    Is this official?

Looks to be genuine Nintendo. Sold by Amazon so need to worry about knock-offs.

      • +12

I wouldn’t be sure about that. I had several knockoff products “sold and shipped by Amazon” when I lived in the US. Amazon’s sourcing isn’t great.

I’m sure this particular item is probably fine, and Amazon AU may be better than the US counterpart. But I certainly wouldn’t assume that just because it’s sold by Amazon it’s legit.

        • +2

Actually, I'm upvoting this as people need to be made aware that there are indeed knock off stuffs on Amazon AU as well such as the Windows and Office keys that were sold recently.

          • @meong: Except those were not sold by Amazon AU, it was a third party listing their stuff on Amazon AU.

          • @meong: Yep I have a pro controller for my switch that's a fake but it's near perfect in every way, box, instructions, actual controller if I didn't have a real one you wouldnt know. Only way is that it can't sync initially unless you connect via usb and even after its synced you can't turn the switch on by pressing the home button with the real one you can… So Yeh $50 fake and it works just fine… 3rd party seller in my situation though.

            • @scud70: Is this the only difference?
Does it have "thx2 allgamefans!" on the PCB?

The only reason I am asking I got Pro controller from Amazon AU and I believed it is genuine.
Now I am not so sure.

              • +1

@SickDmith: Mine was 3rd party seller the other one was from Amazon AU and that's original and no issues. I didn't open it to look at the pcb.
Everything on both work exactly the same, build quality looks identical with fake having a bit of a rattle compared to authentic one, but I know the fake won't sync when switch is asleep which then doesn't turn it on, the original syncs while switch is in sleep mode and switch turns on.. Does yours turn the switch on from sleep if you press home ?

It's amazing how close this thing is, I'd easily be able to sell it on with my switch and no one would know.

        • +1

That is why he said need to worry about….

          • @wtfnodeal: Yeah I was just replying to @ajmlr due to the downvote…

          • +2

@wtfnodeal: My fault, I misread it as “no need”, since there was no subject between “so” and “need”.

    • The release date and photo appear as it's genuine, I guess worst case is you buy it and return it if it's a knock-off.

      • +2

Exactly, free returns with Prime but if it is a knock off you can probably argue pretty easily for a free return

        • +1

Yeah just say it isn't as advertised and you can return it for free no questions asked!

        • +1

          Does prime give free return?

          • +1

            @OhNoUShiz: Sure does.

I have purchased an item, then purchased the same thing 3 days later because it was on sale, and returned the first item.

            • +1

@czechboi: Weird, i am a prime member and i still need to pay 7 bucks for returning via Australia post.

              • +1

@OhNoUShiz: Depends on the selection you make when returning.

If you choose "Item does not meet expectations" you will not get charged the return fee.

There was a time when people raved about the quality of official Nintendo and Apple MacBook USB C chargers… but I think now there’s plenty of other excellent third party chargers.

    • -1

Sadly I'm not sure that any hardware put out by Nintendo anymore is quality. The Switch would have to be one of the worst built consoles since the Xbox 360

      • Referring to joy-con drift? I'm unsure how widespread it is but Nintendo should have addressed and fixed the issue by now. I can't really fault anything else other than that.

        • +3

Joycon drift is horrible. 2 outta 4 of my joycons had it within 3 months, noy something you expect for $90 a pair ($45 each) controllers. And nintendo was hard assed about it and wanted to charge me before the whole scandal.

      • I've basically had to replace every joycon I've had. ETA: The SL/SR buttons stop working essentially stopping the joycons from being used sideways and only in pairs.

      • +1

The switch is my favourite console of this generation. You're not wrong at all.
        - Joycon drift
        - Shitty dpad on the pro controller
        - Bricked switches after firmware update 6.0.0 (using third party docs, because Nintendo didn't follow USB-C standards).
        - People's switches getting scratched by the official dock

This is nothing like the Nintendo of the past. All my old nintendo hardware is still working just fine, dating back to the N64.
        You're being down-voted by fanboys I guess.

    • +2

They were considered quality? Nintendo broke USB-C spec. It's a heap of crap both the console and charger from that perspective (eg: bricking docked units by using a 3rd party charger even though it's Nintendo's fault).

