Telstra Prepaid 12 Month SIM $250 (150GB Data, Unlimited Calls/Text, Intl Calls to 20 Countries) @ Telstra

880

Telstra just dropped the price of the $300 12 month expiry prepaid sim to $250.

This might be a good deal for those that missed the boost deal.

The $150 6 month expiry prepaid sim has also been dropped to $100.

        on their website.

  • Wondering if this will work as a renewal for those that got the last 1 year deal. My credit expires at the end of Jan 2020, will this deal work for me?
    Thanks

I don't think so as this is a SIM kit not a recharge but you may be able to get a recharge for this value on live chat, maybe?

Seems renewal is still at $300 for 12 months.

      • Thanks - looks like I will port to Aldi $5 and back in to the starter pack then.
Hopefully the SIM cards wont expire before Aug 2020

        • I am with Aldi right now…suspect they might do something to their plans. Will wait

  • Can I use this in a tablet which has cellular capability? I just want it for the data.

    • @ Cap N Yes you can!! It also has a generous free international calls, so you may want to look at the country inclusions if you're interested, you would be able to use the tablet to make a call, but you may want to use the loudspeaker as it would be uncomfortable and ridiculous looking to hold it to your ear like a phone.

    • Get 15 bucks Telstra, 5 gigs along peace of mind.

waiting for someone who able to convince Telstra chat rep for $200 deal.

    • I tried a few weeks ago, they denied me for a decent 30min attempt.
I got pissed off, ended up getting the Boost one instead. Mildly regret it, due to having the network change.
The difference between 150GBs and 240GBs doesn't seem that big for me (I average around 5-15GB usage anyway).

      • i forgot to mention; not only that folks got it for $200 but also 200 GB data

  • So what's the BAD points about this deal compared to other sim plans?

    • +4

It costs more and has less data.

  • Argh.. just paid for 2 x $300 a week ago :(

  • What was the Boost plan the description was talking about?

These plans are a great for people that want access to AFL/NFL live footy app which is included in the price and it's free data. You also get access to Telstra Air, which for me is great when you go on holidays/camping, particularly like a big road trip around Oz. You park your car near a Telstra Air phonebooth, start downloading all your favourite movies/shows/Youtube videos/music or upload your photos videos to the cloud, then go to a cafe, do shopping whatever then come back to your car to discover (your laptop/tablet has been stolen😪😥) that you've saved GB's data by using Telstra Air. BTW the speeds at Telstra Air hotspots vary dramatically, I've had 200mbps download speed outside a Telstra shop. But at a country town Telstra Air phonebooth hotspot I usually get a minimum 15mbps download speeds, often a lot faster than this speed around 30mbps!!

    • Is Telstra Air data taken from your data allowance?

      • Telstra Air is free WiFi for customers, so no it should not.

      • It's free, for all SIM plans and prepaids over $30p.m on the Telstra (not Boost) network. I don't believe there is a data limit either.
You activate it within an app. Once you have done this then you can use a Windows (and I'm assuming Apple) laptop to access Telstra Air.
It's very handy. So whenever you see "Telstra Air" in your list of nearby WIFI hotspots you can use any device to access it.
Don't forget free football also. There's nothing better than being in beautiful and remote camp spot, no-one for mile surrounded by nature and I'm yelling and cheering at my phone, makes my wife real mad though!!

    • That was quite a ride.

Cmon Telstra make it $200 again!!

  • Haven't been on prepaid for like 15 years. So this is a SIM + new number kit?

    • yes but you can bring your number to telstra.

  • Is this prepaid services from Telstra clearly better than Boost?

    • +1

They are supposed to be exactly same.

    • Same network and access to VoWiFi and VoLTE.

  • Im already with Telstra, but only have 1 sim slot.

Can this be used to stack Data onto my existing SIM?

  • I'm off-contract with Telstra, can I move to this or will I have to port out and in again?

    • yes you can move from postpaid to prepaid without a new sim card.

    • you'll have to port out.

Rookie question but would this include 5g ? Or is that post paid only?

Telstra price is approaching reality. Someone there woke up.

  • Just buy 2x sim cards, one to activate now, the other to activate after a quick port to another provider in 6 months. Assuming these cards can be activated within a year of purchase. Can anyone confirm this?

  • I reckon 2 x 6 month kits works out quite well if you're fine with 10GB data per month and if you're able to port out and back in to activate the second sim kit after the first expires.

With 2 x 6 month plans you get 120GB data so 30GB less than the 12 month plan but it works out to be $200 for the year with other inclusions being almost the same. Another thing is as per the CIS this should cover you for an extra week (186 + 186 = 372 days vs 365 days).

The biggest caveat being having to port out in between since there will be some extra cost associated with that unless you're able to find a free sim or a sim with a cash back offer during the initial 6 months.

    • Lyca has a free sim. Thanks for this.

    • Just had online chat with them - they advised the kits expire after 1 month of no activation.

Has anyone else had this same advice from Telstra? Can anybody confirm?

Cause on the other 6 month thread it says some people are getting sims that expire in 2022

  • Thanks OP. Would recommend mentioning the 6 month plan in Post title. For someone like me who is interested in the 6 month instead of 12 months.

  • As there is no cashback, would recommend buying directly from telstra site as I faced issues while buying from cashrewards. Amount debited from cc but no purchase done. Although the amount is reflected back, but you might lose buying if it goes out of stock
