. They now have two listings of the 4TB version at different prices - with only the more expensive one eligible for the discount… What a joke

  • Same with the Ryzen 7 3700x I was looking at. Two listings but only the more expensive has the discount.

  • Dodgy with the two prices online, one with discount and one without. The Ryzen 5 3600 with 15% discount is cheaper yes but it's blatantly showing price jacking to goad you into thinking you're getting a bargain, not within the spirit of the deal.

    • I do find it weird that technology that is getting older is increasing in price somehow.

Sorry for any confusion over few products we have with dual entries on our web site.

For some select products we have 2 x SKUs of the same products at different prices. The lower priced SKU has additional restrictions for sale - most commonly they can only be purchased at that lower price with other components. The idea is that the lower priced unit includes a discount for buying a bundle of gear from us and has been a method we have used to provide that extra discount for larger orders across many years.

During site wide promotions, we usually exclude products which already have discounts applied, as well as some other listing such as those not in stock, as noted in the promotion.

In most cases through, that makes the single buy item cheaper than the bundle SKU when bought with a coupon, which we have realised is confusing, so we have removed the SKUs with restrictions on their sale for the duration of the promotion.

Pretty sure the ACCC call this Bait Advertising.
      https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertis…

      • No, thats rather a different idea and usually relates to where a company is not being upfront about what is on offer, or the terms of any sale

In this case we are very clear that one SKU of some products are only available under restricted terms of sale ie must be bought with other gear to get a discount. We have also clearly excluded those discounted bundle SKUs from this current promotion. From the link you posted, the key point is as long as there is no intent to mislead its all good ie "It is not misleading if the business is upfront in a highly visible, clear and specific manner".

As I mentioned the idea of the 2nd SKU is to be able to offer a discount on larger orders automatically. Its a common method used by retailers to provide those extra discounts, going back decades, but given comments here its clear that some people are confused by the approach and it does make a mess of site wide discounts (there is no way we would do the same discount on the already discounted SKUs as it would drop the price too far under distribution price — apart from losing $, our competitors would simply buy all the stock!! I suppose we could simply exclude the related single buy SKUs as well, but thats not ideal)

It does have me thinking how else we might provide those extra discounts for bigger orders automatically in a different way, irrespective of what sales are on. I have a few ideas and will talk them over with our marketing people. Would be nice to entirely get rid of the duplicate codes while still looking after people who buy larger amounts, and additionally, people who by more regularly from us and buy gear outside the "best price ever" deals.

I would be interested to hear from people on realistic ideas we could use to achieve a similar outcome that is less confusing. The current fashion seem to be VIP club membership etc (thank you Amazon! grrrr!) which i hate the idea of if it needs extra effort or cost for the customer to be part of. Most companies seem to use it to be more opaque and in fact misleading about the overall deal, the opposite of what we aim for! … but maybe some automatic discounts based on order sizes and purchase history?

    • See here

I have removed the two screenshots (needed the file counts) but it's obviously PRICE JACK

      • You have linked 2 x different model drives in that thread which also happen to have slightly different prices - take a look at the model numbers on the entries. ST8000VN004 vrs ST8000VN0022

I think you are simply confused and assumed they are the same drives???

I believe the ST8000VN0022 is the older model, though still not much between them, but thats why its slightly cheaper. I guess our guys who set the pricing did it to help clear them when we had stock of both. Its probably overdue to be removed if now end of life.

No conspiracy here, just common practice to have a lower price on older model / clearance stock.

Additionally one of the model is currently in stock, and the other isn't, which is why the out of stock product doesn't have the 15% off attached - as we have said, its only available on in stock items.

        • i will take your word for it that the older model is not gonna show up again. when the changeover of the ebay promo code happened, i checked your website and it was still showing stock for the older model.