Great fun and I love my switch but the only reason I have genuine nintendo chargers is because I don't trust off-brands to be 100% compatible after Nintendo did this.

      • +3

FWIW, the prevailing theory is that bricking was caused by a lack of proper PD controller in dodgy docks.

        https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/ckaiiv/an_e…

It's (dodgy) third party docks causing bricking, not third party chargers. Third party chargers are absolutely fine to use with the Switch (so long as they are well-made and compliant with the USB-C spec).

You really don't need to use genuine Nintendo chargers, despite what Nintendo say!

        See www.SwitchChargers.com for more info.

        • +4

$20 for piece of mind of not bricking my Switch, I am happy to pay that.

        • +1

          Thanks.

          $20 is a no-brainer price though.

          • @justtoreply: & czechboi

            All good!

(FWIW, Xiaomi/ZMI 45W charger also cost around $20 too, and a bit less on sale. It does require an adapter to use in Australia, but it's more compact even with the adapter, and has more USB-C profiles as well!)

But, as you guys say, this is a great price for the official charger, and you should use whatever you're comfortable with! :)

      • +1

It was a lack of proper PD circuitry on third-party devices, exacerbated by a slightly non-standard connector on the dock (to allow the unit to smoothly dock and undock) that third-parties failed to copy correctly.

I haven’t seen any evidence Nintendo is to blame.

      • Yes I just watched a video about this! bS by nintendo

    • Don't know why I got negged so badly with comments around Joycon drift/etc… this was for the USB C charger which if I'm not mistaken, roughly when the Switch came out, there weren't that many USB C charger options especially for some foreign devices which people recommended the Nintendo USB C charger for.

  • +1

So, is this included in the switch when you buy?

    • +4

      Yeah it is.

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

You're thinking of the 3DS where the AC adapter is sold separately.

  • Third party chargers working well but do not work smooth on third party Dock. Also price will be more than this price.

Inc … I… what are people thinking. FireRunner and Richiie luv you LoL

  • This is good, shame I have about 3 already.

  • This is about the max they are worth. Thank goodness I jumped on Amazon, 2 for $24.95, ages ago = $12 after cashback.

  • This is a great deal for an extra ac adapter!

  • +1

Note that this adapter isn't great for anything but the Switch. It can only do 5V/1.5A (7.5W) and 15V/2.6A (39W) charging. If your phone or other device doesn't support 15V/2.6A (it most likely won't since it's out of USB-C PD spec) then it'll only charge at 7.5W like any other basic USB charger. For the Switch though, it's great since 39W is the max the Switch will take. I have two adapters: one for my dock and one for handheld mode.

    • +1

I've occasionally had problems even making it charge my phones. HTC10 and LG V30.

Yep, it's a totally crap adapter for anything but a Switch.

    • +1

Its great for travelling with a MacBook. It pulls the full 39W from it, is light, cheap, and has an integrated cable. We give them out to people who forget their power adapter at work.

  • Great price for a spare charger. My dock's charger is behind the tv unit and to get it out is a pain in the ass, well worth $20 IMHO

  • I mean…it's just an expensive USB C charger isn't it?? I've been charging my Switch lite on my $5 Officeworks phone charger. Should I not be doing that?

    • I charge mine using my chromebook charger but only off dock. I use the official charger with the dock as there have been reports that it can cause bricks.

    • Not really… its rated 45W. As a reference, 60W usually retails around $40-$60 so its quite good at this price.

My Huawei phone will not fast charge using QC 3.0 but shows up as Supercharging using this…

      • The Switch uses PD not QC, so your phone probably just doesn't support that

        • But I got a Huawei phone which doesn't have QC and has its own proprietary Supercharge and somehow works with this USB PD.

          • @meong: Can be compatible with both (most mainstream Androids workt with QC and PD). Your phone should be on this list

            • @chossenger: My phone is not compatible with QC 3.0.

              • @meong: Sorry, I was a little unclear, I was saying other phones would be, as yours is compatible with both Supercharge and USB PD

  • I went to find this at an op shop i saw it at, someone had already bought it :( woulda been $2

Looks like a price match to Amazon.
