[Switch] Nintendo Switch AC Adapter $20 @ Target

880

Plug in the AC adapter to power your Nintendo Switch system, you can even recharge the battery while you play!

Nintendo Switch system sold separately.

Price was $34. Looked like they pricematched the Amazon deal… or the other way around?

It's more likely Amazon price matched target, it's how they operate.

    • +2

Now that you say that it totally sounds like Amazon was the one to price match.

  • But this one is in stock and amazon isn’t so looks like their strategy works.

  • So does the Switch come with a power adapter or do you need to buy this?

    • +2

luckily unlike the 3ds, they do come with one this time :)

      • +1

Even the Switch mini comes with one.

  • Why are these deals so popular all of a sudden? What use do you guys have for a second AC adapter?

    • +9

      Buy first, ask questions later.

One for the dock, one in another room, at your mum's place

      • +1

lol. Your mum jokes never get old.

    • My first switch AC actually stopped working couple of weeks back and been using the one from my wife's switch lite. Need to get a replacement :/

    • +1

Also fast charge for Android devices that uses USB C :) It's a cheaper option

      • Plus 1 to that. I got the (switch) car chargers when they were reduced to $8. Bargain.

        • i'm using Aukey 5 port USB charger so far ok. just need make sure you get good quality one and internal resistor

        • Wow. Didn't realise the wall charger was only 5V/1.5A. The car charger is 5V/3A.

So I don’t have to reach behind the entertainment unit and dig out the original AC adapter when I want to move the dock to another room or take it with me when travelling.

There’s a nest of cables and daisy-chained power boards back there behind the entertainment unit, and trying to get the Switch AC adapter out just to move the dock to a different TV is a pain… and an electrocution risk. Plus there are probably redbacks lurking in the dark crevices behind the entertainment unit.

$20 to avoid being electrocuted and bitten by redbacks is a deal in anyone’s book.

      • At least we are not the only one with those power boards behind the unit. We don't have a problem with placid spidees (well they usually hide and keep to themselves) but zombie ear wigs here. These zombies arrive at night time and seek you out. Surface spray regularly, even installed a few of those Kogan bug things a few weeks ago hmm … Finally I just "bombed" the place to get some peace.

    • I took my Switch into work one day (along with dock) with the assumption I could just use any (recent) USB-C adapter from a recent phone charger or mac laptop to power it.

Nope, big old rejection logo when plugged in on the Switch telling me to use an official charger.

      • +2

Weird - I use my phone cable plugged into my powerbank and it charges the switch fine.

        • +1

Perhaps it’s just when plugging into the dock? Mine works just fine too in portable mode with a power bank and USB-C cable.

        • Me too. I use my now-ancient Lumia 950 plug. It’s the type where you can’t remove the actual USB cable, if that makes a difference?

        • yeah plugging directly into switch is fine for charging, but docked is a no-no

          • @twig: Pretty sure the dock requires 39W input power, so no standard phone charger will deliver that.

    • +1

It's a pain in the ass to remove/setup the AC adapter from behind the mess of cords behind the TV unit.

Much easier to have a spare power cord and HDMI ready, and just take the dock itself.

    • Need to buy one cus i bought my switch overseas and came with a different adapter. Still a good bargain to post for rare cases like me!

  • Would you suggest this to be used for phones? Does it fast charge? :O

  • +1

Essentially $18 with the bonus $2 cashback from shop back!

    • how?

      • shopback is running a promo you need to activate on their app. Bonus $2 cashback on any purchase over $5

  • anyone know if this will charge a macbook pro?

    • +1

Yes my missus has a 2019 MacBook Pro and uses my switch charger

Thanks OP got one. I don't have a switch now but one day I think I would :).

  • looking for cheap second dock + charger

    • You can get a USB-C hub or dock adapter for travelling if needed.

The charger is usually the hardest thing to replace, since the dock + TV mode needs a 35w or 40w PD option (15v/2.6a support) which isn't common in the cheaper PD or USB-C chargers.

The USB-C switch dock is not proprietary, and you can get alternative ones with less potential to scratch the screen (sic)

      • Won't it risk bricking the Switch to dock on a non genuine Switch dock?

        • true , seem Nintendo also not use standard usb c specs for the dock.

  • Why buy this? Can't you use any adequate USB charger with a USB C cable

    • The original adaptor charges the switch much faster. 15V 2.6Amp 40 Watts.

  • No stock in Liverpool NSW :(

  • Thanks OP. Was finally able to grab one today at Plenty Valley Westfield

  • I really should have read the comments.
Now just realise I don't need it any time soon (maybe someday but not right now).
Might as well return it tomorrow.
