Sony LF-S50G Smart Speaker with Google Assistant $85 (was $138) In-Store @ Officeworks

310

Just picked up one of these from my local store. They only had 2 in stock. It's not listed on the website. The tag says they were originally $138, but I'm sure they were more than that.

  • How is the sound for that?
    Anyone have experience?

    Thanks

    • First impression is that the sound quality is better than my Google Home (not Mini).

Sound is clearer than Google Home, but Bass is lacking.
Has illuminated clock and you can change brightness, which is useful. Brightness is also automatically adjusted with Nightmode.
The microphone seems a bit weaker than Google Home, it's harder to pick up my voice from 5m away compared to Google Home.
The software is kinda bad. For some reason this occasionally "drop out" from Google Home App i.e Google Home doesn't recognise it on the same network, despite I'm still able to give command to it to play music etc. This does not happen to any of my Google speaker/display. Problem fixes itself in 5 mins or so, still unsure why.
      No equalizer.
All in all I put it in my bedroom due to the clock. Much more useful than Lenovo Smart Clock nor Google Home (unless you want photo frame) as a smart clock/speaker.

      • Yep same. Using it as bedside clock.

      • For me I think the mic is better than Google home. Especially when music is on. Clock is definitely a super plus for me.

Try looking for the cache page when big W had it for $49 to price match. Works for me.

Recommend getting this for $49 down from I think $199 instead Amazon Echo 2nd Gen if you aren't that fazed Alexa vs Google Home. Really awesome speakers

Also available for same price at The Good Guys. I picked up two of those this week plus 2 Amazon Echo Spots ($49 down from $169).

The issue is that if you already have Google Smart Speakers/Displays then you don't want Echo at all, because they can't integrate with each other.

      • That's a valid point you raise +1

Thanks but doesn't work for me as i already have Google speakers.

    • Do you use the two speakers together? Or are they in different rooms.
      Thanks

    • How is the sound of amazon echo??

      Thanks
